How can I make myself feel healthier ??

At the moment, I constantly seem to feel just on the edge of being ill, always slightly queasy or off colour, or got sniffles, which never turn into something.

I feel knackered and drained 99.9% of the time, and seem to be putting weight on when I am trying to lose it , although I do eat more crap of late.

I just want to feel normal again, whatever that is.

Stop eating crap
Take a walk. Take two or even three walks
Lay off the booze
Go to bed earlier
Turn the tv off

totaleclipse · 17/03/2008 16:50

Have your thyroid checked

TE, have you been talking to my mother ?/ She suggest that every time I see her LOL.

Moondog, I walk to school and back twice a day so in total about an hours walk.
I also don't drink that often, about 2 glasses of wine, once a fortnight.

Fruit and veg I do need to do better with yes, but I find it so boring.

I sleep about 7 hours a night, is that not enough then ?

Seriously, I could have written your ost, I have an underactive thyroid and feel like that most of the time, but then I never remember to take my medication

moondog · 17/03/2008 16:55

How can you find fruit and veg boring???

CrackerOfNuts · 17/03/2008 16:56

Well it does run in my family TE.

I also have terribly dry skin and get slighty depressed alot.

I suppose I should get it checked really.

Well fruit and veg doesn't taste as nice as a pizza for example

I do eat veg pretty regularly, but don't eat fruit at all lately.

moondog · 17/03/2008 16:58

God,pizza will do yuo no good at all.All that refined flour and grease. Yuck.

Lovely fruit salads
Muesli with youghurt and blackcurrents
Stirfries
Salades with nuts and seeds

You need to get inventive.

totaleclipse · 17/03/2008 16:58

all symptoms of underactive thyroid

CrackerOfNuts · 17/03/2008 17:00

I don't like half of the stuff on that list Moondog. Can do the salad and stir fries.

I know I must try harder, I am lazy and lack imagination when it comes to food.

I am also starting to suffer with IBS and I am sure this is due to my crap diet of late.

OP posts:
moondog · 17/03/2008 17:01

Oh well,there you go then.
You will continue to feel crap if you eat crap.
What do yuo normally eat in a day?

rebelmum1 · 17/03/2008 17:03

Change your diet, you might have a food intolerance. I'd cut out bread. I'd definitely not drink too if that's how you feel and I would for sure start juicing and having smoothies and doing regular exercise. Going for a walk should never make you feel more more tired just energised

iron can make you constipated I'd avoid a supplement without a test first.. go to GP and check there's nothing obviously wrong first.

Ambi · 17/03/2008 17:13

Water is magic, if you wake up in the morning feeling exhausted (like I used to) it's because you're dehydrated. Drink a pint of water before you go to bed and you should wake up fresher. That's my only tip though cos I'm not all that healthy myself.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/03/2008 17:25

Bread is my biggest biggest problem.

I'm doing dinner right now, but will come back afterwards and post a typical couple of days of my diet.

Dinner tonight is Salmon, new pots and mixed veg, but thats about as healthy as it'll probbaly get all week.

Right here goes, please don't shout at me.

Can only remeber so far back, so will start with Friday.

Breakfast - 1 bowl of Rice Krispies with semi milk, 1 cup of tea with 1 sugar.

Lunch - 2 mini baguette rolls with tuna and cheese. Cup of tea as above. 1 packet of crisps.

Dinner - Salmon in some crumb thingy, cauli cheese (with extra cheese) and mixed veg.

2 glasses of wine

Another packet of crisps
---------

Saturday

Breakfast - 2 pieces of wholemeal bread toasted with marmalade, Cup of tea

Lunch - Tuna, salad, bean thing. Cup of tea

Dinner - Pizza (alot of) and garlic bread.

Probably a couple more cups of tea too.
----------

Sunday

Breakfast - Bacon and egg sarnie x2 , cup of tea

Lunch - Hmm Pack of crisps, 4 choc biscuits (kids weren't here).

Dinner - Pizza again

Oh and a flake
--------

Today

Breakfast - 2 slices of white toast with butter, cup of tea.

Lunch - 3 crusty ham cobs, with a cake to follow. Cup of tea

Dinner, as i said above, salmon with new pots and veg. Glass of apple juice.

So thats that, it's bad isn't it, and the rest of the week was no better, as it included cheesy mash, with loads of cheese, and cheese on toast.

Has my awful diet scared you all off ?? LOL

OP posts:
moondog · 17/03/2008 18:25

That is fucking awful Cracker.

All thos refined carbs.

Guaranteed to leave you feeling sludgy and lethargic

CrackerOfNuts · 17/03/2008 18:45

ROFL

Was expecting that reaction tbh.

I am addicted to bread though, I kid you not, I cannot leave the stuff alone. I have to have it in the house as the kids eat it. Although only of a weekend. I suppose I could ban it in the week.

So come on then, what do I need to do to fix this, apart from see my gp for a thyroid test.
