if you dont want to have anymore children then an endometrial ablation is great for heavy periods.

mirena coil

scorpio1 · 08/03/2008 20:32

mirena works!

CarGirl · 08/03/2008 20:33

mirena works but I do think it can affect your fertility. Yes going on the mini pill should help and there are pescription drugs such as transcemic acid that help too.

TooTicky · 08/03/2008 20:35

Some people find that using a mooncup can make periods lighter.

Nymphadora · 08/03/2008 20:53

Have had horomnal stuff before and not agreed with it but am desparate now. Just having v short periods (2 days)but pouring and yesterday struggled at work cos I kept having to go to toilet to change.

Had a coil attempted in summer (beofre I had this problem) and they couldn't get it in so not keen on mirena.

I went to the dr about this a couple of months ago now and they said either go on the pill or take tranexamic acid .... that and go for a smear test just to check all is ok! The tranexamic acid is really helping me ... def recommend it!

bramblebooks · 08/03/2008 21:58

I am having this problem and promptly told my Dr that I want a hysterectomy. He has referred me to a gynae.

Nymphadora · 09/03/2008 17:18

The heavy bleeding can be an indication of a polyp, fibroid or even infection. I would go back to your GP and discuss the next step.

I have been having v heavy periods for the past 6 mths and am waiting to see consultant (have had to wait 8 weeks for a private appointment!). The Mirena coil was mentioned by my GP. Taking ibuprofen can reduce some of the bleeding also. HTH

CarGirl · 09/03/2008 18:59

when I went with heavy periods I was sent for an ultrasound to rule out any reason as well as given tranexamic acid. When I was on the deepo injections they helped too but made me fat whereas the mirena coil hasn't affected my weight.

Once I'm 100% I don't want anymore dc regardless of the future I'm asking for endometrial ablation

Mirena coil is very good for heavy periods. The only downside is that it will take between 4-6 months to get your progesterone levels up to a rate that will help your periods.

I am really glad that I found this thread as I have this morning just booked an appointment to see my doctor about very same thing. Yesterday for example, I might as well have stayed sitting on the loo all day is was so bad - literally dripping and with lots of big clots (sorry if TMI). I must have got through a whole packet of super plus, plus lilets and pads as I was soaking through each set every half hour. Thank goodness it was a weekend - there is no way I could have possibly ventured outside of the house. Then today (officially day 2) - there is barely anything at all....

I have also been spotting every day since ovulation.

It's only been this bad since having DD2 and steadily getting worse each month. given that I'm 39 in a few months, I wondered if it was the start of the peri-menopause which in itself would be bad as I was just about to start talking to DH seriously about no 3.

Interested in the tranexamic acid though - so I might mention it on Thursday....

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 13:15

another mirena fan here...

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 13:15

also treid transeximic acid and progesterone orally. Neitehr as good in my case as Mirena.

Nymphadora · 12/03/2008 20:16

Def not infection, had masses of test + abs.

also had polyp removed and adhesions removed in Jan so not those.

Have appt for Monday & have persuded bf to go with me as I am having awful PMT and he can explain me better than I can.
