What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Apart from labour

I’ve had some pretty nasty migraines that were more painful than my 2 c section recoveries!

What’s the worst pain you’ve ever been in & how long did it last?

Trigeminal neuralgia. Several attacks a day and at nighttime for 4 months. Now in remission. I hope it never returns but have been warned it may. I honestly wanted to die.

Recovery from a haemorrhoidectomy of 4-5 giant thrombosed piles. The surgeon warned me I would be cursing his name, and he was right.

Absolutely horrific recovery, not helped by being 34+ weeks pregnant with TWINS. The agony of going for a poo was truly awful. I had to run a bath first and scream my way through it, jump into the bath immediately. Blood everywhere. And that was with oral laxatives! It took 6 months to get back to something like normal.

My two C-sections were a walk in the park by comparison.

I have 3;

Emergency forceps delivery without any local anaesthetic. I thought my insides had been pulled out.

Cracked tooth with an exposed nerve. I cried all weekend until I could phone the dentist on the Monday morning. The relief when he pulled the tooth out.

Steroid injections into my big toe and second toe. The joint is very deformed due to arthritis. First of all the dr couldn't get the needle into the joint as it was so tight. I howled with pain as he poked about. He then couldn't get the needle out as it was stuck.
Once he managed to extract it, he started on my second toe. I will NEVER have steroid injections again.

Just remembered another one.

Having covid and flu jabs into my frozen shoulder. I couldn't have them in other arm due to previous cancer.
The pain was excruciating. I threw up instantly. It took the best part of a week for the pain to calm down. Frozen shoulder is bloody awful.

@MadisonAvenue I have HS too which is why I had the op. Worse than the actual op that’s for sure

Edited

@CrushingOnRubies Oh definitely worse! I had my op in 2002 and it was open surgery (got a delightful 7” scar) but my son had laparoscopic surgery when he had both removed six years ago and he had such a better recovery. I was in hospital for a week afterwards, five days after his surgery he was at a Christmas Market with us.

Copper coil insertion. I must have a tight cervix because that coil being inserted through the cervix was sheer agony. Like a red hot poker.

There are two types of pain l have experienced that are worse than childbirth (l have three children). The first was when I was thirteen and had an abscess in my ear which burst. I can remember crying with pain, which was very unusual for me as I have quite a high pain threshold. The other one is kidney stones and infections, which I have had three times now. This particular pain is excruciating and makes me violently sick. I have always lived in an area with extremely hard water and kidney problems seem to be more prevalent in such areas.

I have read every message in this thread. I wish I hadn’t!

CrushingOnRubies · 14/12/2023 18:53

@MadisonAvenue they tried to do my op laparoscopically but my spleen was bigger than they thought so I needed up with a mixture of open and keyhole wounds.

I also had my operation around Christmas time and I was determined to eat a full Christmas dinner less than a week later. Still haven't quite forgiven my parents for insisting the operation was in the school holidays

WhingeInTheWillows · 28/02/2024 06:12

I had UAE (uterine artery embolisation) for fibroids. The surgery part was ok, but the stomach pain over the next few days was awful. It was worth it for the results though.

shearwater2 · 28/02/2024 06:26

Toothache with an abscess. Stabbing pain all across stomach from infected chickenpox spot as a child. I think both were worse than two (fairly standard) vaginal births, but it's hard to say with so much time in between.

Previous survival scar starting rupturing during labour before I'd had any analgesia🤯

Severe cluster headache which were untreatable by any drug whatsover and went on for days. No drug they hlgave me in hospital ever touched it.

As we speak in waiting for surgery on Monday to try to treat extensive starting and adhesions in my abdominal/ pelvic cavity caused by previous endometriosis damage.i have not slept even for five minutes in the past 2 days due to the pain ( even though bl I'm drugged to the max on hardcore stuff). I can barely walk now and every step I do take is cripplling agony. Tonight has lasted forever it feels. It's far fast eorsese than the lalbourr scar incident. I never thought I'd willingly sign up for surgery but t can't come fast enough!

Mastitis and breast abcess. All of my breast tissue from my ribs to my armpit hurt and I struggled to move.

Threeboysadogacatandakitten · 28/02/2024 07:25

Dry socket following a horrendous extraction by a dental student at the training centre. He pulled so hard I thought decapitation was imminent and it bled for 4 days.

Completely agree and unlike childbirth, there is no gift or joy at the end of it.

Firstshoes · 28/02/2024 07:37

Shingles on my right side. Felt like my ribs had been smashed with a hammer. Left numb on that side now. Awful illness

JustDoneItNow · 28/02/2024 12:41

CRPS in my hand after surgery, twice🙄

Borntobeamum · 28/02/2024 15:16

I’ve had 3 children and the pain of those was nothing compared to when they try and do a colonoscopy on me.
Even with full sedation, it’s absolutely agonising.
(Colon cancer means I have them regularly)

were all different, I found colonoscopy fairly easy and childbirth was horrendous

PawsisShady · 28/02/2024 18:55

It was a herniated disc with cauda equina but I'm changing that to endometriosis pain

alifetimeago1 · 28/02/2024 19:02

Nipple clamps.

ScabbyHorse · 28/02/2024 19:31

Dislocated elbow was the worst

BG2015 · 28/02/2024 19:36

Endometrial ablation.

Never experienced pain like it.

And....it didn't work. Hysterectomy 6 months later.

maeveiscurious · 28/02/2024 21:53

Sepsis

stoppedwindows · 28/02/2024 22:26
