Any Dr’s about? What are the chances that this ISN’T broken?😞

On holiday in Turkey - slipped on a boat yesterday and this is now my ankle.

Can bear weight (hugely painful) and have movement so thought just bad sprain but it’s got considerably bigger and bluer overnight.

It’s 40 degrees here and I have 5 days left, not being able to go in the pool will be torture!! 😩

Surely your DP would prefer you to prioritise your health? How does going to hospital ruin his day, you can go in a cab by yourself surely?

He absolutely would prefer that, and, although I could go alone he would never let me. He’s a good egg and is checking out the nearest hospital and the insurance details as we speak!

Let us know how you get on OP, thinking of you

It’s broken and I need an operation today. So that sucks!

Alwaystired2023 · 11/07/2024 10:34

Fuck fuck sorry OP :( glad you went to get checked but what an awful outcome, will be thinking of you hoping it all goes smoothly and you can get back to the hotel to recoup in the sun

BlossomToLeaves · 11/07/2024 10:38

Sorry to hear that. I'm glad you can get the operation straight away, though!! When I had a fracture needing surgery (NHS), I ended up waiting 2 weeks for it because they had no space and then it kept being put off, and it was almost too late by the time I had it done, as it was ideally supposed to be less than 3 days. (It was arm though rather than ankle, which probably makes a difference). But sooner is best, so good luck for today.

Chelsea26 · 11/07/2024 10:49

Yes @BlossomToLeaves I broke my wrist a few years ago and had the same thing.

We’re just waiting now for my insurance to approve the surgery and I will be taken up to a room.

@Alwaystired2023 They've said Op this evening, out of hospital tomorrow and fit to fly on Monday as planned. Luckily the hotel we’re at has sun lounger service!

Oh bollocks @Chelsea26 sorry to hear that. Hope all goes well Flowers

Incakewetrust · 11/07/2024 10:58

Sorry to hear it's broken! As soon as you're able, go tell the hotel dr she should probably get a job in Maccies.

MulberryBushRoundabout · 11/07/2024 10:58

Sorry to hear that OP, what a nightmare! But much less of a nightmare to deal with now than it would have been leaving it to get worse.

Jewelanemone · 11/07/2024 11:01

So sorry this has happened on your holiday, but you'll get priority boarding on your flight home! One has to look for the silver linings sometimes! Hope you're fit and well again soon.

TimeandMotion · 11/07/2024 11:01

Oh wow. Great that you got it checked, sounds like the hospital is a good one.

That doc is going to be a bit red-faced when you hobble back in to the hotel with your cast.

Good luck.

MonsteraMama · 11/07/2024 11:02

That's rubbish OP I am sorry, but aren't you glad you went? Imagine the damage you could have done hobbling about on it for days.

Wishing you a speedy operation and recovery, and I hope you still get to enjoy some sunshine before you leave 💐

Chelsea26 · 11/07/2024 11:41

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.

Yes I don’t know if I’m looking forward to going back to the hotel or not. She’s going to be a bit 😳 isn’t she?

Ineffable23 · 11/07/2024 11:49

Oh flip OP, I'm really glad you went to the hospital. What a total pain.

Remember to book assistance through the airports - we did when my mum had broken her ankle and they were super helpful and super efficient.

Wishitsnows · 11/07/2024 11:49

That really sucks to have happened on holiday but at least you will get good medical and no ridiculous waiting times if it were NHS. Lucky you ignored random hotel Dr. Plenty of people walk when they’ve broken bones surprised a Dr does not know this.

Cuppateatea · 11/07/2024 11:51

Oh no OP!
Hope all goes well and you get back on that sun lounger for a few cocktails before you go home! Or maybe mocktails if you’re on pain meds 🍹 🍸

whinginglittlefucker · 11/07/2024 13:38

Hi when I broke my ankle I could wiggle my toes but I knew it was broken. I had no movement in the actual ankle joint. At A&E on visual examination they optimistically though it might be soft tissue damage and asked me to try to weight bear which there was impossible +++bX ray showed one fracture, CT scan showed further two. Can you get to a hospital - if it's broken it needs to be immobilised so it doesn't displace.

whinginglittlefucker · 11/07/2024 13:41

Aw good luck with the surgery op. There's a brilliant Facebook broken ankle group.

longtompot · 11/07/2024 15:07

Chelsea26 · 11/07/2024 10:30

It’s broken and I need an operation today. So that sucks!

Oh my! Hope it goes well. I'd be inclined to say something to that dr at the hotel, maybe along the lines of don't diagnose people without having all the information.

MounjaroUser · 11/07/2024 15:10

I hope your operation goes well, OP. I think that woman might have been an "MN doctor" rather than a real one.

Chelsea26 · 11/07/2024 17:15

Thanks for all your messages

No surgery today now - fucking incompetent insurance company took too long to authorise it so now I have to stay in hospital overnight and go down in the morning. So annoying.

😡

Bless you OP.

Hope the op goes well x

Justhereforaibu1 · 11/07/2024 17:22

Sorry to hear this OP. Hope the surgery goes ahead tomorrow and you get some sleep

Ineffable23 · 11/07/2024 17:28

Oh no, what a total pain. I hope it goes okay overnight and tomorrow. Have you been able to manage okay in English (unless you speak Turkish)?
