Thanks lol

You would be lol-ing if you had googled Lyme disease.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 02/06/2023 22:59

You need a prescription for Doxycycline - this needs treating as potential Lymes.

Mumma2Ro · 02/06/2023 23:02

Thanks all. You’re all amazing as I wouldn’t have seeked medical advice if it wasn’t for you guys. I’ve taken some piriton and drawn around the rash. Just got into bed and will await the phone call. If I’ve heard nothing by the morning I’m going to get to my local walk in centre for when it opens at 8am

Walk in/minor injuries at 8 sounds a good call.

Kentkittypie · 02/06/2023 23:14

Don't let them delay to wait for the test results ( not that I think they will as that is a classic bullseye) to start a 3wk course. The long term consequences are just too big a risk.

Wineandrun · 02/06/2023 23:15

im fairly sure a tick has to be attached for at least 36 hours in order to transmit Lyme disease. So it wouldn’t have been from being in a field tonight, but from a tick bite in the last month of so (it can take up to 3 months for the bullseye to appear after a bite, it’s unlikely to appear immediately).

Yep. Well, I had thought 24 hours, but either way, a bullseye rash doesn't show up immediately. The tick doesn't start sucking for 24 hours ,so there's no blood exchange.

Info here, OP.

Lyme Disease UK - Lyme Disease and the EM Rash

The EM rash does not occur in every case of Lyme, but if a patient does present with the rash then no blood test is required and treatment should be prescribed immediately as per the NICE guidelines.

My friend recently had a tick on her, the gp told her to go to A&E for removal.
They did remove it and said if she becomes unwell she will need antibiotics. I was surprised they didn’t automatically treat but seemingly they don’t.

In some areas of the UK it's common to have numerous tick bites in a summer. I've got friends whose kids go to a school in the Highlands where the grass round the playground is infested with ticks because of the deer that graze there and teachers do a couple of checks a day and remove ticks from the kids. If you treated every tick bite with antibiotics we'd have serious problems. You only need antibiotics if the tick had Lymes disease and that's why the doctor has advised your friend to come back for antibiotics if she becomes unwell. The bullseye rash is one of the main signs that you've been bitten by a tick with Lymes disease, so in this case it is likely to be antibiotics straight away.

This is why I said that I'd be surprised if it was from the OP sitting in a field tonight. Takes 3 days for a rash like this to show up (minimum). Always worth getting it checked out though especially as OP doesn't remember having a tick attached to her (though it's likely she would have noticed considering where it is on her body!).

Get antibiotics in your belly, Lyme disease is hard to test for!!!

Tick bite bullseye rash. Ring for advice.

I am just queuing outside the urgent care centre now. They open at 8 am

YukoandHiro · 03/06/2023 07:55

Good luck OP. Go in informed, say you're definitely not willing to take the risk for Lyme and just get the antibiotics

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 03/06/2023 09:12

Looks like a tick bite, well done for getting it looked at

Thirty5 · 03/06/2023 09:13

Wow that’s quite alarming- hope you get seen asap x

Doggymummar · 03/06/2023 09:14

My friend in Cornwall has had a few, they go to A and E to get them removed

JMSA · 03/06/2023 09:16

Mumsnet is bloody wonderful. Well-done to all of you who have helped the OP. I wouldn't have had a clue what this was if it happened to me, but now I would Star

Mumma2Ro · 03/06/2023 09:21

So the urgent care centre I was at didn’t have a bloody doctor! Was just nurse led- had I had known that I wouldn’t have gone there. I was sent to a different urgent care centre- waiting there now

OP posts:
VDisappointing · 03/06/2023 10:06

If the wait is long and you can afford it worth paying for an online doctor service who you'd send a photo too - I recently got meds for shingles after zoom appt with private doctor.

Mumma2Ro · 03/06/2023 10:26

Leaving now. They wouldn’t give me antibiotics! I saw a nurse practitioner who wanted to send me home. I kicked up a fuss and insisted on speaking with a doctor. Doctor came and agreed with the nurse and said no just monitor it. Had a heated argument with the doctor……
and I’ve left empty handed. What a waste of my Saturday morning!! I’m so annoyed
