Neck pain. Feel sick

Don't know what to do with myself. Supposed to be (well I am ) working bjt sitting at desk is agony. Seeing chiropractor next week. Taken ibuprofen. Applied ice but feel sick with pain. Any tips? Would you call GP and ask for strong painkillers ? Im I'm such pain. Radiating down my arm too. I've seen chiro Monday and I think it's because dog pulled me suddenly trying to get at a cat and this shoulder was previously dislocated. Argh. Not sure why I'm posting tbh. Just feel sick and alone and sorry for myself

Sounds horrible OP. Can you get acupuncture? That might help with the pain and recovery.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/07/2023 09:53

Also ask GP for Naproxen. If you have a local small injuries clinic go in there and they will assess you and can give you painkillers.

I'd stay well away from a chiropractor and get to a physio.. A chiropractor visit ended up with me in A&E last year, luckily the doctor was great and gave me Diazepam and Amitriptyline for the next pain (which worked amazingly). Told me the chiropractor had over manipulated my neck and basically gave me whiplash! Recommended physio instead which I have now and she's great.

frecklejuice · 20/07/2023 10:00

Point of that message was to say try going to urgent care, they will give you some muscle relaxants like Diazepam.

blackclouds · 20/07/2023 10:03

Thanks so much. Have a doc call about something else at lunch so may change it to "help. My neck is broken"! 😩😩

Definitely mention it to the doctor and see what they can give you.

My neck pain was so bad I just kept crying 😂 It affects every part of you and it also gave me the worst headache I’ve ever had.

A hear pack really helped as well and if you have a partner or a willing friend a really gentle massage just to try and loosen it might help.

Makes me shudder when I think back to how bad mine was! Good luck x

Im going at 3.45pm. I feel nauseous with it and the pain radiating down arm makes me feel faint. Im so pathetic. Thanks for the replies. This is when Mumsnet is good. I know it's not a medical helpline but sympathy and suggestions are great

I also agree with seeing a physio. Physio and acupuncture will really help.

LMNT · 20/07/2023 10:51

I literally feel your pain. I’ve got sciatica at the moment and have spent a lot of time crying with the pain.

Ask the doc for stronger pain killers and muscle relaxants. They’ll help until your can see your chiropractor.

blackclouds · 20/07/2023 21:41

I got naproxen prescribed but couldn't collect it as the nurse practitioner doesn't have prescription signing right and doc hadn't signed before i had to leave pharmacy 😏
Now got ice pack on. Had decent couple hours on liquid nurofen capsules but it's so so so sore again now. Can't get comfy. Don't know where to put myself and my arm is throbbing
I feel like a muscle relaxant would be amazing

OP, my utmost sympathies as a fellow neck pain sufferer. I vomit when I get my flares too. Try heat if it's more comfortable- can help reduce the spasms. Solidarity!

I actually retched earlier as it hurt so much. It was akin to when I dislocated my shoulder and couldn't get comfy except for hanging upside down with arm just dangling. Vile. I so wish I had stronger pain relief

It's getting worse. I can't sit/ lie without it throbbing and going down my arm. I just had a self indulgent cry 😭
I've got private health care. Would you try their Gp line tomorrow? Do you think diazepam or something might work ? DH said to go to a and e but it's not an accident or an emergency really. It's just shit 🤦‍♀️. Any ideas of how to proceed?

Pain at that level sounds like an emergency to me. Go quickly, before the pubs tip out.

WitchDancer · 21/07/2023 21:28

With that level of pain I would go to A & E. It's not something they will even question and you'll be able to get the relief you need.

Vapes1 · 21/07/2023 23:31

Where abouts on your neck is the pain?

Is this the first time you've ever had it?

Your OP sounds just like me when I get one of my migraines. My neck / base of my skull is so painful and I get ever so nauseous. I had no idea migraines could affect the neck and was astonished when a neurologist diagnosed chronic migraine.

Hopefully whatever it is eases up soon and you can get comfortable!

Friarclose · 22/07/2023 09:37

I have frequent bouts of this and Diazepam is the only thing that works for me

blackclouds · 23/07/2023 00:29

Made it through until lunch then it's been horrid. Called 111 2pm but still waiting for a call back at half past midnight. Self pitying tears had DH bumbling about unsure what to do at 11pm. Now in bed and hoping to cuddle my dog until o pass out. Taken melatonin and ibuprofen. It's crap.

blackclouds · 23/07/2023 04:04

I'm awake again and going to get DH to take me to a and e when he wakes up. It's just horrible.

I had terrible shoulder/neck spasms about five weeks ago. Totally incapacitated me. I booked a private Physio and had one session to be evaluated. She said Ice pack for spasm then heat at the end of spasm. I also had gentle neck stretches and shoulder stretches. A couple of days later I got a go appointment. GP gave me diazepam and co-codamol but said that ibuprofen would be better (I have gastric issues so avoid them though she gave me omeprazole for my stomach in case I wanted to try ibuprofen)
She slid said the meds are to support the work the physio will do - physio is the cure not meds.
A retired gp friend told me not to even consider a chiropractor as their neck manipulation can cause more harm than good.
I hope you get sorted today.

frecklejuice · 23/07/2023 08:26

Definitely get to the hospital they will be able to help, sorry you’re in so much pain.

blackclouds · 23/07/2023 08:36

Just had call
From 111 finally and they've said the treatment options are limited and a GP will be reluctant to prescribe anything stronger at this stage but I've been passed through for a call anyway. It's time for more painkillers at least so I can have another set. He also said to try and access a TENs machine which I'll look into.

OP posts:
blackclouds · 23/07/2023 15:37

TENS purchased
GP said to carry on with cocodamol and see doc tomorrow. Not sure why I'm updating. For a record of timings I guess as much as anything else. TENS is odd. Didn't have one for labour. Strange sensation

OP posts:
blackclouds · 23/07/2023 23:02

Going to try GP again tomorrow
Tens was very painful earlier and I am struggling to find a comfortable position. Couldn't watch tv for example as too uncomfortable. In bed now and faffing work pillow arrangements
