Hello

I have had this so many times but i always leave it then it gets so bad.
I have noticed it appeared under my nose like it always does. Before it gets bad - what do i need to get? I had a steroid cream before which in my opinion made it 100 times worse!

Please could someone give me some advice as I really don't want it getting bad like it did before - really got me down!

Thanks x

I think I have this in the corner of my mouth. I use deprobase on it and o keefes lip balm stick on an evening, keeps it at bay. I'm a bit scared to use topical steroids tbh.

Maybeicanhelpyou · 18/04/2024 21:17

Fucidin
Youll need a prescription

Roundthebend45 · 18/04/2024 21:19

Do not use steroid cream - that will make it better at first and then much worse. You need metro gel (metronidazole) and some antibiotics from the doctor. It’s the only way I have found to clear it up. I think the metro gel has to be prescribed.

Dinosaurus86 · 18/04/2024 21:19

A thick layer of sudocrem worked for me. It was a while ago so memory is hazy but it did take a few weeks. I’d put it on really thickly at night and mix with foundation for the day, so I could still put it on then without funny white patches.

emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:20

@Bearpawk yes honestly from my experience do not get it. As it made mine awful, I've read online antibiotics- but I just don't know. Mine always comes under my nose to begin with, il try what you said! I'm just so worried it will get worse, as it covers all under my nose above my mouth when it does! Such a crappy thing to get xx

@Maybeicanhelpyou thank you - il look into it xx

Do not use steroids of any sort, it might clear it up but will come back worse every time.
Things that have helped me are stripping skin care back, gentle cleansning with cool water, don't use actives, lyonsleaf zinc and calendula, sulphur soap (drying but helps) and avene ciclafate.

emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:22

@Roundthebend45 yes that's the name! I forgot what it was called as when I had it last year I was pregnant so I couldn't be prescribed it. Which antibiotics were you prescribed? As I saw a dermatologist before but I was referred and it took so long, my doctors didn't have a clue - so would be good to go with the names of things I need xx

@Dinosaurus86 I will try that tonight!! Thank you xx

@Hopperinhawkins yes it made mine absolutely awful so never again! I'm going to wash my face with just water I think - it's so stressful, worried it will get terrible like last time- sounds silly but it got me so so down! Xx

I think it was Erythromycin - it’s not as strong as some of the others, but it worked and did clear it up.

twohotwaterbottles · 18/04/2024 21:26

Steroids actually make this condition worse after the initial improvement. Ask your doc to refer you to a dermatologist and they will give you a very specific oral antibiotic. Good luck 😊

user12343333333334 · 18/04/2024 21:28

And stop using fluoride toothpaste for a while as it aggravates it. (Really!)

emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:29

@Roundthebend45 amazing thank you. X

@twohotwaterbottles yes I did get referred last year, I may try ring the place and just ask the lady I saw what to ask my doctor for - I wasn't aloud any of it as I was pregnant at the time! X

@user12343333333334 oh my god yes I forgot about the toothpaste. I actually changed it recently- I actually think that might be what caused it!! Thank you x

Lyonsleaf zinc and calendula cream

Hopperinhawkins · 18/04/2024 21:37

@emlouba ,its so demoralising and it got me down too. I rarely post here but I'm very sympathetic to it! Interesting fluoride is OK for me but sls is definitely a no-no

emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:42

@Hopperinhawkins it really is. As you try everything and the doctor told me to carry on with the steroid cream before but it was getting so much worse, it's stressful! Yes I think changing my toothpaste has bought it on. So going to stop using that and go back to my other one! Xx

Lyonsleaf zinc and calendula cream

This stuff is amazing

Maybeicanhelpyou · 18/04/2024 21:44

It is likely that it is an infection of some sort. Bacterial or fungal. If you put a thick cream on it, you will just create an environment for the bugs to multiply, so this won’t help. A thin layer of something like sudocreme or an anti fungal may be enough, although over the counter stuff if not very strong. Ideally you need to see a doctor or dentist to get a prescription for the correct cream.

Invisimamma · 18/04/2024 21:47

Strange question but so you get BIAB or gel nails? I read something today that it can be an allergy to the ingredients appearing elsewhere on the body. I have it on my eyelid at the moment so was looking into it.

tulippa · 18/04/2024 21:47

I had this when DS was a baby. It was depressing and I hate looking at photos of myself from that time. Two doctors gave me steroid cream until a third prescribed antibiotics which eventually made it go away. It was 15 years ago so I can't remember which ones.

emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:50

@MotherofMigraines thank you! I will look into this x

OP posts:
emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:52

@Maybeicanhelpyou Yes it's perioral dermititis which I think is a dermatitis- I saw a dermatologist last year and I done SO much research too, so I know it's that. I think I will call the doctors and ask for some antibiotics as honestly he tried so many things, I am
Just so worried it's going to spread like before, it was really awful! I hated going out! Xx

OP posts:
emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:53

@tulippa it's honestly awful isn't it? It got me really down. I hated leaving the house! I was pregnant too so I was so emotional about it. I just really want to try cure it now so that it doesn't spread over my face like before! Xx

OP posts:
emlouba · 18/04/2024 21:54

@Invisimamma yes I have heard this causes infections too, but when I had it before I hadn't got biab, I haven't at the moment either - I honestly think my trigger for mine is my toothpaste!
With yours on your eye, it sounds very similar as my sister gets it there and I get it below my nose! Xx
