Dd14 has had a headache and temperature (spiking up to 39.6) and it's now day 4 and no sign of let-up. GP just said a "flu-like illness" Hmm Short of keeping on top of calpol/ nurofen I don't know what else to do but she's only had two weetabix and a fromage frais in four days.

Keep checking that she’s weeing and encourage fluids/ice lollies etc.

Andwegoroundagain · 23/06/2024 07:11

Covid. My DS has similar and then lost taste.

34and3 · 23/06/2024 07:16

Yep weeing fine and drinking. Nurofen has bought her temp down this morning but she's dripping in sweat still

There's a hell of a lot of covid around. And also a vicious cold that lasts about 10 days no fever but sore throat and absolutely streaming nose. Do a test if Covid matters to you. We are surrounded by Covid and had various of the above but tested negative, which I was surprised by. It didn't feel like a normal cold.

My 10 Month old has got this, she's had it for over a week ☹️. It's horrendous, there's nothing we can do other than Calpol and Neureofen. The cough is frightening!

Makinglists · 23/06/2024 07:20

Covid - I've had the same symptoms this week. Spiking high temps/headache that painkillers only take the edge off. DH and DS tested+ (we had some old ones lurking) so I'm assuming I have it. I rarely get viruses so this has knocked me out.

34and3 · 23/06/2024 08:09

Not tested for covid in years. I'll try and buy some tests

I came to see if anyone was posting about anything like this. I have some awful virus currently too. Not covid as already had that recently and tested negative this time.

My worst symptom is a sore throat and hoarse voice, along with a temperature, and feeling really tired. Coughing now as well but not really snotty or congested like a cold would be. It all started 4 days ago when I suddenly felt really faint and weak and nearly passed out.

Can't believe it's the middle of summer - don't these things usually circulate in the winter?

34and3 · 23/06/2024 15:25

Sorry it's got you @stripytees dd is on day 4 too but today I think she's turned a corner - got showered, came food shopping with me and has had a few bites to eat. Still spiking temps but lower than past few days

Covid

stillavid · 23/06/2024 16:50

My 14 year old had it last week, was v poorly for about 5 days but then recovered pretty quickly. Lots of fluids and paracetamol when necessary.

Hope your DC feels better soon. Oh DD also got a rash all over her torso on day 4 which lasted 24 hours.

It wasn't covid as she was tested - I assumed it was a flu type virus.

Forhecksake · 23/06/2024 18:54

Several coworkers and I have it at the moment. We tested because we work with a vulnerable group. It's Covid. The fever and pain is bad, but now it's joined by the world falling out of my nose.

Makinglists · 24/06/2024 18:04

How's everyone doing - day 6 here and after feeling pretty ropey all weekend I'm starting to feel normal again. The main lingering symptom now is mild nausea and a bit of a flare up of IBS symptoms. Hope everyone's feeling better

Why would you take her to a supermarket to spread whatever it is around? At 14 surely it wasn’t essential?

I was wondering exactly the same thing. Stay in the house if you have any kind of virus/flu/bug!!! Common sense and decency.

Sunflowersinthewind · 24/06/2024 18:35

The mind boggles that you posted to ask what this could possibly be.

I’ve currently got Covid and it’s awful. I’m immune suppressed and waiting for antivirals. Zero sympathy with a teenager rousing herself to go to the supermarket for boredom relief when she still has a temperature. Jesus what is wrong with people?!?

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 24/06/2024 18:41

I tested positive Friday. Today I feel Normal again.

Feel like as I've not been vaccinated for a few years now my symptoms were definitely worse that previous bouts.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/06/2024 18:55

Probably COVID. There’s a new variant causing an increase in cases. I tested positive yesterday. And I only had it 7 weeks ago!! I feel crap. It’s not just a cold. But I’m hopefully it will be shorter-lived than flu, going off past experience. I’ve had it enough times to have lost count now. Fully vaxxed. But work in a primary school. It boils my blood that the government was trying to say that there was no risk to school staff. There clearly is. Most of us are constantly ill but don’t bother testing anymore. I do cos my mum is vulnerable.

Makinglists · 24/06/2024 18:55

This is my second time with Covid (last time was 2021) and this was definitely worse. Last time is was a bit of a cold and a fuzzy head for a week. This time I felt really ill - I had the standard jabs offered to healthy over 50s so wonder if my immunity has waned.

MoreHairyThanScary · 24/06/2024 19:08

I ve had a horrendous sore throat that's now developed into a chest infection tested for Covid but negative, fingers crossed your dd starts to feel better soon.

I had exactly this a month ago. I'm never sick. Was a chest infection and it floored me!

PixellatedPixie · 24/06/2024 19:58

I have just had a week of this too and found an old test and it is Covid. My husband had it too and lost all sense of smell. I hardly ever get ill and haven’t had to spend a day in bed for about the past 7 years but this really made me feel awful!

34and3 · 24/06/2024 21:02

For all the haters... my dd is covid NEGATIVE.
