I have had a red rash all over my body since Saturday. I look like I have been dipped in red paint. Now my joints are sore. My neck and shoulder are sore, and all the joints in my wrists, ankles and knees. I know it's not a Fibro flare up as the pain for it affects the muscles, not the joints. I am soooo tired as well. DS1 has a similar rahs on his face and arms. His isn't as bad as mine, and he hasn't any pain. I couldn't dress myself today, DH had to help me, the pain is so bad in my wrists and elbows

ring nhs-direct?!

LilRedWG · 18/02/2008 09:12

Scarlet fever? Rheumatic fever?

LilRedWG · 18/02/2008 09:13

Rheumatic fever

MaureenMLove · 18/02/2008 09:13

Oh god, Saltire, that doesn't sound pleasant. I though of Scarlet fever too. I'd get on the NHS direct too. Usually I say get a dr appointment, but since DS has it too, it sound infectious.

LilRedWG · 18/02/2008 09:13

Hope you feel better soon whatever it is. I would call your doctor or NHS Direct.

brimfull · 18/02/2008 09:14

nhs direct or your gp

ggglmpp · 18/02/2008 09:17

nhs direct

artichokes · 18/02/2008 09:26

Poor you. NHS Direct will not be anymore help than googling the symptoms. They will tell you to go to a doctor.

I would call GP and ask to speak to one of the doctors (most practices have an end of morning slot when the duty doctor does phone calls).

saltire · 18/02/2008 09:35

Have called the docotrs, we are going tomorrow morning. it's so painful to do anything,my joints on my wrists and fingers are swollen. Because I hav the Fibromyalgia, I always tend to assume that everything is connected to that, but this isn't. I really feel awful. Ds1 is better than me, no pain or itching or swelling. Am off to sit with a hot water bottle on my neck in a dark room, my eyes hurt!

If you get any worse call the doctor and see if they will come out to you this afternoon.

saltire · 18/02/2008 18:59

Well the rash has almost disappeared, but God the itch is terrible. I took some anti-allergy tablets, but they haven't started to work yet. Also still got that "been run over by a bus" feeling, my wrists, hands and feet are so painful.

Have you had a fluey thing recently, Saltire? I had this after I had parvovirus - postviral arthritis I hope yours is a mild case if it is that. Much empathy - it's agony

saltire · 18/02/2008 21:46

Hunker - I haven't had anything like flu. I posted on another thread tonight about how I still feel crap, and should be in bed. Even typing is sore as my joints are all so swollen, but I know I won't sleep. Will see what Doc says tomorrow, DS1 and I are going as he still ahs his rahs on his face

liath · 18/02/2008 21:47

Poor you. Might be parvovirus.

hunkermunker · 18/02/2008 21:52

You can get postviral arthritis after, well, a virus - it's an immune system response. It's common after mumps, rubella, etc as well as parvo. Parvovirus can be v mild though, iirc.

I am really sorry you're so sore. I remember waking up with it and screaming in pain because I moved my left leg about a centimetre.

Cremolafoam · 18/02/2008 21:56

havingbjust had chicken pox - i am wondering if you have the same- or shingles?
shingles has certain pain associated with it.
saltire hope you can get some sleep with the anthistamines.i feel for you whatever it is.hope you can get a diagnosis soon .

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 18/02/2008 23:28

Oh bloody hell saltire

Strep infection can give a red rash plus arthritis type symptoms, I had this, bloody awful. Scarlet fever (same bug) is usually body only I think and a sandpapery feel. ds1 had it and was quite poorly. Reaction to your painkillers maybe? Or have you been tested for lupus, bearing in mind your other pain although I don't think lupus rash is all over?

Hope you get sorted tomorrow.

vonsudenfed · 19/02/2008 10:18

how are you today? Some kind person sent me over here because I also have a vile, itchy, red, someone has dipped my whole body in caustic soda rash - and, wierdly, the soles of my feet ache when I stand on them. But I've also had the screaming squits, so it may not be the same thing.

Let me know how you get on- I'm off to the doctor in half an hour too.

loopylou6 · 19/02/2008 11:12

what about slapped cheek? my dcs had this and whilst they where well, i deveolped EXTREMELY painful joints, apparently thats the adults equivelent to it, suppsoe it wouldnt be impossible that u would get the rash aswell

hunkermunker · 19/02/2008 16:50

Looplou, that's parvovirus.

Saltire, how are you?

saltire · 19/02/2008 20:13

Sorry, not been on. I went to bed early last night I felt truly awful. I woke this morning to find myself unable to move. My fingers, hands and wrsits are swollen - typing this is agony, and my knee and ankle joints are swollen.
The doc thinks it's just a virus which has triggered a fibro flare up - I am not so sure though. DH has had to dress me today, he had to help me in and outof the shower and cut up my food . I won't be on here long, the pain is unbearable.
If my fingers are slightly bent it helps - very slightly - to ease the pain. When I try and straighten them though the pain is in my whole hand and the bit from where the hand joins the fingers goes all white. The doc has said if my fingers swell much more I have to go and get my wedding ring and my grannies weding ring, which I wear on my right hand cut off

Saltire, I have just seen this. I know you might not still be here to read this, but sending you lots of get well soon vibes. You poor thing. It sounds awful. Try and rest all you can.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/02/2008 20:16

Saltire - I can't belive your GP. Your all sollen and his best advice is to get your ring cut off. Surely there is something he can do to help. He should send you for a blood test at the very least.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 19/02/2008 20:17

Oh Saltire, how horrid, you must feel awful.

saltire · 19/02/2008 20:21

Oh he did send me for a blood test - reluctantly. he said "I suppose if you want a blood test I can send you for one, but we know what it will say". Meaning that I have had every blood test known to mankind in a search for a diagnosis before the DX the Fibro, anmd most of them were clear.

DG - Thanks, was thinking about you today, wondering how it's going for you. I hadn't seen you on here for ages and was going to email you, but can't just now!
