I am not medically trained but I have diverticulitis and the way I deal with it is to figure out what I can and can't eat.

When you get an answer then I;m all ears .
I'm in the same boat . I had a Colonoscopy ( I think my 4th) two years ago after my worst ever flare up left me housebound for 8 weeks .

Colonoscopy showed exctensive inflammation across much of my intenstine .and I have an ulcer on the right side .
I get the pinching on my left side which usually heralds a bout of bleeding .
Thankfully it has settled but it's only a matter of time ...Hmm

I was meant to be referred to GI specialist but the scan was looked at and no further treatment proposed .
At the time there was a lot in the news about bowel cancer , I had screening for that then they were handing my case back to my GP as they had ruled it out

When it flares again I;ll go back to the GP , I think the next course of action will be antibiotics and another Colonoscopy .

GP says to admit myself to A&E if it's too bad .

Some foods will aggrevate me , trial and error to find these out . Worse is high fat like cheddar .

Buscopan and Mebeverine if it flares up .
(Yes and the wind is awful Blush )

I get diverticulitis and during flare-ups I get really bad pain, wind and bloating and poo several times a day. Not diahorrea but it never feels I have emptied my bowels. I usually need a course of antibiotics. Occasionally I have had a stay in hospital for intravenous antibiotics. I didn't understand the bit about you asked for the scan to be checked again, why? How?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/06/2024 13:30

My adult DD was in hospital with this recently she was sent home with a ton of antibiotics and a plan of how to gradually increase her fibre intake to stop it recurring.

saveforthat · 09/06/2024 13:33

I now take stool softeners and eat lots of fibre as constipation is the worst thing for diverticulitis and take a daily probiotic. Things seem settled so far touch wood.

Wind, diarhea and extreme pain in her lower abdomen, like the worst period pain she said.

When you are having a flare up, eat bland food. White bread, fish, mashed potato. Bring back the fibre gradually when your infection has gone. I've had diverticulitis for about 15 years, it takes a while to learn how to manage your symptoms.

Yes, my dd was only allowed soup for the first couple of days. Then mushy food. Then normal food. Then gradually make swaps to higher fibre alternatives. One change every few days she was told.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget My wind is really really bad and very loud… is that a symptom of it?

Don't know if it's due to this (I have a long and tortuous journey , well over 15 + years ) I'm menopausal too so maybe the bloat is part of that (and the wind !)

I don;t know if there is an answer , it's just become something I live with .

I'm a vegetarian and some meat-replacements are not good for my poor insides . I think that's quite a common problem though.

She was kept in hospital for 3 days. She has no spleen so infections are taken way more seriously. She felt well enough to go back to work on day 6, but still felt a bit sore for another week.

Safa2 · 09/06/2024 14:45

Thanks a lot I’m jus in agony 😣😣 hopefully these tablets work so I can be a mum again to my baby’s ..

Hello
I'm having an outbreak at the moment and my arse is literally like a foghorn. The crippling pain in my stomach is awful as well. I've been given some oral antibiotics
