What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Apart from labour

I’ve had some pretty nasty migraines that were more painful than my 2 c section recoveries!

What’s the worst pain you’ve ever been in & how long did it last?

I tore my hamstring last year getting on a horse - I heard it pop. Nearly fainted from the pain and it lasted for several hours until the ambulance arrived.

Horrace · 06/12/2023 14:13

Some of these are making me feel faint.

For me, gallstones has been pretty bad but I would say my migraines are worse.

I'd rather childbirth to migraine any day.

boohooloo · 06/12/2023 14:26

Appendicitis - ouch!

Bookist · 06/12/2023 18:19

Thanks to an oversight, I was left with absolutely no pain relief for several hours (except paracetamol) after my c-section. There are no words.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/12/2023 19:02

@OhHowTheDogsStackUp That sounds really shocking. I hope you've made a good recovery Flowers

itsgettingweird · 06/12/2023 19:03

Infected nerve in my tooth.

I told 111 at 3am after 3 days of no sleep they'd put a dog down if they were in such pain.

It's was out before 9am!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 06/12/2023 19:22

A fall that resulted in a dislocated shoulder, fractured clavicle, torn labrum, torn rotator cuff, and severe bruising.

Was about 6 weeks of excruciating pain any time I moved, and I've never recovered anything close to decent mobility or strength in that arm/shoulder. The labrum still complains like buggery decades later, and if I ignore the twinges and carry on using the arm it invariably ends in me doubled over clutching it. Fun times.

I have, thank you! 🌺

Once they yanked out the coil, I was on the mend. But it was weeks and weeks before I could walk without being in loads of pain.

They showed it to me once it was out. It was black and looked mouldy. Absolutely vile 🤮

The early days of scoliosis surgery recovery - 14 screws and 2 30cm metal rods in my spine!

Jakers my scoliosis causes me so much pain at times, but that surgery sounds agonising

@justasking111 The first few days were awful but after that you’d be amazed at how fast your body recovers! Most daunting but 100% best thing I’ve ever done. I used to get so much pain with my scoliosis and surgery pretty much got rid of it. 5 years post op and no regrets at all

porridgeisbae · 06/12/2023 21:46

@MaloneMeadow Glad to hear it. Your scoliosis must've not been good for them to suggest surgery, they don't often do that.

@porridgeisbae More often than you think to be honest! Poor DD has taken after me and also had the surgery last year, she’s one of 3 girls in her year group to have it done. Seems to be becoming more common these days but consultants can’t figure out why!

porridgeisbae · 06/12/2023 22:45

I thought they only did surgery for scoliosis if it was effecting the person's breathing.

MaloneMeadow · 06/12/2023 22:52

@porridgeisbae No, they do it if the curve is 50 degrees or above which is at the point where the curve has potential to progress further and cause breathing issues etc later in life. The idea is to avoid that happening in the first place

Pancreatitis.

Regular sufferer due to hormone fluctuations.

Horrendous.

MeinKraft · 06/12/2023 23:12

Ovarian torsion.

vipersnest1 · 06/12/2023 23:13

Piriformis syndrome - similar to sciatica and I couldn't put any weight on one leg for two days without a walking stick to help.
Having an ENT doctor try to remove a grommet that was stuck to my eardrum with forceps - he tore a hole in it.
Having vaginal packing (following prolapse surgery) removed and it was stuck to the wound.
Two stitches to repair a tear after DC2 with no anaesthetic in that particular area (the anaesthetic worked for the others).
Steroid and anaesthetic injections into the joints in my lumbar spine (you're not supposed to be able to feel it - I did!)
A brutal flexible sigmoidoscopy with no effective pain relief. I can't say any more as I will get too upset.
I have fibromyalgia so my reaction to pain is abnormal (I could add others but those are some of the ones I easily recall).

LoveTheDarts · 06/12/2023 23:48

An arterial aneurysm dissect and haemorrhage

ToughTitty · 07/12/2023 07:10

Breaking my nose badly, then the doctor trying to manually put it back in place (thought I was going to die it was so painful) and that not working and having to have an operation to re break it and reset it

It caused so much pain and no one seemed to care so I actually walked out the hospital and got someone to pick me up because I was in screaming agony!

Haggisfish3 · 07/12/2023 09:44

Ong these tales are absolutely horrific.

alltoomuchrightnow · 07/12/2023 17:02

allthegoodusernames,
I think my gallstones were mumsnet diagnosed too.
Which prompted me to get x-rays proving it.
Over three years on still waiting to have the gallbladder out!

FatFatMary · 07/12/2023 17:48

Looks like I spoke too soon, I still have the migraine going on about 4 weeks now

MadisonAvenue · 13/12/2023 16:25

CrushingOnRubies · 04/12/2023 23:18

Kidneys stones and the wind I had a week after I had my spleen and gallbladder removed

The headache I had last night was pretty intense too

@CrushingOnRubies I can relate to that. I also had my spleen and gallbladder removed (due to Hereditary Spherocytosis) and the wind pain over a week afterwards was excruciating.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/12/2023 17:53

@MadisonAvenue I have HS too which is why I had the op. Worse than the actual op that’s for sure
