Starrrz · 06/02/2024 21:09

So i had my PIP assessment today, i had a text 1.5hrs saying that DWP have received my assessment and they will let
me know when theyve made a decision.
Does this mean i can ring DWP and ask for a copy of my report? And abit worried i got that text super fast…

It is automated, once the completion of the assessment has been confirmed.

Babyroobs · 06/02/2024 21:25

It is very quick. how did the assessment go?

Starrrz · 06/02/2024 21:30

@Babyroobs so when the lady rang. She said her name. She said that she wants to just know abit more about my conditions and abit more about my meds. She asked me if i work what do i do. Etc. Asked if i had any pets.
she said im not here to catch you out just to go through this. If u need a break just let me know. She didnt really say alot when i said things. When she ended the call she said good luck and i hope you get it all sorted. So i dunno , gonna have to wait 😩 if i dont get it will i get a text saying i wont be getting it? X

You should get a text saying they will write with a decision within 8 weeks.

Believe me the pet questions are usually to catch people out !

Starrrz · 06/02/2024 21:59

@Babyroobs thats what i thought! When she asked i thought hmmm! She said how does he get fed and she was like ok. I said my cat goes off for days. I did think that was a very weird question. She didnt really say anything , i prob wont get it x

I don't recall the pet question but if they did I didnt have one then anyway. Tbh I don't remember much about the actual assessment because the day before I was switched to a different antidepressant and I was so spaced out 🤦🏻‍♀️ actually it probably helped with the nerves tbh 😂

It's such a draining process to go through I was so relieved when I got it. Good luck I hope you hear back soon x

InMySpareTime · 07/02/2024 07:27

They ask the pet question because they can extrapolate your care needs from those you provide for your pets or children. Assessors will say that if you can regularly prepare food for a pet then you can feed yourself too, and if you walk a dog you don't have mobility issues.
Mine said that I don't have dexterity issues because I said I occasionally do jigsaws.

Starrrz · 07/02/2024 08:38

@InMySpareTime ooo i see. I said my partner feeds my cat before work. She said oo cats are independent thats ok.
so did you not get ur pip? X

@todayshappening oo that was a good things you was abit spaced out lol. I was a nervous wreck lol! Ok thankyou :) xx

Every question is to catch you out! I was as asked if I drive and this was used against me. Report said it takes dexterity and a high level of thought processing (clearly never seen me drive🤣) , although I'd not said I had a problem with either of those things! How do they explain using pip for getting a car then if literally no disabled people can drive?

InMySpareTime · 07/02/2024 08:50

I got some PIP but still appealing for other points I should have got.
Eg assessor said she would have awarded points for planning and following a journey as I only go out when DH takes me, but as I have a degree (from 20 years ago before I became unwell) I should be able to go out alone. Never mind that my working memory is useless, as it's not a learning difficulty it doesn't count.
Most days I don't have the energy to wash myself at all or get dressed, but because on the days I do I can reach my feet I got no points.
It's a shit system that is designed to dishearten already vulnerable people. If you don't get the points you are entitled to, go to appeal, the vast majority of appeals succeed. The appeal system is much friendlier than the initial application system

Starrrz · 07/02/2024 08:52

@Mmmmdanone she asked me if i drove too! I said i drive to work which is 8 min drive! 2 days a week. Sometimes i get lifts, its such a nightmare! And thats right! How do they get cars if we cant even get a little bit of help because we drive xx

OP posts:
Starrrz · 07/02/2024 08:54

@InMySpareTime oo im sorry to hear that :( i hope you get what you deserve x its such a shame you have to fight like it.
tbh i dont even know if ill get anything but if i dont i will definitely appeal. She seemed like she wanted to get through it quick and get it done. Xx

@Mmmmdanone did you not get it ? X

TomeTome · 07/02/2024 09:00

They’re not questions to “catch you out” they’re designed to give a better picture of the level of function you have. Lots of people could say they manage but not being able to open the cat food will reveal a lack of dexterity that you may have worked around in other areas.

OhNoDontYouDare · 07/02/2024 09:04

There's recent case law regarding DWP using driving as a reason to deny PIP. I can't find the link at the moment as in a bit of a rush, but DWP shouldn't use the fact that you may drive as evidence that you have no issues concentrating etc.

Starrrz · 07/02/2024 09:06

@TomeTome yeah true , its whether they write exactly what you said. X

OP posts:
Starrrz · 07/02/2024 09:07

@OhNoDontYouDare oo ok :) hopefully they dont. The wait just makes me nervous. This whole process is so stressful x
