Neck pain. Feel sick

blackclouds · 20/07/2023 09:50

Don't know what to do with myself. Supposed to be (well I am ) working bjt sitting at desk is agony. Seeing chiropractor next week. Taken ibuprofen. Applied ice but feel sick with pain. Any tips? Would you call GP and ask for strong painkillers ? Im I'm such pain. Radiating down my arm too. I've seen chiro Monday and I think it's because dog pulled me suddenly trying to get at a cat and this shoulder was previously dislocated. Argh. Not sure why I'm posting tbh. Just feel sick and alone and sorry for myself

Oh OP, how utterly miserable. It's excruciating. Keep pushing for diazepam, it will help help unlock the muscle spasms not just dull the pain.

Mabelface · 24/07/2023 11:04

As you have private medical insurance, you can use the direct access service for muscles, joints and bones if it's available on your policy. Otherwise, use the private gp service to get a referral to a physio or whoever they recommend. No need to wait in so much pain.

nobody go to a chiropractor; at best useless, at worst dangerous.

I've had great success previously
Got osteopath friend looking at me later
Will see if she would recommend a scan and self refer if so. Two fingers and thumb now numb. I should have told them they were numb when I spoke to 111 but wanted to be truthful!

Osteo said she'd bet her car it is muscular and my body having an overreaction to the trauma and thinking I was about to dislocate again - dramatic? Moi?
It was so so sore. Too sore to lie down but she's given it a good gentle stretch and managed to free my rib too and it's fractionally better. She also advised a few days of good drugs and told me (as you guys did ) to ask for amitriptiline (spelling?!). Said to cry if necessary

Update for anyone interested is that I've now got tramadol and diazepam. A whole week later. I didn't take any pain relief before seeing GP and it's so sore now. Taken first 2 so hoping for relief (pls pls without side effects ) very soon

Hi op, so glad you have some strong medication now. Never taken Tramadol but the Diazepam should get everything loosened up 🤞🤞

blackclouds · 27/07/2023 18:22

Jesus. Just been in bed for 2 hours ! I almost threw up 2 hours after taking tramadol. Mouth watering / about to throw up but managed not to as had taken some anti sickness when I thought I felt a bit like I do when the wine kicks in and I have had too much 😵‍💫
It did help the pain but unsure if I should take any more. Maybe just one tablet and after eating this time. And diazepam at bed time. Has anyone any experience on tramadol anyone?

Sounds like craniocervical instability and ehlers danlos syndrome

alexdgr8 · 27/07/2023 18:43

beware of driving while taking tramadol

Pixiedust1234 · 27/07/2023 18:52

I can't take tramadol as it makes me throw up too, then I get the headache. It's like a reverse migraine. I was taking one a day and after three days I was stuck in the bathroom. No floaty nonsense for me.

Hope you feel better soon. Amytripline zombiefied me but that meant I slept (for hours) but you might be okay on that.

Luckily I had anti sickness meds and they helped the nausea go off so I might try just one tablet next time.

Had 6 whole hours sleep last night after 1 x tramadol and 2mg diazepam but woken up at 6,30 and felt nausea ever since. Retched a few times and pain is as bad as it's been. I am so so fed up
Got physio at 12.15
Osteopath says ask for nerve meds like gabopentin. I'm going mad here. Goodness knows how people work chronic pain cope. I feel pathetic and weak

OP posts:
Pixiedust1234 · 28/07/2023 13:37

You aren't pathetic or weak. You are in shock at the amount of unusual pain so be kind to yourself (and drink a sugary tea).

Be aware that gabopentin can cause horrible side effects in some people. Awful rage and weight gain similar to steroids, I had to come off it. Someone else i know had hallucinations.

I hope you get some decent pain relief soon Flowers

blackclouds · 29/07/2023 03:08

And I'm awake again. I think the diazepam / paracetamol relaxed me enough to sleep but perhaps not in a good position as my fingers are throbbing again. Now on sofa with cup of tea and book and MN. Risked another tramadol as it did make me sleepy
I just want to sleep and be away from the discomfort !

Once you've taken diazepam try some gentle massage of neck and shoulder if you can tolerate it. Have they given you guidance for a maximum dose of diazepam? I'd take maximum they've told you to take

They have me 9 tablets and said 3x a day but was working yesterday morning so only took last night. I guess could have another now. Got a cup of tea and ice pack on and reading my book in lounge for now while everyone asleep. Even the dog declined to come down with me and is cuddled up to DH. It's lonely

OP posts:
blackclouds · 29/07/2023 13:38

Come to urgent care to try and change meds. This is like a diary for me now. DH was rather horrible to me as he drove me here saying he told me to come last weekend. We decided to use 111 and not use a and e together and I started crying and cried again giving my details. He's left me here as he's going to football. Mum is having my younger son and dog no feel thoroughly pathetic

Sometimes it's better waiting alone as you can focus on what you want to say when it's your turn. If you have an app use this time to jot down notes.

Good luck, I hope the wait is short and the outcome is brighter Flowers

Fraaahnces · 29/07/2023 14:47

Whatever you do, do not have any chiropractic or manipulation treatment atm. I am suspect about your chiro. This sounds potentially neurological you you absolutely need to be seen. (Mention the numbness, nausea and tingling.) Tramadol is not for everyone. I hated it to taking paracetamol and ibuprofen.

blackclouds · 29/07/2023 16:38

Saw the out of hours gp and he said "tramadol is a very good medicine so I will give you anti sickness as well". That is is just a side effect and shrugged. Then said it'll take 6-8 weeks and dismissed me
I'm
Home alone now watching "and just like that " and trying to motivate myself to do anything

Sorry to hear about your pain OP.

You can get referred to a “consultant in pain management” under your medical insurance. I saw one due to excruciating neck pain and debilitating migraines.

Other things that help enormously are a Groove pillow (which provides amazing support in bed), a neck cloud (just off Amazon) and the only painkiller that works immediately is Excedrin Migraine (which is OTC from the US). Nothing I’ve been prescribed in the UK even comes close.

HP89 · 30/07/2023 04:00

Have you ever tried Bowen therapy? Total chronic pain life saver! I admit it is classed as ‘alternative’, but bloody food for MSK pain and you feel like a new person after 3 sessions. My therapist says they often get all the people who aren’t cured by physio/ osteo/ chiro as a ‘last resort’ and leave feeling amazing!!

Norachance · 30/07/2023 05:38

What did the physio say/do?
