I don't wear make up and just wash my face with water, so I don't get that tight feeling. I think my skin is better now - I feel like in the past I was just taking off moisture with cleaners and adding it back with moisturiser. I do wear SPF in summer though.

Yeah in fact, since I stopped showering daily, I've notice a massive improvement in my skin, especially during winter.

I top and tail daily and I find I rarely ever need to moisturise.

Turns out that skin oils itself and excessive showering and use of soaps is bad for your skin.

Who knew eh?

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 27/01/2024 16:51

I don’t generally. I have a private water supply and find my skin doesn’t need it. If I shower at work/ gym I need to moisturise my face / body. Everyone thinks I’m about 10 years younger so it’s working for me.

What's this miraculous private water supply then? Maybe you should bottle it!

timetofetgit · 27/01/2024 17:02

Nope. Nor use any lip balms as I realised the more I used the more it felt like I needed it. I went completely cold Turkey on both. In my 50s and have a very 'youthful' face. But I know I'm just lucky with my genetics. My dm never wore make up or used any moisturisers, and had very few wrinkles and lovely skin right up until she died at 80.

Its just an underground spring, rural so no options 😉.I think the chlorine/ whatever they put in the mains water supply makes your skin feel dry/ tight. It’s the same feeling when I swim at local pool but after wild swimming in the loch my skin feels fine.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 27/01/2024 17:19

Yes moisturiser in the morning, retinol serum at night. Face, neck and delocatage. Notice if I skip a few days. Have been doing it since my early 20's ( I am 48).

HuntingForChicken · 27/01/2024 17:21

No I don’t, we too have a water supply from a natural underground lake. I drank a glass of water at a friends house a mile away and was so shocked how awful and chemical it tasted.
I might get my face damp in the shower but that is it and I too have good skin. I do use sunscreen everyday from spring onwards though.

ObliviousCoalmine · 27/01/2024 17:21

Yes, twice a day.

You shouldn't really wash your face in the shower, the water you tend to wash your body in is generally too hot for your face.

catagoryA · 27/01/2024 17:22

never touched moisturiser in my life, my skin is great, I have never had that tight feeling others are talking about

NetZeroZealot · 27/01/2024 17:22

yes, twice a day since my teenage years.

60 now but look about 10 years younger.

My dog won’t drink chlorinated tap water, it is surprising how chemically it tastes/ smells when you aren’t used to
it.

Giggorata · 27/01/2024 17:50

Yes, since I was about 18.
Otherwise I wouldn't be able to smile or talk.
Now, not too wrinkly for an old bat.

Sausagis · 27/01/2024 17:59

Hell no. If I moisturize daily I get dozens of spots. Once or twice a week is all I've ever managed to get away with.

LynetteScavo · 27/01/2024 18:06

Yes, serum, eye cream and moisturiser every morning. Thirty years ago I figured older rich men looked better than poor older men because they moisturised, so decided I would also moisturise a lot- it seems to have worked well so far. If you're having issues you'll need an appropriate one though.

Hiwhoeveryyouare · 27/01/2024 18:10

I do, as I always have had dry skin. I personally think it is dehydration and circulation that causes it and if you are lucky enough to have good circulation and remember to drink water/like the taste you are less likely to need it.

NahHumBrag · 27/01/2024 18:14

Minimum of twice a day, often 3 times (3rd after the gym).

eye cream
serum
moisturiser
SPF

And then at night:

eye cream
different serum
facial oil
night cream

After the gym, it would be just moisturiser and SPF.

Been doing a version of this since I was about 14. A long time ago…!

HuntingForChicken · 27/01/2024 18:14

@LynetteScavo i suspect that is more to do with diet and lifestyle. Richer people tend to have the head space to do the things needed for good health. I believe the skin is a mirror for what is going on inside the body. No amount of moisturiser is going to make up for 20 fags a day, a fast food diet or excessive alcohol.

goingback · 27/01/2024 18:15

Yes, old acne face now with rosacea, need to use a daily high spf moisturiser, and anti redness cream at night

BeaRF75 · 27/01/2024 18:17

No, never. And way too old to bother starting now.

Vicliz24 · 27/01/2024 18:19

Yes morning and night since I was a teenager

No.
Never.
I have greasy skin.
Moisturising it makes things much worse.

bradpittsbathwater · 27/01/2024 18:31

Every morning. Sometimes in the evening if I can be bothered but I often just sleep in my make up. Still have really good skin fortunately

Groovee · 27/01/2024 18:33

I use cerave foaming cleanser to wash my face. Then I brush my teeth to give it time to fully dry before putting the moisturiser on.

I do that morning and night. It's made a huge difference to my skin.

I also aim to drink as much water as I can.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 27/01/2024 18:43

I can’t imagine not.
