Recall after very first Mammogram - I'm utterly terrified

Please help!
Had my first mammogram ever 2 weeks ish back. The lady said I may be called back as it was my first...and I have been.

I am completely terrified, I called the department and all they could say was they were checking my left breast.

I have always suffered with anxiety my whole life..and I had very bad health anxiety in my 20s.

So here I am...I can barely eat, I feel sick....scared to death. I cannot get a handle on my thoughts and fears...my appointment is Wednesday.

Please any words of any comfort if you have a moment to reply. xxx
THANKYOU x

All clear for me. They found a cyst but too small to worry about.

Great news, @MrTiddlesTheCat!
I wonder how @Pixiedust49 got on.

Had to have a biopsy but consultant said she’s 99.9% sure it’s nothing of concern. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

vipersnest1 · 24/07/2023 22:22

I'm pleased for you, @Pixiedust49. Smile

Thank you. I’m exhausted from all the worry

But sounds like very encouraging news! Will keep my fingers crossed. When do you expect to have the biopsy results?

I'm not surprised - I still am! Fingers crossed that you get results soon and they're negative.

My results too just under two weeks. I will warn you though, they terrified me all over again.

The department called me at 4pm on a Thursday afternoon. I hadn't got my phone on me so missed the call. They then called around 5 times in fairly quick succession eventually leaving a voicemail to call them back urgently. By the time I'd picked up the message the department was closed. With that many calls and that message I immediately assumed bad news tbh.

I was on the phone at 9am and after being passed about a bit told that it was calcification as expected and they'd see me for my next mammogram as usual.

I'm sure it would have been easier to call once, just say 'give us a call back, it's good news' rather than the way they did it.

@vipersnest1 Are you also waiting on biopsy results?

When I had my first one they said it was fairly common to be recalled because they have nothing to compare the first images to as they do with subsequent ones.

I was told this too . I was recalled and it was nothing to worry about. Good luck when you go for your appointment.

vipersnest1 · 26/07/2023 16:22

@GulfCoastBeachGirl, luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you view it) some of my pain is due to fibromyalgia and the rest is 'normal'. I did have mammograms and then an ultrasound. I was then sent on my way. I also found out that I have dense breasts which is useful information (it means mammograms can miss things in the breast) - I had never known this before.
I would say though, that this was twenty days after my referral on the NHS (they eventually called me in day 22) and by that point I was thinking all sorts - was it all in my head, was I over-thinking it, etc. in short, it was really affecting me, which is why I ended up going private.
I wish you and all of the other women on this thread who have worries the very best. Flowers

I forgot the most important bit - after digging around, I eventually found out it would be a six week wait for me.

All clear here. Can breathe again.
