I've had breast pain recently, mostly in one but definitely across both. Like others, they said breast pain alone isn't usually a sign for cancer. Said may be hormonal (I did have a breast check and no lumps were found). I was told to take evening primrose oil.
However I am also having chest soreness and hurts when I lift up so I'm wondering if it's muscle related. Doctors aren't overly helpful tbh'

I have this pain when lifting things, or especially when I’m bending over and the weight of my (small) breast is pulling down as well but the duty Dr I saw this morning said he doesn’t believe it’s muscles and thinks it’s all in the breast tissue.

has anyone been told how much evening primrose oil to take? The GP I saw today (after duty Dr, I’ve been passed around to a few people as the duty Dr said this was out of his comfort zone) said to take it but she didn’t say how much.

@abdnhiker my doctor just said take one 1000mg capsule a day - though he did just google the usual dosage 😂 I got a 30 day supply from the pharmacy, one capsule a day. Will see how I get on - feels more tissue/muscle than hormonal to me but will see

The hospital is sending me to a breast clinic (which hopefully won’t take too long but even going private it may be over a week wait) as yes, they think this is hormonal too. Thanks for the feedback and hopefully my pain follows the pattern everyone here has experienced and starts to go down soon. They did say that the trauma of the surgery could have really impacted my hormones and it is likely just a temporary thing so fingers crossed.

Hope everything goes well for you I'm sure it'll be a simple explanation 🙂

Thanks! Back from the breast clinic and it is just hormonal pain that the consultant attributed to the stress on my body from the surgery. It’s a relief to know I don’t need to worry about it.

@abdnhiker that is great news! Did they perform any tests on you at the clinic out of interest? Felt my pain come back again so might push to get seen.

I had a mammogram and an ultrasound to check it out - I think it’s worth pushing, they were very supportive when I was in and there was no hint of suggestion that I shouldn’t have bothered, exactly the opposite, they thought is was needing checked.

@abdnhiker that's great they did such a thorough check!! . I've managed to get into private clinic late afternoon. How old are you do you mind me asking? I'm 32, will they still offer a mammogram?

redtrain123 · 12/09/2024 08:27

I always wait a couple of weeks, change bra, go bra-less (if at home, or got thick winter coat on) and see if it subsides. If not, visit to gp.

I actually saw a gp about this week and have a referral, but have had bc before.

(saw gp on Tuesday and yesterday got phone call for appt next week!)

I’m 47 but I don’t think age came into it in terms of the mammogram. Everyone was absolutely lovely last night - very much use to women feeling slightly anxious! Good luck and hoping it goes well for you.

My consultant told me last night to not go bra-less ever, to wear the most supportive bra I have at all times even in bed. Not saying your approach isn’t right for you, but just wanted to say I’ve been told something different and it might depend on the type of cause of the pain for individuals.

I’m small busted don’t need much support, but I’ll ask at my next appointment.

@tiredmum35 I believe mammograms aren’t do reliable in younger women (20s) so they may offer you an ultrasound as well as mammogram.

Breast appointments are often one stop shops - consultant, scans, consultants (for result) so be prepared for this. Perfectly normal. I was told to allow an hour plus.

tiredmum35 · 12/09/2024 12:09

Thank you. Yes they told me to allow an hour. Getting nervous now!

Me too, A cups here so I’ve a lack of supportive sports bras to wear! (I can normally run in bras listed as medium support). But again, it may be dependent on lots of different things what the advice is.

Fingers crossed for you, I was very nervous too and I could tell another woman who was waiting was similarly anxious.
