Please help me handle this pain

I’m desperate.
pain all along jaw and teeth.
dentist I saw last Wednesday said he could nt sort my tooth ( extraction or root canal ) for nearly 3 weeks.
I’ve rang 111 tonight after being beside myself with pain and crying like a baby. They have given me a number to phone tomorrow after 10am for an emergency dentist.
I’ve taken all the painkillers I can and I am still in unbearable pain. It’s the worst pain I e ever known.
I was told it was probably the nerve under a deep filling that I have.
someone help me please.

That sounds awful. What painkillers have you had so far?

ladygindiva · 10/06/2023 21:13

Chew raw garlic cloves
Mouthwash with corsodyl
Mouthwash with warm salt water wash
Drink alcohol
I've suffered horrific tooth and jaw pain and doing all the above helped immensely x

Lastminutebride · 10/06/2023 21:13

Does heat or ice help at all?

cantwaittocruise · 10/06/2023 21:15

God you poor thing!

Why are teeth so SHITE? I think this all the time. Absolutely not fit for purpose.

I hope you manage to get it under control to allow you to get some sleep OP.

pampam24 · 10/06/2023 21:17

You need antibiotics to tide you over until you can have the tooth out.
And stronger painkillers if you can get your hands on them (a safe cocktail of codeine, ibuprofen and paracetamol)
Don't lie down flat it will make it worse as the blood rushes to your head.
Avoid too hot/too cold food drink.

But really a loading dose of amoxicillin is what you need now to cope with the night.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 10/06/2023 21:20

Do you live near a big hospital with a dental department? If you do I’d go to their A&E. You poor thing.

Nap1983 · 10/06/2023 21:30

If that unbearable I’d go to A&E at least for analgesia. I find heat helps toothache.

Elasticatedwaist · 10/06/2023 21:31

The dentist I saw on Wednesday gave me amoxicillin but they are finished tomorrow.
I’ve had paracetamol and ibuprofen, not supposed to have ibuprofen though as I also take citalopram and have stomach issues but I just can’t cope.

clove oil ,honestly it does help

kirsty2023 · 10/06/2023 21:45

Clove oil works wonders for tooth ache xx

StuffLoriThangs · 10/06/2023 21:47

I recently had my wisdom tooth out and I used arnica spray on my jaw (along with all the painkillers I could take at any one time)

Robotik · 10/06/2023 21:49

You need some codeine, asap. It will help. And have you a hot water bottle? I always find a hot water bottle helps tooth and ear pain. Tooth ache is awful you poor thing x

Wishitsnows · 10/06/2023 21:50

If you can’t get clove oil then alcohol will get you through the night. Hope you can get seen before Wednesday. Tooth pain like that is the worst

Eternallyoptimistic20 · 10/06/2023 21:51

You have probably taken too much medication tonight but Solpadeine Extra was the only thing that ever got rid of excruciating period pains for me.

Wolfpa · 10/06/2023 21:55

when you try to sleep keep your head raised possibly on an extra pillow lying down normally will worsen the pain.

You can get double strength ibuprofen over the counter. You need to alternate every 2 hours with paracetamol.

if all else fails call 111 and see if you can get something stronger prescribed

Daisythecat15 · 10/06/2023 22:00

You need cocodamol. Paracetamol and ibuprofen won't be enough for pain that intense.

I hope the pain improves soon and the emergency dentist tomorrow can sort you out!

drstranger · 10/06/2023 22:06

Clove oil, my mom stank of it, she used to always have toothache it ruined our childhoods 😂 also she would hold whiskey on the bad tooth for a while before spitting it out

saltrocking · 10/06/2023 22:13

Some cocodamol. It will at least take the edge off x

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 10/06/2023 22:28

Ignore this dangerous advice. Never take more than 8 paracetamol in 24 hours. Read the packet.

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/06/2023 22:30

Another vote for oil of cloves.

Poor poor you 🩷

Shhhquirrel · 10/06/2023 22:33

My daughter had this recently with an abscess and has started root canal treatment. One lot of antibiotics did no good and when she finally saw the endodontist he prescribed 2 different ones to be taken at the same time and this did the trick. Hope you get some help soon OP.

cocksstrideintheevening · 10/06/2023 22:34

Co codamol, and don't lie down yet to sleep propped up. Dents pain is horrific you have my sympathies.

Taking all those painkillers would just be a staggered overdose!

Bessica · 10/06/2023 23:03

Having recently gone through this myself you have my sympathies as it's bloody awful. You really need Co-codamol or Paramol from the pharmacy. You can alternate with ibuprofen. Orajel 20% from the pharmacy will help to numb it.

I also got some Nytol as spent over a week hardly sleeping due to the pain. Try to sleep upright as it does help. A hot water bottle or heat bag against your face will also help, I'm aware it's boiling!

Honestly once you have the root canal it will really help. I am finally getting mine crowned tomorrow after 2 months of treatment.

Tulipvase · 10/06/2023 23:09

Sounds as if you can’t have any more paracetamol at the moment and tbh, my toothache wasn’t as bad but lemsip seemed to help more than taking paracetamol tablets did. Not sure there is a reason for it but might be worth a try. I feel for you, toothache is horrid.
