Bodypump exercise classes - whaddya reckon?

Now ds2 is at Kindy twice a week and I am forbidden to hang around outside the classroom pressing my bosom to the glass I need something to do with my time.

There's a Bodypump class on at the rec centre in the morning. I'm quite fit and OK at weights but hopeless at and quite frankly affronted by chirpy mass dance routines and "grapevines" and the like. I understand Bodypump is a syndicated thing and the same the whole world over.

Have you been? What's it like? Did it get rid of your jelly belly?

depends on what you are in to. it is good for toning etc but i still prefer pilates.

suzywong · 12/03/2008 13:24

I'm in to not being a big lard arse, I have my yoga for flexibility and the like ... have you done it?

Oliveoil · 12/03/2008 13:24

never heard of it, but why don't you go to one and report back

OrmIrian · 12/03/2008 13:24

I loved it. It's great if you don't do any other CV work.

suzywong · 12/03/2008 13:24

when are you coming to Perth, OO?

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 12/03/2008 13:24

I don't do any exercise, I need to Make Time For Me

Joolyjoolyjoo · 12/03/2008 13:25

I used to do it and loved it- really good for toning up! Hard work, but good results!

suzywong · 12/03/2008 13:25

OI, does it involve lots of dancey steps?

Flier · 12/03/2008 13:26

No dancey steps at all, it is all weight-based and focuses on each of the main muscles groups in turn, same order each week. From memory (I am lapsed, did go for ages though and loved it) it was squats, lunges, shoulders, bench presses, biceps, triceps and back. All either standing more or less on the spot or lying on the bench.

OrmIrian · 12/03/2008 13:28

Not as much as step or aerobics. There are some moves that are similar but they tend to be less dancey and you do them carrying weights. And you stop and run around the gym or on the spot for a bit. You do use a step for some things. Plus sit ups, press ups etc.

But no, no grapevining or similar poncing abaht!

SheherazadetheGoat · 12/03/2008 13:28

i was bored tbh. pilates is teh only thing that has even touched my jelly belly.

Oliveoil · 12/03/2008 13:28

sorry not normally pendantlike but my god that was a blinder.

there always seemed to be a handful of competitive grunting men that had spilled over from grunting in the free weights room. mind you they are only marginally worse than the grey ponytail lot that hang out at yoga and pilates.

OrmIrian · 12/03/2008 13:32

I hate to mention this again (I've bored for hours on this subject already ) but the only thing that has really and effortlessly toned me up and helped me slim down is running regularly. I've done the lot in terms of excercise, and dieted on and off for years but since I started running I've gone down a dress size.

Oliveoil · 12/03/2008 13:32

ooooooooooooooooo, get her

SheherazadetheGoat · 12/03/2008 13:33

oh yes running. i have hurt my back and can't run atm and can feel myself gently swelling.

Oliveoil · 12/03/2008 13:33

that was to SW btw but you can have it as well if you like
