Potential tonsil cyst

just looking to see if anyone else has experience the same issue, I suffer a lot with tonsillitis and also tonsil stones when checking my mouth the other day I come across this large what looks like a cyst under the skin on my tonsil full of puss.
Never experienced any tonsil cysts before

I have had antibiotics which haven’t cleared it, and I have now been referred to ENT which my appointment is on the 12th January a two week referral to get it seen to or else I would be waiting for at least 18 months.

My anxiety is really high at the moment, and I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice?
I have no pain whatsoever it’s not causing me any issues with eating or swallowing.

Thank you 😀

I have one exactly the same. I have been leaving well alone. It doesn't seem to be getting any larger so I am hoping it will ho away with time?

I hope you can get some reassurance/treatment with your appointment.

That looks like a massive tonsil stone. I get them too, but not this big. I usually poke it with washed hands and instant relief!

Sillsley · 03/01/2024 04:44

Thank you, never had one of these before get a lot of stones but never a cyst type thing. Just hope it pops itself soon 👌

Sillsley · 03/01/2024 04:45

It’s definitely not a stone as not on the surface, tried to remove but don’t work

GlamMa · 03/01/2024 09:26

I have one like that - will try find a photo as it looks exactly the same

Has never caused any bother

Sillsley · 03/01/2024 09:48

Since 2018

Sillsley · 03/01/2024 12:41

@GlamMa wow I like to hope mine don’t last that long, have you been checked by GP?
did you find a photo?

I found my picture but it's really crap compared to yours. I think I must have a massive tongue and uvula because you can barely see the back of my throat 😂

junebugalice · 04/01/2024 17:45

@Sillsley i have almost the exact same thing as you at the moment! Like you, I can be a bit anxious regarding my health, and one day while looking at my tooth I noticed it (why did I ever bloody look 🙈). Anyway, it’s painless but I’m just aware of it now. I had an appointment with an online doc who said it looks fine but has referred me to ENT but this was back in sept and I’ve heard nothing. I’m hoping it’s just one of the those things that will eventually just disappear.

Sillsley · 04/01/2024 19:00

@junebugalice anxiety is real rubbish always think the worst… please do message me if you ever want to chat..

well I got a referral from dr a 2 week one just so I can get seen quicker because my anxiety is so bad and for peace of mind, so have an appointment next Friday 12th with ENT so let’s see.

maybe call your GP and chase or chase ENT

x

@GlamMa oh ok so you can see it on the photo then, have you had it checked out?

OP posts:
GlamMa · 05/01/2024 08:03

No one seems worried about it - the GP took a look and wasn't concerned and it's just sat there for years

Sillsley · 05/01/2024 10:24

@GlamMa suppose that’s a good thing they aren’t concerned, must be more common than we think x

Check out tonsil Quincy. Could be that

GlamMa · 05/01/2024 13:33

Tried to get a better picture. Mine is lower down than yours. It's also white/yellow-ish but you can't really see that in the picture

Excuse giant mouth Grin

Sillsley · 05/01/2024 14:04

Oh yes it’s the little lump, yes you can’t really tell it’s yellow in the photo.
What did ENT say yours was? X

OP posts:
Sillsley · 05/01/2024 14:05

@babasaclover I believe if it was Quincy as that’s a abcess you would be in a lot of pain and discomfort which I am not x

SingingSands · 05/01/2024 14:38

Quinsy is agony, you'd definitely know!

Looks like a wee cyst just living its best cyst life tucked away in a cosy corner of your mouth @Sillsley! It will probably hang around a while before going - my daughter had one for a couple of years.

GlamMa · 05/01/2024 16:15

@Sillsley some sort of cyst. I often have bad sinuses and a runny nose and that's one of the causes of them apparently

Sillsley · 05/01/2024 16:46

@GlamMa oh really I thought I read up somewhere that it due to blocked ducts or something..

I have noticed I have been getting lots of phlegm x

OP posts:
Sillsley · 05/01/2024 16:53

@SingingSands did your daughters looks like mine, did she see ENT x

OP posts:
SingingSands · 06/01/2024 01:39

Yes it looked like that. No, she didn't see an ENT, but she had been hospitalised for quinsy and then the cyst appeared a couple of months afterwards. She was really run down before the quinsy and usually gets tonsil trouble when she's like this. Have you been run down recently? The tonsils are a bit of a health traffic light system.
