Breast lump

On Monday I noticed quite a large breast lump while examining myself. I felt extremely anxious and barely slept at all that night.

yesterday morning I managed to get a doctors appointment. He examined me thoroughly and said he felt the lump and a smaller one and the same breast but that both felt mobile which is often reassuring. He has referred me to the breast clinic on the 2 week pathway. I initially felt more reassured after the appointment.

Today I received a call to book me into the breast clinic next Thursday and I am feeling really anxious again. I do suffer with health anxiety - it is even on my doctors notes!
My head keeps going to worse case scenarios and I am so scared. 😟

I have cysts that don't hurt at all. People are probably acting shocked to be empathetic towards you but doesn't mean it's necessarily something untoward.

It's really common to have a lump that needs to be checked.

All the best Bluebackedsheep for next week.

I was this useful the last time I had to go to the Breast clinic www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/presence-mind/201803/how-manage-breast-cancer-screeningdiagnosis-anxiety

Thinking of you op and all others waiting for their appointments. I've been four times - only one has led to an ultrasound and she detected that it was a fatty lump within minutes, and my notes state that I have dense breasts. It's such an awful time waiting, but if chatting on this thread is helping you in any way at all then keep going - there are so many amazing people here who can offer you reassurance, share their experiences and simply listen to you. Hope all goes well

BonzoGates · 27/02/2024 21:56

you can be as scared as you like but you must gather your strength and take a run at the problem

this is the quote that sustained me. It was from an American woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer but she was encouraging other women to get checked if they found something.

Thank you for those links, Bonzo. I have had a quick read and will read again as my appointment approaches.

Once again today I have had periods of calm followed by periods of panic and anxiety. I keep feeling the lump hoping it might have shrunk a bit, but of course it hasn’t.

I suffer with health anxiety at the best of times which doesn’t help. 😕

Thank you all for your support.

That's okay Pink. You only have one more day to wait. It isn't easy but you are almost there.

BonzoGates · 28/02/2024 21:40

Best luck for tomorrow Pink 💐

Corksoles · 28/02/2024 21:45

Hey Pink. I'm always at breast clinic as I have very very cysty boobs. Mine have never hurt so don't worry about yours being painless. And mine are definitely not soft - they feel hard and interestingly the ones that feel large have turned out to be several clumped together.

kristie198 · 28/02/2024 22:13

Good luck for tomorrow xxx

pinkchampagne1 · 28/02/2024 22:48

Thank you all. I am feeling absolutely terrified as the appointment approaches. I know I will be an anxious mess tomorrow but I have to get through it.

What time is it Pink? Am or pm. Will send positive vibes.

skmissty · 28/02/2024 23:28

I had something which sounds very similar to you and it was a cyst. It was only slightly painful just before my period. Haven't felt pain from it for a while now.

Still there and that was about 2 years ago now!

The nurses at the clinic were absolute diamonds. They will look after you. xxx

skmissty · 28/02/2024 23:31

The worst thing that happened to me was the consultant telling me I just had gristly boobs!

They did ask if they could take some fluid from it and I was like.. erm. No thanks!

IHateLegDay · 28/02/2024 23:38

Sending you a handhold for your appointment. I hope it's something minor and easily treatable xxx

pinkchampagne1 · 29/02/2024 07:40

Thank you all for your support.

My appointment is at 9.50am. Luckily they let my DH come home from his night shift a little earlier so he gets a bit of sleep before having to drive me.

My stomach is like a washing machine. Every time I woke in the night I had a churning stomach. I am feeling very scared. 😟

That was really good of your dh's job. I'm heading into work after WFH due to a cold. I'm guessing you have a mammogram just before 9.50 so I'll keep you in my thoughts just before that. Hold your nerve.

pinkchampagne1 · 29/02/2024 07:56

Thank you. I will report back whatever the outcome.

Turbulent1 · 29/02/2024 08:56

Random internet stranger here sending you a hug and lots of good luck.
I have been through a few of these sort of lousy health tests and U understand the anxiety, hope it's all over for you quickly

pinkchampagne1 · 29/02/2024 15:04

I have had my appointment and the doctor examining me said straight away that she was pretty confident it was a cyst. Unfortunately the ultrasound machine wasn’t working so I will have to go back for that but she drained horrible brown fluid from it so she was certain that’s what it was. She also said cysts like to bring friends so the other lump is likely another cyst and there is a good chance I could have some in the other breast.

I was sent for a mammogram after which was uncomfortable but not too bad.
I will have to wait for the results of that but for now I feel really relieved.

Thank you all so much for your support through this horrible anxious time. You have all been so kind. 💐

I'm so delighted for you Pink.

I think you could probably do with a glass or three of pink champers tonight.

Well done on getting it checked out.

BonzoGates · 29/02/2024 15:22

Best luck to all others waiting to attend the clinic 💐
