Has anyone had their wisdom teeth out and NOT got dry socket?

Clues in the title really. Having my lower two out next week and everyone I tell has had an experience with dry socket!

Absolute worst fear. Has anyone had them out, followed the aftercare advice and they've been fine?!

I’ve had all wisdom teeth out at various times and never had any problems :)

Plate24 · 02/05/2024 09:33

Yes, I had two out, very complicated extraction, no dry socket and healing was a breeze. Hope that it’s better than you think!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/05/2024 09:33

I had all mine out and no problems whatsoever.

Lollygaggle · 02/05/2024 09:33

Taken thousands out , had dry socket happen in only a few . Had mine out no problem . Follow advice , don't smoke, don't use a straw to drink (pulls clot out of socket) you should be ok.

mumonthehill · 02/05/2024 09:33

i have had 2 out at the dentist and it was fine afterwards.

Jeezitneverends · 02/05/2024 09:34

I had all my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic when I was 18, and another couple of molars since then, never a hint of a dry socket.

Follow the aftercare advice RELIGIOUSLY (I won’t post what I did as it was a long time ago and the advice may have changed)

idontlikealdi · 02/05/2024 09:34

I had two top ones out with no issues.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 02/05/2024 09:34

Same - I had a bit of a swollen face for a couple of days but no dry socket.

DazedAndKerfuddled · 02/05/2024 09:34

I didn't get dry socket with my wisdom teeth, i did with a random one years later but definitely not my wisdom

I had all 4 out under a general tho so not sure if that makes a difference

FlameTulip · 02/05/2024 09:34

Me, I've only had one out but it was 25 years ago and I've had no problems since then.

Verite1 · 02/05/2024 09:35

I had one out and no problems at all. It wasn’t even that painful.

Octavia64 · 02/05/2024 09:36

Me.

3 out no problems.

YellowSunRays · 02/05/2024 09:37

I'm a dentist phobe and was terrified of having a wisdom tooth out but my dentist was lovely and it was quick and painless.
Followed the aftercare advice and had no issues at all.
No swelling and have had more painful fillings. Good luck!

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 02/05/2024 09:38

Me, not painful (the extraction) and no problems. I did need antibiotics and had to wait to have it out due to an infection- now that did hurt!
Had mine out years ago- everyone seems to get dry socket these days.

JeysusH · 02/05/2024 09:39

Another fine one here, all out under a general and healed very quickly with no problems.

Good luck OP, it will more than likely go smoothly. People just like to share horror stories!

lilyflower1803 · 02/05/2024 09:39

Reassuring to hear thank you :) I'm having mine out under GA as they are being awkward..

Had two out one under general absolutely fine, one under local and I think the young lady dentist was a butcher, took forever, broke it out in a dozen pieces and cut the inside of my cheek, so that I needed stitches and antibiotics. The tooth socket healed fine, but I looked like a gerbil for a couple of weeks!

LemonySnickets · 02/05/2024 09:43

I've had 3 out. No problem at all during or after extraction.

Oo ouch!! That's not ideal, but glad to hear that it healed fine otherwise!

I had to have an extraction 2 years ago, I was not looking forward to it and had my DM recalled story of a dry socket at the forefront of my mind... they put a collagen plug into the socket and I did everything possible to keep that in place and followed all the instructions to the letter and I was absolutely fine!

Shock Oh that sounds awful!

N0tfinished · 02/05/2024 09:46

Oh I'm one of a million obviously, had one out the middle of march & got dry socket. It was awful. I was in pain for weeks. I did make the mistake of brushing my teeth the night I got it out... as I was doing it I thought 'oh shit, I shouldn't have done this'. As I was spitting out I saw I'd disturbed the clot. It was rotten & dentist put me on the most awful antibiotics that made me dizzy & ill.

Definitely follow after care instructions to the letter. I don't even know why I started brushing, it was one of those auto-pilot things. God forbid it happens to you, definitely go back to the dentist and the Corsodyl mouthwash with chlorhexidine helped.

snackprovidersupreme · 02/05/2024 09:47

I needed this thread! I had the two bottom ones done under Ga and it was fine. No dry socket! I now have to have a top one out next week and absolutely petrified because it'll be at the dentist. How is the actual procedure?!

Bear2014 · 02/05/2024 09:47

Never had any problems - definitely follow advice religiously and take care
