I have chlamydia, has my partner been unfaithful? :-(

Name changed for this.

A routine swab for a coil has come back to show a light growth of chlamydia. I have no symptoms. It's of course no problem as I now have a prescription for antibiotics. However, I have been with my partner for over 20 years and I have had no other sexual partner since meeting him.

We are still incredibly close and our relationship has been great throughout. I know chlamydia can lay dormant for years - but 20+ years??? Partner has never had symptoms.

I'm not sure what to do with this results in terms of my relationship 😢

they don't - and it's a massive issue particularly for BAME women where as we know pregnancy outcomes are poor with higher rates of complication and maternal and foetal death. Campaigners want it introduced.

How odd. Just today at Uni we were told in a lecture that they now routinely test for chlamydia in pregnancy because of the damage it causes. 🤔

They do. I was tested as routine in both of my pregnancies. In the UK.

Ok my info is from last gov review in 2018 - can't see any evidence that it's changed but great if professional practice has moved on. Is it on a trust by trust basis?

I agree, have it rechecked. If positive again, then yes he has.

Maybe. I'm mixed race and high risk so it might be part of a programme to prevent later issues.

Ah OP I’m so pleased to read your update, I had a feeling from your husband’s reaction that he was telling the truth!

Please give feedback to the GP surgery as they should use it to improve their results delivery so this doesn’t happen again.

Just an update - I have queried the result with the GP and I WAS GIVEN THE WRONG TEXT!!! My result for full STI swab screen was negative........

Poor husband is ok but a bit shaken. He didn't sleep last night with stress. What a stressful 24 hours!

That is shocking they have you the wrong results. Glad you waited though and spoke to your husband about it, rather than just kicking him out as half the posters said, as according to them he has definitely cheated no doubt at all!

You need to read the OP's update.

Glad to see your update OP. I was thinking, due to recent experience myself that I would always query anything given by text now. I recently had a text from my surgery saying that I needed to contact them urgently due to being diabetic and all my medication being out of stock and they were worried as I hadn't renewed my prescription yet. I don't have diabetes... called them and they'd sent it to 5000 patients in error

It’s maybe down to the health board/region. I certainly have been tested routinely in all 3 pregnancies, despite not changing partners etc.

chlamydia. has my partner been cheating.

me and my boyfriend were together for 3 years and were the only people we had been with. we then broke up in early 2022 and got back together in july 2023.

during the time we broke up he had one other girlfriend he had been with. the only other person he has slept with. i had multiple partners during this time but after the last one i had an sti test and this was negative.

my partner contracted chlamydia from his ex but had it cleared up instantly. he had a negative test after his round of antibiotics.

we have now been together 7 months and i have just tested positive for chlamydia. we were both negative and ive not been with anyone else.

could it have been the chlamydia he had last time lying dormant or does it sound like he’s been unfaithful.

he swore on my life he hasn’t and i trust him but there’s no other explanation

Wow what an amazing update! How stressful for nothing! Thank goodness you double checked

Fizzadora · 07/02/2024 22:40

Well I tested positive for it despite not having had sex for over 20 years so.....
