Did you have any major side-effects with it?

yep i take it, its been ok apart from unpredictable bleeding, although saying that, i havent bled for getting ona year now

NaughtyNigel · 27/03/2008 22:39

I took it for years. loved it. no side effects. no periods. fantastic. although there are some major ones to look out for like mood swings, depression etc etc.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/03/2008 22:39

were you taking it for contraception only?

OP posts:
NaughtyNigel · 27/03/2008 22:40

not really as female bits a bit buggered. i took it to control serious pain during ovulation and periods. it worked.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/03/2008 22:47

Ah. That's what GP has recommended it for.

Have been having increasingly hideous period pains - before and during. Last two months i've nearly passed out at points due to pain like sitting on a hot knife.

He mentioned contraceptive injection too. I'm just concerned because I went on the pill (various different types) in my teens and it didnt really help with pains, and it triggered regular migraines (which I still get now, but only very rarely).

I really cant live with migraines. They can strike at any time and on balance with period pain - i know which I'd rather have.

was ok for me. hope it is ok for you.

Used Cerazette and suffered head aches.
Was on the depo injection for 4 years but gained alot of wiehgt, roughly a stone a year (but I was very skinny and underweight before) which luckily came off very easily once stopped.
Depo was great if you can live with a little extra weight.
If I were you I'd give the depo injection a go and see how you feel. The injections last 11 - 12 weeks so you'll know quickly if it suits you.

I use it and also recommend it for a lot of my patients- its fab!

Its the only mini-pill which also prevents ovulation, making it a better contraceptive than older mini-pills and useful in preventing period problems associated with ovulation.

It really shouldn't cause an increase in migraines as there is no oestrogen in it, unlike the normal combined pill, which you may have taken previously.

A word of warning about depo-provera, if you have side effects, it doesn't wear off for a few weeks/months. It can also cause a major delay to your fertility returning to normal once you stop it, which may be an issue should you want a family.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 28/03/2008 00:06

Ah. Thank you both.

I'm really not keen on the injection.

TBH, I'd kinda like a diagnosis of whats causing the problem first, rather than a hap-hazard "try this and see if it works" type approach. I'm too long in the tooth for this!

i have a question about this pill. say i had sex on tuesday and missed a pill on wednesday, would i be ok or would i need to get MAP?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 28/03/2008 00:56

That's not a question about this pill....

No idea though!

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 28/03/2008 00:58

it is. i'm on cerazette!

NaughtyNigel · 28/03/2008 10:16

would imagine it would be o.k as it stops ovulation. i'd check though. That'll teach you!

Porpoise · 28/03/2008 10:18

VVV, my GP just recommended Cezarette to PREVENT my migraines!

(not sure about taking it, though, for other reasons)

bubblagirl · 28/03/2008 10:26

i take cerrazzette my history bad painful periods body rejected evreything bled for 2 yrs straigh losing my hair due to being anemic no pain killers worked

had injection but body rejected went from every 3 mths to evry 6 weeks had to come off had ds in between and then didnt stop bleeding again for a yr had cerrazzete fine for a yr no side affects no pain no bleeding body started to reject have been on 2 tabs a day for last 2 yrs fine no bleeding no pain i can finally relax in white linen trousers hooray

if you missa pill your not safe for a week and most antibiotics dont affect it so all round i love it

has been alot of people linked to depression so would keep an eye on that

intravenouscoffee · 28/03/2008 10:32

Just started taking cerazette five weeks ago with aim of stopping heavy periods. Had high hopes of no bleeding etc but 28days after my last period started the next one arrived. Maybe a little lighter than usual but not noticably. Ran a search on here and it seems to have had mixed effects, some love it others had real problems. Am going to give it another couple of months and see if things settle down as some people have reported it taking 3 months or so to sort itself out.

bubblagirl · 28/03/2008 10:39

it takes 3 mths for periods to stop took me longer as i was like that anyway but after about 5 months for me nothing

bubblagirl · 28/03/2008 10:42

and i was worlds worse for bleeding gp said this was last hope before having to resort to drastic action as for 12 yrs anemic bled for yrs on end and thank god for this

it does take a while to stop completely and can bleed in beteween i had to go onto 2 tablets as started bleeding in between continuously but that was after a yr and body always rejected but 2 yrs on 2 tabs no bleeding at all

but do give it at least 6 mths as dependingon what bleeding was like before will not be as quick took me around 5 - 6 mths and then stopped god send thought id never see the day so did gp lol

VeniVidiVickiQV · 28/03/2008 12:09

Thank you everyone

The depression thing concerns me - I'm already on Sertraline for PND. I can start to wean myeslf off of them, but I'm not in any rush.

Oh its difficult to know what to do for the best!

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 28/03/2008 12:54

i would say to go on them as i have had no bouts of depression just see how you get on with it

give it a few months if you feel in yourself your not getting any better come off them

emma1977 · 28/03/2008 14:31

Nappyaddict...

As long as you took Tuesday's pill on time, there shouldn't be a problem.

However, you aren't covered for 48hrs from the day of the pill that you missed.

eternalstudent · 28/03/2008 14:51

I am on cerazette and have been bleeding for 4 weeks now. Not a lot but still... Going to Dr on Mon to change back to Microgynon which I used from 16 - 26 with no probs at all.

nappyaddict · 28/03/2008 18:37

ah phew emma. that's what i thought but thought i'd better check!

nappyaddict · 28/03/2008 18:39

btw emma - i asked you a while ago about withdrawal bleeds. is it still a withdrawal bleed if it lasts say 4 or 5 days? if i miss a pill i seem to bleed for anything up to a week as if it were a real period but not sure if i can count it as one iyswim.
