Niiiiice aaaaarse

meep · 13/04/2008 20:56

be careful - spin can be addictive!

Spidermama · 13/04/2008 20:56

I went to one. I hated it. I thought I was going to die.

Psychomum5 · 13/04/2008 20:57

I tried spinning once.......and couldn't walk again after let alone sit down....

never went again, but then I am a wimp for excercise that hurts.

MadameCh0let · 13/04/2008 20:57

Ditto spidermama. It was really a near death experience. I saw lights, tunnels..

meep · 13/04/2008 20:58

I used to go about 5 times a week - sometimes twice in one day! that was pre-baby cos you wouldn't think it to look at me now !

OverMyDeadBody · 13/04/2008 21:02

It is very adictive, and if you do it regularly will give you a great arse!

I still prefer getting out on the road on a bike, but it does the same thing ultimately! Someone once said I have an arse of steel from all the cycling

Keep going, persevere through the pain and you will be hooked!

DrNortherner · 13/04/2008 21:05

Arse of steel - am liking teh sound of that.

There is another class tomorrow, am tempted....

I really enjoyed my classes until the standing and hover position sparked osteoarthritis in my only 'good' knee.

I stupidly thought that as cycling was deemed ok for old creaky gimmers like me, spin would be too. Be warned, if your knees creak, do not spin, you may not regret it now but you will if you have to spend several weeks with utter, inescapable pain.

Now I listen to the spin class from the safety of the weaklings weights section of the gym....they were spinning to 'house of fun' by madness yesterday. Bastards.

Psychomum5 · 13/04/2008 21:16

one thing I will add as advice, take a seat padder.

you will need it!!!! (arse of steel maybe, but will not look pretty with bruises and blisters from the rock hard seat!)

OverMyDeadBody · 13/04/2008 21:18

Go tomorrow DN, go go go!

I buggered my knees too, running too much, and stopped spinning, but still cycle. I guess the trick is to remember to just stop if your knees are hurting too much.

I have begun to realise the sport seriously f*cks your body up and leaves you more prone to aches and pains and injury. Not that it stops me

OverMyDeadBody · 13/04/2008 21:19

Yes, listen to Psycho! That or padded cycling shorts, which I prefer to sanitary towels seat pads. Once you have the said arse of steal you can do away with it however!

luckily they dont do it at my gym

it looks awful

i wouldnt be able to breathe

WallOfSilence · 13/04/2008 21:23

I love spin!!

In fact my sister is a qualified instructor & teaches 8 classes a week She's fit!!

She takes 2 1 hour classes 4 night a week! one at 7pm-8pm then one from 8.15-9.15!!

It doesn't wear her out it makes her hyper..she says it's cheaper than drugs!

It deffo works, I went to 2 classes a week for a month with no other exercise & sensible eating & I lost on average 3lb a week. I did it to lose weight, others do it because they love the exercise.

I am always recommending spin to anyone I meet!!!

it's great

I also think it depends on the music they play. There's a fella who takes my sis class if she has something on & I hate his music, it's just thud thud thud.... sis has tunes you can sing along to! My favourite is The Irish Rover and The Fields of Athenry.. all speeded up to the right beats per minute.. it's great!! They're fab to power walk to too

wtf is spinning????

kittywise · 13/04/2008 21:56

but don't cycling exercises also give you bulky thighs?

I once went out with a bloke who was really into cycling and he had froggy legs! Then I noticed that all serious cyclists have froggy legs

DrNortherner · 14/04/2008 11:13

intro to spinning - for pelvic

BeauLocks · 14/04/2008 11:23

I used to go spinning a lot. IIRC I went for about 3 years. I loved what it did for me (levels of fitness, helped with running and toning up) but I don't think I ever actually enjoyed the class while I was there!

spub · 14/04/2008 12:07

Did my first class on Saturday morning. My thighs feel like they have lead weights strapped to them and standing up and sitting down hurt like something very fecking hurty.
Can't wait to go back next week.
Glad it's addictive as I really need to burn my belly off via intensive cardio.
Any other tips aside from the arse padding?

My sister goes about 3 times a week. I went once and nearly had a heart attack. She is a size 8, I am nudging a 14 If you can keep it up, go for it. Great arse shrinking exercise!
