So dd has been losing weight for a few weeks, is skin and bone. Size 4 uk size.

came out in a rash this morning which she reckons feels like shingles which she’s had a few times. But I don’t think it looks like shingles? It’s itchy. There is bruising over her legs for no reason. She feels generally unwell.

she’s been trying to get a gp appointment for over a week with no luck. Rang again today and they told her to see a chemist. Chemist has told her she needs to see a doctor. Still can’t get an appointment

anyone any idea.

I've had family with this. Swollen gums? Any cold like symptoms? She definitely needs a full blood count. It was leukemia this end, but caught in time and fully recoverable so don't panic, but don't qait around and ensure gp sends straight for immediate bloods, no wait.

Good chance it could be something else, but you can't risk it.

SimplyReadHead · 29/06/2023 21:09

If she was my daughter, I would pick her up and physically put her in the car and take her to A&E.

jojo2202 · 29/06/2023 21:14

low platelets and HGB levels. i had the same. Mine were so low i had to have a bone marrow biopsy. get her a full blood count

Walkacrossthesand · 29/06/2023 21:14

What's her diet like - could she have scurvy (vitamin C deficiency)? Can cause petechial rashes & rash bruising.

Please go to a&e with dd asap it sounds like sepsis or leukaemia don't want to alarm you bit if someone goes to bed as they don't feel well enough for a&e it rings alarm bells to me

OrlandointheWilderness · 29/06/2023 21:26

I'd say she really really needs to be seen tonight, her symptoms need looking at and it sounds like she is deteriorating.

CorBlimeyGovnr · 29/06/2023 21:29

Another vote for A&E

abbs1 · 29/06/2023 21:30

Please please get her to A and E or call 111 as others have said. She needs help ASAP. I hope she's OK.

Ejismyf · 29/06/2023 21:36

Id take her to a and e. Last Friday my daughter had a burn that became infected. Took her to the docs who gave antibitocs and said call back if she declines or go to and e by the time the pharmacist finally notified uusage prescription was ready late afternoon (handed in at 9am) she had started becoming really unwell, was cold and shivery, felt sick, diarreah, had a temp and the redness had spread rapidly I called the docs and got a different one who was rude and useless. Took her to a and e ans we were on a bed within 20 minutes and she spent the night getting iv fluids as the infection was spreading through her blood. My point is, trust your gut instinct and get her to a and e. Even more so that she's feeling cold and away to bed.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 29/06/2023 21:39

She’s got up and is making herself some pasta now and feels a bit better. 🤷‍♀️. So hopefully not sepsis. She has a gp appt at 9am and is adamant she can wait till then.

I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a lupus flare. She doesn’t have a diagnosis of lupus but she’s told the GP before that she thinks she has it, she has most of the symptoms. They did a blood test and it was negative but I believe you can have lupus with a negative ANA test. She has three other diagnosed autoimmune illnesses so maybe she has lupus as well.

Scurvy sounds a bit out there but possible. She can barely eat as she feels bloated and nauseous all the time and only manages a few mouthfuls of food a day.

She hasn't accidentally taken too many blood thinners has she ? just you mentioned she has run out ? Has she also run out of her other medications or does she get staggered prescriptions ?

No, she’s just disorganised about ordering repeat prescriptions. She’s been locked out the GP app for six months and hasn’t got round to going and trying to ask about access. She doesn’t take any other meds.

Dymaxion · 29/06/2023 21:58

Do you know if she has lost weight since she was originally prescribed the blood thinners ? The dose can be related to a persons weight.

Also common side effects of anticoagulants include stomach upset, loss of appetite, bloating. It might be worth having a chat with a pharmacist about the known side effects of the medication she is taking, because there might be another one that would suit her better if it is the cause of her loss of appetite and bloating.

Really hope she feels better soon. And if you are worried ring 111 Smile

What’s her auto-immune medical history, but really hard to say a lot without getting some idea of what’s wrong with her /meds etc

Cacaocookie · 29/06/2023 22:25

Will she let you come to the GP with her? I would write down a lost of all of her symptoms so that you don't forget anything. I would push for urgent bloods.

Coeliac disease
POTS
fibromyalgia
ehler danlos syndrome
had multiple unprovoked PE last year and is on thinners for life, all common bleeding disorders ruled out.

has been having bad abdominal pain/digestive pain for ages. Even before taking blood thinners. Struggles to eat. I did go with her to the gp last year about this and earlier this year and asked could it be down to her EDS as it really messes with some people’s digestive system. GP said she’s never heard of that and prescribed omeprazole……..🤷‍♀️. Which does fuck all. Dd doesn’t bother taking it. Refused to refer her to a gastroenterologist. She is 100% gluten free as not projectile vomiting.

I do think there’s something else going on with her and have for some time. But all GPs in the practice are very uninterested.

@HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas

id be checking on her regularly through the nigh & wouldn't hesitate to take her to A&E & if she's refusing then I'd call an ambulance.

hopefully GP will send her to hospital, that's where she needs to be & have someone different look at her & get results much more quickly.

all the best
xx

myyve · 29/06/2023 23:08

Please, take her to hospital. This doesn't sound good.

Dymaxion · 30/06/2023 07:33

Hope your DD was ok overnight ? Would she let you go with her to the GP appointment this morning ?

ILiveInAnAlternateDimension · 30/06/2023 08:49

your GP sounds useless, but I find that to be the case nowadays sadly

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 30/06/2023 10:14

Well she didn’t have an appointment. Turns out they told her to ring at 8am but by the time she got through the queue none left.

ive told her to go to the hospital and I’m waiting for a phone call from the practice manager

That's terrible from your surgery
When she goes to A&E make sure she mentions all her symptoms at the same time
Together they are concerning
