I have chlamydia, has my partner been unfaithful? :-(

Name changed for this.

A routine swab for a coil has come back to show a light growth of chlamydia. I have no symptoms. It's of course no problem as I now have a prescription for antibiotics. However, I have been with my partner for over 20 years and I have had no other sexual partner since meeting him.

We are still incredibly close and our relationship has been great throughout. I know chlamydia can lay dormant for years - but 20+ years??? Partner has never had symptoms.

I'm not sure what to do with this results in terms of my relationship 😢

Just an update - I have queried the result with the GP and I WAS GIVEN THE WRONG TEXT!!! My result for full STI swab screen was negative........

Poor husband is ok but a bit shaken. He didn't sleep last night with stress. What a stressful 24 hours!

That is shocking!! Awful in their part. I hope you put in a complaint. Poor husband and poor you. Good job you didn't just take it was 100% and checked.

Blogswife · 10/08/2023 20:42

Wow that’s awful Op. I’d be furious at the stress this has caused . Thank goodness you have a strong marriage .

Here is my suggestion: read the (not very long) thread or the last posts!

SD1978 · 10/08/2023 20:59

@Whatwillitbe23 it was an error with the surgery. She doesn't have it, and they sent N incorrect text......

Wtf!

Im at the same very relieved for you and really angry.
And tbh this is why you should never give that sort if results over a text. Much too sensitive!

Id put a complain in @Whatahassle123 .
They need to review their procedures, nit just around sending the right information to the right patient too…..

they don't - and it's a massive issue particularly for BAME women where as we know pregnancy outcomes are poor with higher rates of complication and maternal and foetal death. Campaigners want it introduced.

How odd. Just today at Uni we were told in a lecture that they now routinely test for chlamydia in pregnancy because of the damage it causes. 🤔

Doesn’t seem to be a routine screen for it during pregnancy

@Whatwillitbe23 I know you realise you posted without seeing OP’s update but fuck me if she remained in the original scenario this would be the worst advice ever. I am genuinely worried at your own low self respect and boundaries that you think this is a reasonable response.

mamaison · 10/08/2023 21:13

Oh what a stress for you!

I have had someone else’s GP text before. Not for a result but for a cancer investigation referral.

I was so confused and ran them in a panic. Apparently there were some similarities in our name and DOB. She wasn’t even from the same GP surgery as me but mine is administered as one of a group of surgeries.

I’m glad it was all resolved for you!

My aunt had several STIs while married to my uncle, who insisted they must have been dormant/false positives/picked up some other way. Turned out he was fucking around left and right. Sorry.

Read the updates Jesus. Some posters on here 🙄

Oh I’ve been with my husband for 10 years… does that mean I get a 0.5 indiscretion (just the tip!?!) and he should dress up and cook a fancy dinner for me as he gives me a ‘a pass’ and writes a diary?

Im delighted the OP’s situation has ended well but what an eye opener this thread has been as to how tolerant other people are about cheating.

And refuse to show any weakness to her husband?!

Hiddenvoice · 10/08/2023 21:43

Op I was going to post about it maybe being a mistake until I seen your update.

very similar thing happened to me. The doctor kept telling me I had an sti and asked if I had been with anyone else. I’ve been with my dh for 13 years and we haven’t been with anyone else. I was broken and calmly asked my dh about it. He reacted very similar to your dh and was more upset and concerned than anything else. We also got booked to get tested together when the gp receptionist phoned to say I’d been given the wrong results. The receptionist was so embarrassed and I couldn’t believe she was phoning me then the doctor. Safe to say the doctor was required to go through further testing and he does not come up as an option for me for appointments.
