Dental implant

Has anyone has dental implants and if so, how much did they cost and was it painful / protracted process?

I lost a few teeth in my mid-20s due to a face injury and have had a denture since. I'm just wondering if it's time to upgrade!

All sounds very positive. No plans to go abroad. Think I'll line up a couple of consultations and see what they have to say. Thanks all. Glad you're all happy with your teeth!

I went to Poland for my implant - loads of people from the Uk went. Dentists spoke good English and it was half cost (including my accommodation / flights). Feel free to PM for any details of where I went.

Thank you for explaining. I had my 2 teeth out a few months ago after failed root canals , huge cyst removal and extensive infection. Currently implants impossible due to bone loss, even bone graft isn't possible, i have an appointment in 10 months to see if ther is any progress so i am gathering information, didn't know 2 teeth on one implant were possible.
^* kirinm sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread

Same situation here. I'm 18 months in now since first op which was a cyst removal. It left a huge gap of bone loss so that was the first step to have it replaced. They can take bone from your hip, as artificial bone is only for smaller fills. I had the option of cadaver bone too, but opted against that. I also had to wait to see if there was natural regrowth, but it was too severe.

My first graft and one implant failed so it's been a bit more of a lengthy process.

I will have 5 teeth on 4 posts sometime in the next few months. They are all front top teeth, and I loathe the denture so it cannot come too soon.

Wishing you luck on your journey. It's ridiculous how something small (mine started as abcess) can create such havoc.

Mine abscess was caused by a root canal as well. I will never ever consider one again.

I've had a bridge for a long time. I looked at implants but for me it would be over a year long process involving bone grafts, braces and I couldn't face it. I've lived with my bridge a long time and I'm used to not eating apples etc

Thanks for the responses! I will need 3 and they are front teeth so very obvious. Probably irrational but one of my biggest fears is them breaking or falling out and being toothless even if temporarily.

I've got an appointment to discuss implants in a couple of weeks but don't know the dentist. I don't suppose you had treatment in London? If so, do you have recommendations.

Yes I'm about to go and get a quote at Bow Lane dental because they were so good when the infected tooth needed urgent removal. But it is definitely not going to be cheap.

kirinm · 26/01/2024 18:07

@Switcher my quote / action plan is about £7k. 2 implants and a bridge but I need other dental treatment first and that is costing the best part of £1k! I had no idea how expensive private dentistry is.

About 4k for two teeth, this was about 10 years ago. Twelve weeks after titanium implants they fitted the teeth. I think the technology has moved on now.
I was worried about it but the results are fantastic and I wish I’d had it done years earlier.

Switcher · 26/01/2024 18:16

@kirinm wow that's a lot! I've ended up with some extra expenses so am putting it off now.
