Just had another peek. (I'm at work today so being sneaky ...). They really ARE cuties, fp, you must be very proud of them when they're not yelling at you! LOL.

Festivepussy · 13/12/2004 12:18

I put that one there so you could see the demon that has been ever so helpful since my banshee like snotty crying fit Mink!
Oh Fiona, the amount of times ive thrashed through the dishes wiping snot off my face and banging them hoping they will break raging that dp is elsewhere with his feet up.
Mink, as you have a helpful dh give him a big squeeze from us will ya????!!!!
OMG that is my biggest horror, someone spewing at my house and me having to clear it up. NO NO NO NO NO NO.
When we were younger I used to demand that the person who was known for spewing everywhere had to sleep in the hall near the bathroom!!!!!!!!! It worked, only ever had to clear up a splodge that had ran down the side of the loo.
Do any of you like Maroon 5 BTW or an I clutching at straws? Ive been crooning along for about a month now and everyone but me is sick of the songs!!!
Tree and decos up here, chucked up on the 30th so nice and early!

OMG Bluemoon, even you noticed my hideous trousers. Noone but me likes flares it seems. I love them, even when they suck the puddles off the floor, I would still rather be in a comfy flarey pair of trousers than squeezed into anything else!

OP posts:
merryminkmama · 13/12/2004 12:34

no fp, i also love flares but i can never find a pair short enough for me...if i wore them i could either a) shorten them and then they'd look like drainpipes b) sweep up the whole of croydon

i wanted to get some of those really huge ones that 'skater' girls wear but when i wanted them i couldn't find them except in something like Tammy Girl and that's no good unless you're about 5yrs old. also, it was probably a good idea i couldn't find them as those labels are dead expensive...what kind of surfie can afford trousers for over £ 60? when i was a teeny size 8 i used to buy those long killababe skirts for £ 50. MAD. now i'm lucky if i treat myself to a pair of pyjamas Grin

bluemoon · 13/12/2004 13:15

Hideous? Hideous??? I LOVE flares. Dp calls me the flare Queen and is thoroughly disappointed if on the odd occasion I've sported something a little tighter to the leg.

The longer and flarier the better as far as I'm concerned Smile

Festivepussy · 13/12/2004 13:56

Excellent, it must be Tunbridge wells. I seem to get looks of pity or utter despair round here Grin
Ohhh Mink....do you have Littlewoods catolougue, they have got some really nice flares in there. age 13/14/15 that might fit. they are not skinny skinny round the waist either. I used to fit in them when i was a 10-12...now ive grew into my size 12-14s LOL!!!

OP posts:
fionagib · 13/12/2004 14:12

I love flares too, got some brown cord ones from top shop recently, v v nice! I LOVE top shop.

No mm, dh had kindly washed all the 'stuff' away and cleaned the shower before I hauled myself out of bed. Maybe he's not too bad after all... (mind you I have done that for him on several occasions....)

I love that pf, snot running down face while washing up!! Do you think we must look really MAD sometimes???

yeah, work/cut off day.... Am a bit of a workaholic but am finding it v v hard to write at night these days, at least anything that's not crap. My 'cut off' is when the kids break up next wed afternoon, will have to work thur night and that's that. Pretty much 2 weeks off, not through choice really (as I do love my job and getting some space from the kids) but cos they'll be around and work & kids don't mix! Actually I am a bit peed off with having so much to do, really do need a breather from it all. Just wanna relax with dh, have a lark with the kids, and avoid the PC (apart from to come on here of course).

Who does your dp write for bm?

my dd (age 4) has main part in nursery nativity on fri - she is the sleepy shepherd Smile
fp are you used to seeing all the mums blubbing at those kinda things?
xxx

bluemoon · 13/12/2004 14:37

Maybe we should call our next thread 'Non-Smoking Flare Fans United'?

Oh, I'll be a total utter snivveling useless wreck if dd ever appears in a nativity play. I'm like that now when she sings 'baa baa black sheep to me.' Actually I think I'm pathetically snivvelly because even at her playgroups when they do their little sing-song at the end I continually fill up with tears. I sneak a glance round at the other mums but nope, dry eyes.

fg, dp is A Philosopher. I say that with the full ironic respect such a name demands. He writes for philosophy magazines - some articles, lots of book reviews and he's got a book contract which he's supposed to finish by next June and is getting nowhere with ... Sigh ... It's a difficult world he's in, nothing like yours really I'd imagine except that it's to do with writing. The financial side of things in academia is rubbish and publishing is almost a means to an end in order to get a decent teaching job. And decent teaching jobs in universities are not far off a nurses wages these days (I know because my brother who's been nursing for about 12 years earns way more than dp). It's strange, I think people always assume university lecturers are loaded. If only ...

