Horrible stomach bug - how to stop diarrhoea hurting so much on cut arse?

I’m in so much pain.

I am on the third day of shitting my guts out, and despite wiping gently, my arse is now bleeding and my anus is so, so sore.

I am sudocreming after each bowel movement but it doesn’t help during the actual poo. And I’m having movements 2-3 times every hour, sometimes more.

Can I do anything? Is there anything I can apply or eat or drink?

It is incredibly painful :(

Hope you start to feel better soon. I suffer from IBS so have often been where you are. Sudo cream does nothing but bring me pain .

I find biooil oddly the best. I think because the oil makes the raw skin not rub against each other. Aids healing a bit too for me. I know others won't agree but sometimes it's about what works for you and trial and error.

Yeah, immodium has not helped things - I think it just gave me bad gas and a false sense of improvement.

Pharmacist is a great shout - our local pharmacist is excellent, although always very busy. I haven’t risked going as I didn’t want to be away from a toilet for that long, but today could be the day!

Thank you all again for your kindness and advice.

Oh you poor thing!!! I haven't had a stomach bug (touch wood 🚪) for a while but I do suffer with irritable bowel and I know that painful arse splitting feeling! Hope you're on the mend soon Flowers

If you have a fissure you can't eat much while it heals. Go very careful for a few weeks.

Hrcg87 · 10/10/2023 10:14

Our LO had this bug, its horrific.

To drink A&E consultant recommended full fat coke mix half/half with water. Rehydrates you and settles stomach, worked wonders.

To eat plain boiled or baked potato, no butter.

Went to pharmacist. Melted in tears at her. I’m so, so exhausted and so sore. Tried to go to a baby class this morning (did I mention, I have a 3 month old and a 2 year old? Thank goodness DS1 is at nursery and, for DS2, that DH is amazing and has an understanding boss) and just melted on the way. I just can’t function.

Went to wonderful pharmacist and she’s given me some kind of oral resin to try, plus recommended to sip diaralyte through the day. She also explained that my anti deps and thyroid medication probably aren’t absorbing properly because everything is just going straight through, which won’t be helping my tiredness and sadness.

God this is so rubbish. Meant to be flying to Ireland solo with two babies on Saturday.

Sorry I feel like I’m being very dramatic. Sorry. Can’t really talk to anyone in real life - “I’ve got the poos and can’t function”

Oh you poor love Flowers

Graciebobcat · 10/10/2023 12:10

Sorry to hear you are so unwell. 💐

The problem with Dioralyte is it's absolutely disgusting. Smart Water is considerably more palatable and also contains electrolytes. I normally just drink tap water but DD2 found it quite useful after being unwell recently.

Treelesschristmas · 10/10/2023 22:31

Sorry haven’t read all the replies, but I find a squirt of baby lotion on toilet paper is a lot gentler than baby wipes if you are pooping a lot over more than a day. The baby wipes start to sting after a while too. Baby lotion doesn’t seem to . Sudocrem liberally applied after each loo trip gives a bit of a barrier for next time you go, and eases the stinging. Or a 50/50 mix of anusol and bepanthen cream. Hope it improves for you soon op.

Just a remimder that if you are on oral contraceptive, they are not absorbing either.
Nor do vitamins etc.

When you manage to get rid of this, order some pre and pro biotics, multivitamins, kefir and condoms.

I rate body shop hemp body butter for sore arse issues.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 11/10/2023 22:54

Thank you everyone again for your help and sympathy.

The magic stuff the pharmacist gave me is called Enterosgel. Stopped the bowel movements in their tracks. Mildly concerned that I now haven’t pooed AT ALL however and the box is quite clear that you have to see the doctor if you don’t go for two days after you start taking it. So I may be seeking advice for the opposite problem soon!

I think the main thing that was getting me down so much was probably that I have in effect been off my other medication, including strong anti deps. Hopefully that will now start to rectify itself. And thank you for the reminder on oral contraception too @Normalsizedsalad.

DS1 is having treatment for a nasty rectal condition at the moment which will last months. DS2 is in hospital tonight with DH as 111 told us to go urgently, as he hasn’t pooed in nearly two weeks.

As a household, we’re a bit shit at shitting.

thank you all again!

I can only imagine you have the best sense of humour, despite your poorlyness it shines through. Get well soon all of you, what a nightmare you are currently facing.

Enko · 12/10/2023 19:23

Have you eaten much yet @AngryBirdsNoMore ? As if you haven't there may not be much left to go with.

Pleased you are feeling a bit better and hope ds2 gets better soon.
