Please get antibiotics for Lyme even if you feel ok

WheresSpring · 02/06/2023 22:32

Yep - tick bite. Call 111 to sort antibiotics.

Mumma2Ro · 02/06/2023 22:33

Hi all so 111 were great and said a dr will call me back within the next 12 hours.
would you wait for that phone call- my guess is they’ll probably send over a prescription of antibiotics to my local pharmacy.
or would you go to a&e now ??
I feel absolutely fine not unwell at all

Fucking hell. You only noticed it because you were shaving your leg? Hope 111 is helpful. That looks horrendous.

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 02/06/2023 22:35

Don’t let them fob you off OP.
This is classic bullseye rash likely from a tick bite and you need antibiotics asap.
Risk of Lyme disease.

@Mumma2Ro I cross posted with you.

Personally, yes, I would wait for that call back and pick up antibiotics tomorrow rather than waiting in a&e all night. But I am not a doctor and not responsible for any outcomes!

tweener · 02/06/2023 22:36

I'd wait for a prescription but book in with the GP on Monday, Lyme's disease can be diagnosed with a blood test (although false negatives are common). I wouldn't go to A&E if a prescription can get sorted this weekend, but I'm not medically trained so no idea if it's the right advice. It's just what I'd do.

maimeo · 02/06/2023 22:36

Definitely a Lyme risk. I had the same on holidays years ago. You need to take doxycycline for 21 days, and I wouldn't be agreeing to wait until you've any other symptoms.....

Brackenfield · 02/06/2023 22:37

You absolutely must get antibiotics, don't let them fob you off for anything. We deal with this at work a lot and some Dr's don't take it seriously enough

AsphaltGirl · 02/06/2023 22:37

Mumma2Ro · 02/06/2023 22:36

Thanks lol

Sorry, it does look serious though. Hope you get your ABs in the morning

Whoiscomingtosaveyou · 02/06/2023 22:37

By fob off I meant making you wait til Monday. It’s good you’ll have a call back.

Bringonthechange · 02/06/2023 22:38

I’d go to A and E op. In my experience, 111 do not call back within their time frame.

We went to A and E and were home before they called back (many hours after they said).

user1471465608 · 02/06/2023 22:40

A&E is really not necessary - wait for 111 to call back

SixKeys · 02/06/2023 22:42

I would wait for the call however I'd put money that you were bitten days ago.

Rashes from tick bites aren't painful or itchy so it makes sense she didn't notice. I had no idea I had exactly the same on the back of my arm it wasn't until someone told me.

Fair enough, I wasn't accusing her of anything. It was genuine shock. It does look really bad.

They're quite dramatic looking aren't they! 😅

cocunut · 02/06/2023 22:48

Get yourself to a healthcare professional ASAP. That looks like the stereotypical bullseye rash.

Em308 · 02/06/2023 22:50

As many previous posters have stated, it does look like the classic bullseye rash common with Lyme disease, however there are several other diagnoses so best to wait til a doctor checks you out before worrying.

wildfirewonder · 02/06/2023 22:51

I don't think you need A&E but if 111 do not call you back then escalate it and do go to A&E and ask whatever doctor you see to prescribe the precautionary antibiotics.

dontknowwhatswrong · 02/06/2023 22:53

Definitely looks like bullseye rash, hope
Your feeling ok! X

Daisythecat15 · 02/06/2023 22:53

I'd wait for the call back. You'd probably just be sitting in A&E for hours to get a prescription, rather than waiting at home comfortably for the same thing. If 111 thought you needed A&E they would have sent you there.

fortnumsfinest · 02/06/2023 22:54

A relative of mine has exactly the same and their dr prescribed a 3 week course of antibiotics, was told they were treating it as Lymes disease as a precaution before the blood test can be done

SashaAlabaster · 02/06/2023 22:55

Might be worth drawing round the outline with a pen, to monitor any spread of size?

Glad you're not in pain and that medical advice has been sought.
