Dh and I dtd about 8/9 hours ago. I haven't been able to pass urine since. I feel full and need to go but can't, currently in the Bath to see if that helps but I can't seem to relax enough to let myself go. I did nhs 111 and it says see gp . I can't imagine going till potentially Tuesday though, how long would you give it until you went to urgent care (no out of hours dept near me)

I would go now. After 9 or 10 hours, it will constitute a medical emergency.

Miscellaneousme · 28/04/2023 19:49

Go to A&E, OP. Acute urinary retention requires emergency treatment.

PinkCrocodile · 28/04/2023 19:52

I feel ok otherwise but just really aware that I need to pee, can't believe even being in a hot bath isn't helping, it's just increasing my urge to go but nothing is happening is the most odd sensation. I'll give it a little while longer (Dh gets home from work at 8.30 ) and if no change I will go to urgent care

My cousin experienced this.
It turned into a 999 call. She became very ill and hasn’t been well for ages following that episode.
In yr shoes I wouldn’t wait any longer. Get yourself medical help. Now.
I hope you get help and all will be well.

PinkCrocodile · 28/04/2023 19:56

Thank you, it's bringing tears to my eyes, not pain but the need to go and can't. Dh is coming home a bit earlier so I can go to get checked out.

I had this after IVF, I think 111 are wrong to send you to the GP, it was definitely taken more seriously by my doctor even though it was only two hours. Try ibuprofen in the meantime, it seemed to help me and things resolved just before they were going to catheterise me.

PinkCrocodile · 28/04/2023 20:01

Thank you, husband on way home now so I'll go and get checked out soon. Tbh when I wrote this I was after advice but even in just this short time I'm realising I can't wait like this much longer

Was going to say I'd get help for this sooner rather than later. Hope you're seen quickly.

Throwncrumbs · 28/04/2023 20:21

A and E !

tinatsarina · 28/04/2023 20:23

Glad your going to get seen, hopefully relief will come soon

spiderlight · 28/04/2023 20:46

Definitely go and get checked out, but while you're waiting, try sitting on the loo and gently tickle the very base of your spine/your coccyx. There are nerves there that help the opening of your bladder to relax.

princesspeppax · 28/04/2023 20:49

Definitely hospital, I had this and ended up with a 7 day hospital day with a catheter, the instant relief when the catheter went in was unreal. Hope you are better soon, its very uncomfortable😥

lacucarachaaa · 28/04/2023 20:52

Definitely a&e job!

LadyLolaRuben · 28/04/2023 21:03

A&E asap, retention can damage your kidneys

vipersnest1 · 28/04/2023 21:08

I had this after an operation - two litres.
It left me with nerve damage.
You are right to get help now.

CrumpetsandJammmm · 28/04/2023 21:15

Ooof, that sounds bad! Hope you get seen soon x

Emelene · 28/04/2023 21:21

You’re right to go to A and E OP - acute urinary retention is a medical emergency. I hope you get seen quickly xx

JustCheck · 28/04/2023 21:23

God yes this is very bad for your kidneys

B84101 · 28/04/2023 21:33

Hi there,

I had this have surgery and the nurse recommended I pour tepid warm water on that area while you sit on the toilet to help relax the muscles, it may be worth a try. I hope it helps 🙏

MajesticWhine · 28/04/2023 21:39

That sounds very uncomfortable- I don't think you can wait for a GP appointment.

FannyFifer · 28/04/2023 21:43

You poor thing !
Hopefully you're at A&E now.

Tilllly · 28/04/2023 21:49

I had this when I was pregnant, the pain was horrific. I was catheterised and it didn't happen again. But I agree, you do need to be seen

Let us know how you get on please