Festivepussy · 13/12/2004 14:44

Love the thread title Bluemoon!!!!!!!
Oh yes Fiona, but its lovely...its starts with a big beeeeeemmmmiiiingggg smile then the eyes well up and then the tears start and its lovely. Dont be too self concious it ruins the effect!
I am the worse, after id said "Grab and ice lolly/choccy/sweetie...whatever" to the kids yesterday DD1 opened the freezer and picked herself an ice lolly...that made tears well up as usually she will just stand there looking at me wanting me to do all the choosing and getting for her....
...and when she then opened the freezer up again and put it back to swop it for a sweet I couldnt help but laugh as she irritates the hell out of me by saying she wants this and that....I get it and she turns her nose up at it...well it was nice to see she even does that to herselfGrin

Festivepussy · 13/12/2004 14:46

Ohhh LOVE Top Shop, sadly have only ever been able to afford one pair of jeans from there, one...ever in my whole life...but I do have a lot of clothes from there that ive picked up for pennys from jumbles and charity shopsGrin

OP posts:
bluemoon · 13/12/2004 16:42

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the soppiest mum in town then. Sometimes I find myself just sitting there gazing at dd's profile and wanting to sweep her up into an enormous cuddle. But I know if I did she'd say 'gerroff mummy! I'm busy' Sigh ... Grin

fionagib · 13/12/2004 21:03

so glad you said that fp cos I KNOW I'm gonna be howling on friday. She has talked about it for weeks, it's so important to her. Am welling up right now just typing about it!

A. Philosopher. Blimey. And there I was imagining he trotted out stories for FMH or Heat or something!!

Have you noticed how little we talk about fags these days...? That has to be a good sign, right?

fionagib · 13/12/2004 21:04

I mean FHM....

Festivepussy · 13/12/2004 21:17

It is isnt it...??? Its good.

OP posts:
bluemoon · 13/12/2004 21:43

Yes, we're doing well aren't we? We only have a fag mention when we're suffering cravings or when we've been naughty ...

fg, it will be wonderful! I find it so touching how excited these little ones get about the events in their lives. And how magical their thinking is. Dd was with dp today while I worked and (being A Philosopher) they always spend large parts of the day reading books (surprise surprise Smile). Today he read Aladdin with her and when I got home from work it was to an excited 'Open Sesame!' from dd. Then when I put her to bed we could hear her little hands tapping the inside of the door saying 'Open Sesame!' and it seemed incredibly poignant that she couldn't 'magic' the door open ...

merryminkmama · 13/12/2004 22:53

just a quick one before i go off to have a bath and bed...

i was just remembering today how when i gave up whilst conceiving ds1 right up until i started again after ds2, i virtually never thought about a fag except when watching things like 'sex and the city' and i realised that i was actually happy being a non-smoker, feeling v. free and healthy. i've yet to reach that stage again though! but the point is, that one day we will all feel just as good because it is inevitable!

night night xxx

fionagib · 13/12/2004 23:02

I love that too bm, how their imagination runs wild. All my 3 have been obsessed with peter pan (vid not book - don't tell A. Philosopher!!) and became mad about pirates, flying etc...

great message to us mink! Yeah, we're all gonna get there eventually. I do still need a regular suck (!) on a mintie (about 8 a day) but feel fine, even though both ds's have been monstrous lately - nearly 8 yrs old as well! Hellish behaviour at pool today - splashing, screaming and fighting - made them get out early. Day ended better with story and cuddles, they're just v trying at the mo and very fighty with dd (who has awful temper and is lovely by herself but no angel with her brothers).

arrggh, gotta get off here and do some work!!!

fionagib · 14/12/2004 10:46

yey - have passed the 1000 mark - 1002 fags not smoked! Just had to share that with you girls as can't quite believe it after all the stop-start struggles of this year!
Hope everyone's fine today, f xxx

Festivepussy · 14/12/2004 10:47

Congratulations Fiona!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am busy posting off my ebay parcels swearing at the pc getting wrapped up in sellotape...

OP posts:
merryminkmama · 14/12/2004 13:14

thank god no one bought anything off me then fp

well done fg!!! by my calculations it will take me 5 months to reach that milestone!!!!

am doing xmas cards - does anyone else find those the most tiring thing out of pre-xmas activities?

bluemoon · 14/12/2004 13:33

Yay, fg!!!

I don't know how many I'm on now since I re-set the counter. I should check it now. I think if I hadn't had my misshaps I'd be on about 850 or so not smoked.

Took dd to a Christmas party this morning and she was terrified of Father Christmas! Despite days of her walking round rubbing her 'beard' and patting her tummy and saying 'ho ho ho' 'just like Father Cwismuss' the real thing left her a quivering wreck in my arms saying 'mummy ...' in her smallest voice!

merryminkmama · 14/12/2004 14:29

a lot of younger kids are quite scared off by the Big Man! Let's face it - they can probably tell that it's just someone dressed up as Father Christmas and quite frankly, some of the versions out there scare me

had the left overs of my curry from last night and decided to get rid of the smell with my incense only to have sniffed too much of it myself and consequently cannot breathe...

Festivepussy · 14/12/2004 21:23

Lots of deep breathing today, and i smelt every fag within 25 metres, but didnt make me want to chase after them just was aware...
OMG cant wait till Xmas is over..

OP posts:
bluemoon · 14/12/2004 21:26

Me too, fp. I'm not a Christmas person. I'm trying hard to be 'jolly' about it for dd's sake. This year's going to be hard as we have to go to stay with dp's mum outside Birmingham as his dad died last year over Christmas. Normally we'd go to my mum who's retired out by the coast. It's incredibly difficult at dp's mums, she's such an inflexible, hyper-critical German woman. This year in particular for some reason I just can't face her. This time next week we'll be packing up to go ...

Festivepussy · 14/12/2004 21:27

OH No...sounds like a hideous way to spend next week
