Heart problems/abortion

Hey everyone.
i am currently suffering from some type of cardiovascular symptoms, chest pressure, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat/palpitations, feeling abit lightheaded and headaches every now and then, i had an abortion a few weeks ago and was wondering if the medication could be the cause of this? I have always suffered with palpitations they were rare but there and since taking the abortion medication, things in the heart department have ramped up, the doctors gave me omeprazole then now they’re saying i have asthma and that my heart would be last on the list despite having a history of family heart problems. I do have health anxiety and have done since i got pregnant last year and since giving birth to my son 8 months ago (hence the abortion recently) i just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything like this before, i’m only 32 and have lost 2 stone, i’m scared to eat properly, i’m sometimes scared to sleep and have cried non stop since this all started because i’m scared im going to drop dead, i’ve been told other problems in the body can cause the heart to do whatever but im struggling to find cause how i can go from being alright to now whatevers going on.. any advice would be welcome xx

Sounds like panic attacks triggered by the abortion to me. Have you had any counselling since the abortion? It can affect us in all sorts of ways even if we made the right decision it isn't easy.

Hi, i did suffer quite abit with panic attacks during my pregnancy as i had a cancer scare and the pregnancy put so much pressure on me to the point i was breathless all the time and my heart was constantly racing, also the gps during my pregnancy were constantly changing their minds on what to do with me (as my baby was big) then my baby was born and i was scared of germs etc it was awful and I did wander if it was related to that and now im having physical symptoms for being stressed for so long and as for the abortion it was the right decision for me as i would not have mentally coped and no i haven’t been to any counselling i might look into it xx

I'm so sorry your not better. Are your symptoms consistent or got better? I'm just about to do the same with echocardiogram and ecg! I've been told eptopic heartbeat but want some answers!

CapitanSandy · 27/08/2024 17:38

Have you had blood tests OP? anemia after blood loss can cause palpitations

jhaust811 · 27/08/2024 20:42

Yes they did blood tests but that was for blood clots and some protein. I think I will be heading back to doctors as doesn't seem to be getting better

Hello, my symptoms are very irregular, today i have very mild chest pain and no arm pain etc but the doctors have prescribed me propranolol because they think i have health anxiety and ive taken one today and its made my heart palpitations worse like literally every 2 seconds its jumping out my chest. Doctors don’t want to seem to help anymore, i understand the whole concept of anxiety etc but im anxious now because i know somethings going on, you don’t just randomly start having chest pain arm
pain neck pain palpitations out of nowhere!

I can not believe how similar your story is I went to the doctors now on 10mg of propondal. I actually feel better today still have mild chest ache but no hand pain or feeling of sickness. I thought it was heart attack symptoms. Similar to you they said eptopic heart beats and anxiety brings it on. One doctor did say hormonal changes from abortion could take 4 weeks to calm down. Just can't keep feeling like this 😪

Hello i had blood tests maybe in may or june which showed i wasn’t low on anything, i also took some multivitamins with iron in as i was so run down and kept catching alot of illnesses which required antibiotics.. its ever since then i’ve had these problems, my last illness was bacterial tonsillitis and halfway through the course of antibiotics is when i was sent to hospital with chest pain and left arm pain

Oh bless you its horrible isn’t it. I struggle to sleep now and even eat because of how stressful this has all been for me, i am debating now on paying privately for a chest xray to make sure there is nothing going on in my chest to cause shortness of breath, i have also started getting headaches every day which i am booked in to the opticians just to be doubly sure nothing is going on behind the scenes, i’m so scared that every day is my last.

I had similar symptoms, though rather more vague (and no termination) for a couple of months. They turned out to be a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot on my lung.

If your doctors haven't considered that then do go back and ask about it. It's a very serious condition that can be fatal - though easily treated with blood thinners.

Thankyou i will! I just wish they would listen to me, everytime i go they look at me like im looney and just tell me to take some anxiety meds.. you’d think after the 4th visit they would do some kind of chest xray to look deeper into things, its sad but i don’t think doctors want to help anymore.

The test that flagged it in my case was D-dimer.
Pretty much everything else was normal but my D-Dimer was through the roof. Good luck, @fedupmum2023

And watch Chrissie's Story

It seems to be not uncommon for PE to present as anxiety and so not be diagnosed immediately.

@fedupmum2023 how are you now? Did you ask about a PE?

Hello, i am slowly getting better chest pain is not really there anymore but the pressure and shortness of breath is still there, i asked about PE but again because I'm not showing typical symptoms they are reluctant to send me for any tests and because how long i’ve had these other symptoms they said i would of been in hospital a long time ago. I have put a complaint into PALS and the manager of the doctors because this isn’t on, no-one develops symptoms out of nowhere for nothing! And as for my anxiety, i have anxiety because no-one is listening to me!

Have they ruled out a blood clot?

Have they ruled out a blood clot?

They haven’t tested for one because i am
not showing typical symptoms of one, they said if i was coughing alot and bringing up blood and phlegm then they would look into it.
