For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Isn't it? What is your favourite vegetable then?

[fascinating emoticon]

Boco · 21/04/2008 21:04

Ummmm.

Avocado.

But is that a fruit?
I eat it as a vegetable, regardless of it's status, so I'd say avocado. I love them.

No.2 is asparagus.

And thirdly is artichokes.

I only eat vegetables beginning with the letter A.

S1ur · 21/04/2008 21:06

Yes YES I love avocados too!

I realise that is not a customary way to interupt a conversation usually.

S1ur · 21/04/2008 21:09

Have I scared you away with my avocado passion?

Boco · 21/04/2008 21:12

No no, I for one am basking in it.

S1ur · 21/04/2008 21:13

Have you tried the avodaco of desire?
I also make excuses to have salad that features avocados heavily.

Boco · 21/04/2008 21:14

My hair is so thick that i just snapped my comb trying to comb it through, so i carried on combing with half a comb, and three of the little prongs pinged out. I'm going to have it cut off, it's becoming dangerous.

Boco · 21/04/2008 21:17

mmmmm. Have you tried Nigella's Roquamole? Sometimes I like to just look at the picture.

S1ur · 21/04/2008 21:18

Possibly too much f&v has made your hair luscious and unwieldly. Desist and eat more chips.

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2008 21:26

they are very variable though aren't they? I'm not that keen. Also I used to mash them up with banana for babies, and now the thought of that makes me feel very queasy. Ditto - fruit tea from when I was pregnant.

I like a parsnip you know. They are very nice. And I am VERY fond of cabbage.

BBBee · 21/04/2008 21:28

boco you haridan - use that avocado as conditioner.

ohh - favourite fruits and vegetables lovely.

I like a pineapple too, but it does do that ripping up the inside of your mouth thing. Blood oranges are a bit vile to look at. I had some fresh figs last week and they were lovely and aromatic, but if you had them too often would be sick of them - a bit like, um, baileys.

It has to be a strawberry doesn't it really. If you really think about it.

I also like the way you can be pleasently surprised by a banana or a braeburn when they are truely on from.

Vegetables - um, beetroot is the one I truely desire and have an urge to buy. It will dictate which supermarket I go to. I like cucumber for it is consistent and reliable. But onions are the most essentail.

I HATE lychees and celery.

Do the hating too - I craqve the negative vibes.

BBBee · 21/04/2008 21:29

i understand about the avocado - they can do that sudden manking thing - like bananas can.

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2008 21:31

YES. I HATE celery too. I don't see the point of it, and I don't like how it gets thready and sticks in your teeth.

I also HATE (I am capitalizing for you Bee, so you can feel my fury) powdery and furry apples. And erm, I'll think of something in a minute. I am very greedy and tend to eat everything.

Oh I know what else I love - Rhubarb. And gooseberries.

Kale is a drag.

Boco · 21/04/2008 21:34

Yes a black avocado is a terrible thing.

Lychees are delicious and wonderful.

Parsnips are ok if roasted and crunchy, but if undercooked they're vile.

Strawberries are pretty good. I like blueberries but they've got to have slight crunch and not have got to the moldy sock stage.

Cabbage is alright if cooked with nice flavours and not overboiled. I wouldn't rank it as a favourite though.

Yes, pineapple can be brutal on the roof of the mouth.

Boco · 21/04/2008 21:36

Pears. They're a hit or miss aren't they. Often a pear will be unripe and then suddenly powdery and shrivelled. Bit cunting really. A big juicy ripe lovely pear is a rare treat.

This is a bit weird isn't it, us all standing around talking about fruit and veg, on the veg thread. Whatevernext.

zippitippitoes · 21/04/2008 21:40

actually avocados can cunt with the best of them cant they...in a stand off i wouldnt like to bet between an avocado and a mango

ior even a tomato would stand a good chance depending

bero hope you are feeling a bit better

cheers for the exdp bit

i have some suggestions for immune disorders and depression as i have /had/have/had both

i go for vit c in mega doses

i put my bets on taking supplements as well as improving diet

and for depression i think exercise is very good and avoiding stress but doing stuff that is exciting

BBBee · 21/04/2008 21:40

are yes pears are either on the money and beautiful or horrid and woody.

I so hate the wooly fruit. I took apples back to marks and spencers for being wooly and the lady did a but I was truely enraged.

wooly = compost

y

you know i try hard but i can;t really get very very excited about vegetables - there is always an element of duty. Even with beetroot.

zippitippitoes · 21/04/2008 21:41

lol at suden bizarre discussion of fruit and veg

S1ur · 21/04/2008 21:42

Yes avocados need to be perfect to be erm, perfect.

I loathe parsnips, bad experience as a child mistaking school dinner parsnips for chips and being made to eat THEM ALL.

Celery is pointless and annoying, I'm partial to aubergine and courgette.

I am more of a fruit person really. Pretty much any fruit is popular with me. Cherries may be the food of goddesses.

BBBee · 21/04/2008 21:42

oh hello look, my computer has done a mad thing. I am not mad oh no.

My son told me a good joke.

One cow asked the other cow if he was worried about mad cow disease, he replied 'why should i be worried, i'm a helicopter.'

BBBee · 21/04/2008 21:44

OMG cooked celery VILE!

lullabyloo · 21/04/2008 21:46

lychees are orgasmic...I eat them by the punnet
figs too

strawberries if they smell heavenly and are not bobbly, watery & seedy
ditto raspberries
pomegranates...mmmmm...but fiddly blighters

blueberries if slightly tart & not squishy
really ripe gooseberries
plums from grandma's tree..the golden kind

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2008 21:46

Actually I truly believe the leek to be very over rated. [controversial]
