Any Dr’s about? What are the chances that this ISN’T broken?😞

On holiday in Turkey - slipped on a boat yesterday and this is now my ankle.

Can bear weight (hugely painful) and have movement so thought just bad sprain but it’s got considerably bigger and bluer overnight.

It’s 40 degrees here and I have 5 days left, not being able to go in the pool will be torture!! 😩

It’s broken and I need an operation today. So that sucks!

Oh no you poor thing 😩 glad you got it looked at and didn't listen to the random doctor/hotel guest! I'm not a doctor but even I know you can't tell if it's broken without an xray! Wishing you a speedy recovery!💐

MassiveOvaryaction · 14/07/2024 15:32

I can think of worse places to sit and nurse a broken limb but it's a shame your holiday ended up like this! Hope recovery isn't too painful Flowers

Whithersoever · 14/07/2024 15:42

On the 11th, at just gone 9am, your DH was looking up hospitals, and by 10.30am (unless I've misunderstood) you had had an xray and knew you needed an operation. That's incredible - if this had been in the UK you could have waited all day to get to that stage.

Mend well OP 💐

Chelsea26 · 14/07/2024 17:41

@Whithersoever yes - and at least half of that time was spent filling in forms about insurance before I went in! In the hospital it was straight into Dr’s room, 2 min glance at ankle, wheeled round and straight into x-ray, out of x-ray, back to doctor’s room and they were up on the screen on the wall! I reckon less than 10 mins in all!

Lovely view OP, and I'm referring to the wine.

@Nightowl1234
I live in Europe and my DS broke his leg recently. Within 30 mins, he had been seen by the triage nurse, admitted, x-rayed and was waiting for a cast to be fitted. There was a delay then, as an emergency came in and staff were diverted but he was still back home within 3 hours.

We pay for our medical treatment, but it is exceptional.

cringedqueen · 15/07/2024 05:49

I hope that the flight home today is uneventful OP! Rest well

Thanks - good to know! That does sound exceptional. Hope your DS is recovering

@Chelsea26 hope you are feeling better OP. Being cheeky, would you mind DMing me the name of the hotel, it looks gorgeous! Thank you. Good luck with the journey home.

Loubelle70 · 15/07/2024 08:22

My ankle looked same. Took 6 month to feel ish ok. I waited thinking only a sprain. Had xray ..nothing. symptom's persisted for months. Had scan .... Hairline fractures and soft tissue damage. Xrays dont show everything. I now have mobility issues because wasnt treated promptly. Get it seen to

Not in UK. We've been through emergency in that time so I wouldn't disbelieve on that alone, doctor, x-ray, told surgery needed. its fairly clear sometimes, and put into ambulance for transfer to a bigger hospital with appropriate specialists. That was pobably an hour. There was quite a wait once we hit the big hospital as needed specialists were already in another surgery so many hours later before we saw the specialist, but the assessment bit was quick.

So sorry this has happened on your holiday, but you'll get priority boarding on your flight home! One has to look for the silver linings sometimes! Hope you're fit and well again soon.

Edited

Don't count on it! I once arrived for an ultra long haul flight with a broken ankle, DVT and on crutches. I'm also gold in their frequent flyer programme.
I got pulled aside for additional security screening before boarding meaning I needed to walk an extra 10 minutes.
Because of the added screening I missed frequent flyer priority boarding and at the gate they moved my seat from an aisle to a window which was impossible for me to get up from so I could do my every 45 minute walk to manage the DVT. As I was one of the last in they couldn't do anything to move my seat back which I noticed they had given to a child.
Everything that made my life harder they bloody did!

sashh · 16/07/2024 04:53

@deviantfeline if you are not mobile they can't have you in an aisle seat for take off and landing.

They also can't put you in the emergency exit row.

If there is an emergency those of us with disabilities (permanent or temporary) are the last to get off.

Finally back in Blighty and if anyone is still interested I thought you might like to hear of our journey home…

After spending 5 hours yesterday morning on the phone to the assistance company and BA trying to sort out who was doing what and the assistance company doing absolutely nothing whatsoever. I came down to reception and my leg blew up like a balloon so we had to go back to the hospital to check for a blood clot. One bit of good news, not a blood clot, an infection. Holiday in Turkey so only one pharmacy open. Finally get the antibiotics and back to the hotel just in time for transfer.
Get to the airport, finally find the wheelchair guy and check in. All fine, go to lounge. Half an hour before plane is due to take off (22:00) cancelled. 😞
Faster finger first DP books four seats on an easy jet flight at 04:30. Go back through passport control, get our luggage and have 3.5 hours to wait landside on the most uncomfortable benches known to man for check in to open.

Check in to sleezy jet, get taken through to airside and immediately told of a 2.5 hour delay on that flight.

Literally just landed in Gatwick (wrong terminal for car) 9 hours after we should have!

Going chalk this up as the worst holiday I’ve ever had! DP has been magnificent though and we’ve managed to laugh through it all. Can’t wait to get home and have a nice cup of tea

Glad you’re home safely! It’s good to be able to laugh at these adversities and your DP sounds solid. Enjoy your cuppa.

Chelsea26, you rock, girl! What an incredible attitude you've got there. Hope your recovery is now swift and non eventful.

Maybe Skegvegas next year?!

Glad you’re home. What original airline were you flying? If it was an EU or UK one you might be able to get fixed compensation for the cancellation, depending on the reason. They would have given you info about claiming at the time as it’s a legal requirement. But if it was Turkish or another non-EU or non UK one then no compensation on journeys into the UK.

ImPunbelievable · 16/07/2024 11:59

Seriously? Have you bothered to read the thread? I'm recovering from a break at 11 weeks and was able to weight bear enough on the day it happened with pain and discomfort walking between areas at the UK hospital even after it was diagnosed. It was only after the plaster was applied I couldn't walk on it as wasn't able to.
