So dd has been losing weight for a few weeks, is skin and bone. Size 4 uk size.

came out in a rash this morning which she reckons feels like shingles which she’s had a few times. But I don’t think it looks like shingles? It’s itchy. There is bruising over her legs for no reason. She feels generally unwell.

she’s been trying to get a gp appointment for over a week with no luck. Rang again today and they told her to see a chemist. Chemist has told her she needs to see a doctor. Still can’t get an appointment

anyone any idea.

What's her diet like - could she have scurvy (vitamin C deficiency)? Can cause petechial rashes & rash bruising.

You hit the nail on the head. She’s been sent home with a scurvy diagnosis. So glad it’s not more serious. Guess this is what happens when you feel so bloated all the time you can’t eat and the GP just prescribes heartburn tablet and refuses to believe that maybe she can’t eat because of her EDS!

I've seen scurvy once, in a youngster with a very restricted diet, and the rash looked like that. At least the vit C is easily remedied (if she'll take the supplements!!) but the eating is harder to improve.

Yes, she’ll take the tablets no problem and this is just as far as any “holistic” care goes. Take vit c tablets. 🤷‍♀️. She wants to eat, I don’t believe she’s anorexic unless it’s a subconscious thing. She says she wants to eat. But has so much gastro pain that she can’t. Not sure if it’s linked to her EDS or what, I know some people with EDS are tube fed. But then I feel like her GP will think I’m bonkers if I raise that. I’ve hinted at it before which is when she got prescribed the heartburn meds for her non existent heartburn. 😡

I have seem similar issues with a patient with coeliac disease where eating was so painful they became nutritionally deficient and were accused of anorexia

She does have coeliac disease…….but I don’t think gluten is causing her any pain. If she is unintentionally glutened, we know about it. Major vomiting and is ill in bed for 24 hours. So shes very strict and no incidents for a couple of years. Has all her own butter, toaster, etc.

I doubt they will have measured her actual vitamin C level. It is a very expensive blood test and rarely done on the NHS.
Was it her folate level they said was low??
I would hope that they measured her full blood count, clotting and general liver & kidney biochemistry as well as ferritin, folate and vitamin b12.

Do you know, I’m not 100% sure. She said they told her she has a serious vitamin deficiency. I asked which one, she said she wasn’t sure. I asked if they said vitamin c, she said yes. Now today she’s not sure. She was meant to ring the GP for an appointment today to sort out tablets but hasn’t…..so isn’t actually taking anything 🤷‍♀️
