Bowel issue

Firsttimemummy23 · 13/05/2023 13:41

Hey guys,

Around 10 months ago I had my daughter via c section and since then my bowels have been a complete mess! I can go from conspitation or diarrhea within a day.

However the diarrhea is getting worst and it's starting to burn to the point where it's painful to sit, sleep or even walk neither mind picking my LO up.

I had a partial colonoscopy and they found two polyps and said I needed to go back and do a full Colonoscopy and remove them. I did call the hospital and they said urgent referrals are between. 3-6 months and honestly I don't know how I will cope. I also bleed sometimes.

Surley two polyps wouldn't cause this issues (they confirmed I have no piles and fissure)

I have changed my diet and drinking more water but nothing is improving.

Has this happened to anyone? What was the outcome? X

Sorry, OP. This sounds miserable. Are you at least on the wait list?

Obviously it is wrong that you should need to consider this, but have you thought of going private for the colonoscopy, if you can afford it? Usually you can take a private diagnosis back to the NHS and begin treatment more quickly.

I hate that it should be necessary, but these are the times we live in. If you can’t do that, could your GP advocate more effectively for you? You said that you called the hospital. They may pay more attention to your GP.

YellowDiamondInTheSky · 15/05/2023 00:21

Hi OP,

I was actually thinking of you today after your other thread. How are you doing? Any news on what your colonoscopy will be?

Firsttimemummy23 · 15/05/2023 08:00

Hi both, I did look at private options but it's over £2k and with a young baby it's just something I can't afford.

I'm not sure if I can ring the doctors again and ask for them to do a referral for me, they don't seem like they want to actually help me.

I'm just very miserable and starting to feel anxious all the time now so I think it's taking an effect on my mental health.

I did also write a complaint to my hospital as the letter stated I needed it done by the 6th June .. I don't want to a Karen but I can't keep being pain all the time! I get so snappy and I don't want that environment for my LG.

Does your GP know how awful you feel, and that this is impeding your care ofcyour baby?
If one doctor was unsympathetic, can you ask to see another?

The GP owes you a duty of care

Firsttimemummy23 · 15/05/2023 15:40

They will say I got postnatal depression when I don't, they tried to say that before and I was fine!

I'm going to call them now and see if they can refer me again ... They did an urgent referral before but they didn't book me in for the full scan of my bowel ..

Good luck. Now you’ve been told you need a full colonoscopy so I hope that will help

Boxbedbank · 15/05/2023 15:51

A few things you could try -ring and say you'll take short notice cancellation (you still get some notice because of prep),
Ask about trying some probiotics they often help with digestive issues,
Have you noticed any food groups that cause issues, don't eliminate foods groups though,
Assume you've had lots of bloods (it's common for women to be diagnosed with coeliac after child birth),
Ask your gp to write to them if you feel your condition has deteriorated,
Are you under gastroenterology? Could you get a Phonecall with a gastroenterology nurse they might be able to advise,
I do empathise I've been through this multiple times with me and my dc, You may have to be that patient in order to get seen. Just be polite but firm, read the nice guidelines so you can quote them and also your mp might be able to help.

Firsttimemummy23 · 15/05/2023 17:35

Hello,

I have asked for cancellations and also happy to go with a nurse who does these instead of a doctor.
I am taking them yeah :)

All bloods were normal apart for one but I had noravirus the week before I had so they think that's why I scored a 43.

The food changes every week! It's so confusing.

I will ty xxx

What did they say? Did you have polyps? They found two for me but they need to go around the bend so there could be more.

What symptoms did you have if you don't mind me asking?

It's so scary! Xxx

I have a non urgent appointment on 23rd for blood test results and still waiting for stool sample/fit test results. Dr said if they're all normal then no further investigation needed so will see what happens/what they say about my blood test. Hope you're OK xx

worldwidetravel2017 · 04/06/2023 10:05

Yes first time mummy 23
I had polyps
I had 3

Unfortunately one was large

3 removed
2 biopsies taken for each
Awaiting results

Polyps can make you have a bleed in you

I had very low feretin

But then low feretin can be a thing in some females

My body ( i was very premature and needed iron help in first year of life )
Has always been v bad at absorbing iron

Ive also always had sensitive bowels etc

I have anxiety and obv that doesnt help bowels / brain

Im only mid 30s

We have bowel cancer in family though

Had positive fit test score etc
.
My body wass majorly meh from glandular fever 13 months ago. That does all sorts to your body

Firsttimemummy23 · 04/06/2023 10:15

I had glandular fever years ago and my iron is low.. did you have diarrhea and conspitation?

OP posts:
worldwidetravel2017 · 04/06/2023 10:29

Upset tummy yes but i kinda put that down to stress / anxiety / eating chocolate / all sorts

Never really had constipation

Ive been reading since colonoscopy about ways to slow polyps
Dont quote me on it but ive just started these well woman energy things .. orange thing in a drink - once a day - had 2 days so far
They have lots of goodness in 4 energy and body
They have 400 folic acid in ...
400 folic acid is good 4 slowing polyp apparently

That aside - i bought them about a month ago before i had a non cancerous cyst on my leg and before i had urgent 2 week wait referal as i have fatigue and wanted them 4 energy

One of my aunts has chrons
An uncle has that d something condition - diviculutis or however you spell it ...

My uncle never had biopsies though

worldwidetravel2017 · 04/06/2023 10:32

How low is your iron - whats the number?
Have you had a blood test especially for feretin ?
Some people get feretin / iron pumped into them for iron iv
I had that this year

Firsttimemummy23 · 04/06/2023 11:34

My main issue is diarrhea sorry tmi! And it then causes me pain all day long like today!

Doctor won't tell me level but I can't have any iron tabs due to my bowel issues.

Did you feel any better having them removed? Mine were all under 4mm so far ..

OP posts:
worldwidetravel2017 · 04/06/2023 11:36

If you look on NHS app with your info - it should say number of feretin
And number from poo test
Mine does

worldwidetravel2017 · 04/06/2023 11:37

If you cant have iron tablets and depending on level of feretin - iron iv might be good.
Weird 4 dr to not tell you levels. Thats odd
