Constantly unwell...

Elisabeth3468 · 05/01/2024 20:35

Since I had my gall bladder removed when my son was 1 years old, I've been constantly unwell.
I always have on and off diarrhoea but I think my immune system must be so down because I catch everything going.
From September to now I'm on my THIRD sickness and diarrhoea bug. This one being the worst and I can't get off the toilet - been going on for over 24 hours now.
Aside from this I had mastitis last week and needed anti biotics.
In November I had a really bad chest thing where I was breathless and couldn't even speak. Then lots of colds too (they don't bother me though because at least I can carry on).
I never used to catch anything and now I feel like I'm constantly unwell??
Any tips on improving my immune system. I work in the hospital as a nurse so constantly exposed to germs. I get sick more often than my 2 year old it seems.

Probiotics and prebiotics for your gut, especially after antibiotics

healthy diet with lots of fresh food

vitamin d, zinc, c and magnesium

and of course a mask, and regular hand washing. I know in hospitals nurses are told to use gel over hand washing but isn’t it common knowledge yet that hand gel doesn’t kill norovirus and the like? So definitely hand washing over hand gel where possible!

Elisabeth3468 · 05/01/2024 23:45

Thank you @WhatAFoolishFool
I already do most of these apart from the pro biotics so will order some.
We are never told to gel over hand washing, hand washing more effective. My hands are always so dry and sore because of how many times I wash my hands in the day at work.

Whats your vitd number?

Actimel is good - i foolishly stopped it for 4 days ane had my first cold in 12 months

KittyKatATattTatt · 06/01/2024 12:14

It could be some food intolerances or a sensitivity to certain drinks? lack of certain vitamins? Have a chat to your Doctor or do a home food sensitivity test, you can get them from boots. I had a friend who had similar when she had her gallbladder removed, stomach issues and it even made her extra sensitive to cold to the point that her hands and feet would swell up. She'd be wearing polo necks in the summer. The human body can be a strange thing at times. I hope you feel better soon

Metatone is great when you're run down.

DustyLee123 · 06/01/2024 12:16

Have you had a flu and Covid jab?

Tel12 · 06/01/2024 12:18

Vitamin D is known to boost the immune system so might be worth a go. Do some research and see if it might benefit you.

KittyKatATattTatt · 06/01/2024 12:18

I second that! My family call it a 'Tonic'! always been brilliant for making you feel better and energetic again after a bout of illness/flu. It can be hard to get but you can buy it in bulk on Amazon

KittyKatATattTatt · 06/01/2024 14:32

Just clarifying that I was talking about Metatone : )

Meant to add I take a multi vitamin (because ttc) and a high dose of vitamin D. I think it's 4000ug or something. I had an early miscarriage October but I'm not surprised I don't feel like my body is in a state to carry a pregnancy.
The problem is I know a lot of immunity is linked to gut health. And since gall bladder removal my bowels have just been terrible. Lost so much weight too. I've had to advice on nutrition or anything to help just been given medication to take.

Also still going strong with the diarrhoea (every 30 minutes ) and feeling so weak and not been able to eat. Starting to think this is food poisoning or C diff.

No I've been meaning to get the flu jab but I've been unwell every time it's offered at work so need to be well to have it.
Not interested in getting the covid jab. I've had covid about 3 times now.

Have u done a Qfit test / poop test ?

Been checked 4 bowel polyps ?

Elisabeth3468 · 06/01/2024 17:12

@worldwidetravel2017 yes done FIT test and was negative and another stool sample to test for other things (months ago). I've had a colonoscopy end of November and it's all normal and the biopsies were also normal.
I do have regular diarrhoea but doesn't make me feel unwell and nothing like this "bug" I've got at the moment. I've been drinking loads of fluids and electrolytes to keep myself well but feel extremely weak, considering I'm only 27 years old I'm falling apart. Never used to feel like this before my son (he's 2).

Not had a gastroscopy . That's the next stage I think. Coeliac disease runs in my family. The blood test was negative but the only true way to find out is biopsies of the small bowel.

worldwidetravel2017 · 06/01/2024 17:27

How recently have they done full blood count and b12 and feretin - id request them all done againn/ very recently too

Have they tested your liver function?

Octavia64 · 06/01/2024 17:28

If you have regular diarrhoea it is likely that there is something going on.

Could be an intolerance or something else but very much worth exploring.
