Dd14 has had a headache and temperature (spiking up to 39.6) and it's now day 4 and no sign of let-up. GP just said a "flu-like illness" Hmm Short of keeping on top of calpol/ nurofen I don't know what else to do but she's only had two weetabix and a fromage frais in four days.

Haters? For goodness sake grow up. It was unnecessary, selfish and totally inconsiderate to take a teenager with symptoms of a viral illness, serious enough to have consulted a GP, to the supermarket. Covid, flu or whatever it is. Own it and use a bit of common sense in future.

I’ve just had a vicious bug. Sore throat, horrible mucous and temperature. Gave up after ten days and went to GP yesterday. Was expecting to be sent away with a flea in my ear but I was given antibiotics and steroids. Apparently it was quite severe and I should have gone earlier. Don’t hesitate to get your DD to the GP if you’re worried.

Have just read your update, OP. You must be so worried. Glad she’s in the right place and being taken care of. Huge hugs and handhold. Please update when you’re ready ❤️

My daughter and three of my friends sons have been the same all week and yep it's covid.
They all have been pretty poorly with it but all seem to have turned a corner today after 4 days.

Now day 10. Dd has pneumonia. She's on two types of antibiotics. Temperatures seem to have calmed down but still short of breath.

We went to the GP on day 3 and day 7 and this time were sent to hospital.

We were told if children still have a temperature (a high one, not so much low grade) they need investigations.

She had 2 x chest X-ray, bloods, covid swab (NEGATIVE). We have to go back to the hospital tomorrow for a repeat X-ray to see if the antibiotics are taking effect.

In the US they have drop in centres where you can get swabbed and results back to you in a few hours for all manner of respiratory illnesses. OP's daughter may have been diagnosed on day 3 or 4.

In the UK, we have GPs who carry out no tests and diagnose 'flu-type illnesses' requiring further GP appointments and eventual hospital admission when patient is more ill.

Before I get accused of 'wanting to privatise the NHS', that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying something has to change beyond just pouring more money into the system. We need to reform and update the way care works.

OP - Just returning to this thread - hope your Dd is improving and the xray goes well tomorrow.
