@snickersandmarsandbounty Was you being sick or feeling sick the whole time? X

I have had it several times although not since 2014. The first time was the worst and I ended up on a drip because I was so sick I couldn't keep water down. I was left with hearing loss and now wear hearing aids. I had anti biotics one time but really the only thing is to lie down (for days if necessary) and ride it out. Stemetil helps the sickness.

DD had this a few weeks ago. She felt that the room was constantly spinning, was nauseous and as well as this her eyes were moving on their own due to miscommunications in her ear. took her to a private GP who gave her a sedative which worked wonders. 5 days of antibiotics cured things thankfully!

Was she tested for BPPV? The eyes make me think it's likely

Vertigo

Vertigo is a symptom, rather than a condition in itself. It's the feeling that you, or the environment around you, is moving or spinning.

Yes - all signs pointed to labyrinthitis. We had an ENT opinion on site that day as the nystagmus was particularly distressing DD (one of her friends has it congenitally and very severely so she was worried she was developing it like her🙈) and the GP hadn’t really seen it before. He confirmed the diagnosis and said that the eyes pointed more to that than BPPV.

Choconuttolata · 13/11/2023 14:26

Hi Starrrz, yes the GP referred me to ENT at the hospital who had a specialist audiologist run balance clinic who assessed me, completed the Epley Manoeuvre and gave me rehabilitation exercises.

susiedaisy1912 · 13/11/2023 15:20

Op you have my sympathy, I have labyrinthitis at the moment. It's vile. Been nearly a week and still feeling dizzy. Although the vertigo and nausea has passed. Feeling thoroughly fed up.

Starrrz · 13/11/2023 15:27

@susiedaisy1912 it really is isnt it! I hope your ok!! Did it effect your ears at all? I feel sickish sometimes but its eased alot.
when do you go back to work if youve been off? Xx

Starrrz · 13/11/2023 15:38

@susiedaisy1912 what caused yours? X

susiedaisy1912 · 13/11/2023 21:02

I've had a heavy head cold that has affected my ears. Gp said this is what would have triggered it. But I'm also going through the menopause and apparently it can become more common as you age. Never had it before.

Starrrz · 13/11/2023 21:18

@sunflowerdaisyrose oo i see! I had the flu just over 2 weeks ago. And before that i had my endo op! I wondered if my hormones had anything to do with it!! X

OP posts:
Makegoodchoices · 13/11/2023 21:22

Had it after flu - did some staying very still, then got bored of that and did a home version of Epley.

Still felt like cars were still moving after they had stopped for months. And I still can’t go on water slides or boats on choppy water without puking.

big sympathy to you, it’s crap!

Oohmontydon · 13/11/2023 21:29

Had it fir 12 months before being diagnosed. Was advised to do Cawthorne-Cooksey exercises and within 3 days, I felt better. I now do it if I feel it coming on again. Sorry can't do proper link but this is it.

DoveOfPiss · 13/11/2023 22:30

I had what was called bouts of labyrinthitis sporadically over the course of five years. I felt like my ears were permanently blocked, like when you land on an aeroplane and need to yawn.
It was only when I went to the GP with what I thought was hearing loss that she referred me to ENT.
I was eventually diagnosed with Menieres disease. I take a betahistine dihydrochloride tablet 3 times a day which mostly keeps the vertigo at bay. If I get overly tired or stressed, drink alcohol, it can trigger an attack.
When I have an attack, I have to just lie down in a dark room and sleep it off. Always vomit at least every hour for 5 or 6 hours.
I have tinnitus and severe sensorineural hearing loss in one ear and wear a hearing aid now.
I still don't know what caused it. The doctors seem to think it was a virus.

Starrrz · 14/11/2023 09:27

@Makegoodchoices it really is crap!! Im sorry you were suffering with it also.

I can't really remember but it felt very quick after what seemed like 12 months of hell.

Nandosplease · 14/11/2023 12:10

Oh you poor thing, I've had this multiple times and the only thing that really helped me was prochlorperazine which I was given a big prescription of - its the same active ingredient that is in Sturgeon travel sickness pills which are available over the counter so could be worth a try and see if it helps. Get well soon!

Starrrz · 14/11/2023 12:13

@Nandosplease aww how awful youve had it a few times!!!
does a virus bRing it on for you also?
how long do you start to feel better?
um due back monday and will be 2 weeks off work. Not sure what i should do.

I had it basket for four months when the DD's were little. At one point I could barely stand up. Now every time I get a cold or virus I get an ear infection. I've currently got one and absolutely awful tinnitus which I've had since I had covid but is worse this week than I've ever known it. Im terrified it won't go away again as it's dreadful.

Starrrz · 14/11/2023 12:35

@piscofrisco oo no!! Thats awful!! Are you on antibiotics atm?
my tinnitus started from a virus always gets worse when im ill then settles again after a while. Did it stay constantly for 4 months or started to ease?
the first few days i couldnt stand. Now im up and doing dishes etc but dizzy. And sicky on and off. X
