A&E or Doctor on Monday

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 15/04/2023 16:52

Had a 360 FDL tummy tuck on 11th March, surgery went well. Lots of fluid build up which was normal, however three weeks later I developed an infection in a small hole I had and ended up in hospital for three days. This is fine now and no fluid coming out of it anymore.

Now I have a soft area, with pain and redness at the front of the scar. With dark brusing?! Underneath.

Do I wait until Monday and go and see the doctor or ring the plastic surgeon who dealt with me while I was in hospital (no idea if they are there) or just go to A&E.

I tried a walk in centre last time and got told off for not going direct to a&e as they couldn't deal with the issue.

Pictures are 1 normal side and 2 of the "bad" side

Do you have a temperature, nausea or acute pain?

AutisticLegoLover · 15/04/2023 16:59

A&E as it's infected by the sounds and looks of it. The redness is quite spread from the scar. Better to be safe than sorry. Former nurse for what it's worth. You'll get idiots saying to see a pharmacist no doubt. Posters on these threads are often dangerous with their advice. Advising to see the GP next week for chest pain and breathing problems was a low point on here.

Nattertatter03 · 15/04/2023 17:00

A&E or walk in, I’d go now before the Saturday night rush p

It's painful if I touch it
No temp, but then I didn't when I had the last infection.

It feels soft like behind the scar it's come apart. The otherside feels firm to the touch.

Go to a&e. Don't take any risks with that.

I repeat: A&E.

Christwosheds · 15/04/2023 17:08

A and E.
That doesn’t look good to me.

Tarantullah · 15/04/2023 17:12

Definitely A&E.

Katrinawaves · 15/04/2023 17:13

I’d ring the hospital where you had the tummy tuck done in the first instance for advice. If this was done privately I’d expect them to contact your surgeon and ask him to speak to you urgently. I’d do this now - don’t wait until Monday.

If you don’t get any joy with this, then I’d go to A and E as you’ve already had one infection of the wound and it sounds like the previous treatment did not completely get rid of that.

Skybluepinky · 15/04/2023 17:13

Get yrself to A&E.

FadedRed · 15/04/2023 17:13

Op, please go to A&E with this. It looks like a collection of fluid behind the scar (haematoma) that will probably need draining and antibiotics.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 15/04/2023 17:14

Defo A&E

sazza76 · 15/04/2023 17:18

Definately A&E, it looks infected and its getting worse quite quickly by the look of things. Don’t risk ending up with sepsis, go and get seen and if they think its infected they can start antibiotics straight away. Then on Monday you can let the surgeon know. Please listen to what the majority of people on here are telling you and dont wait. (Also ex nurse, was a nurse for over 10 yrs).
hope you feel better soon.

Hbh17 · 15/04/2023 17:20

If you went private, contact the private hospital directly and they will speak to the surgeon, who will advise. This is what you pay for. Don't waste A&E staff time in this situation.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 15/04/2023 17:22

I have rang the plastics that dealt with me last week but they aren't there until Monday.

I have tried 111 online they say GP on Monday.

So I had a collection of fluid, which became infected and I was in hospital the week before last, lots of antibiotics, then follow up appointment on Tuesday and was discharged as the hole in my back where the fluid was pissing out of had healed.

I don't know if I have over stretched and torn the belly bit or if it's breaking down inside 😕

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/04/2023 17:23

A&E.

Your belly button doesn't look too good either, is that pus??

BrutusMcDogface · 15/04/2023 17:23

Definitely a&e as that’s deteriorated quickly, and looks sore and infected.

PurBal · 15/04/2023 17:25

@Needanewnamebeingwatched you said you contacted the plastic surgeon who dealt with you last week, have you contacted the surgeon who performed the surgery 3 weeks ago? It’s the surgeon that performed the surgery who should be taking responsibility for your aftercare, private or otherwise, not A&E. If you can’t get hold of them today then A&E and the surgeon that did the surgery on Monday.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 15/04/2023 17:27

A&E that looks infected. And draw around the redness so you can see if it spreads. You don't want sepsis.

JustFrustrated · 15/04/2023 17:28

A&E. The redness should be gone by now, and it's very localised e.g. not all of the scar is like that.

Also, try asking in the FB group for that surgery (if they have one, mine did) as they're full of advice from people who have the same surgery.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 15/04/2023 17:32

I have drawn round the redness and will see what it looks like in an hour.

I have seen 6 uk surgeons since I had the surgery, due to the infection and being in hospital. They all say the surgery is fine, it was just an unfortunate build up of fluid and then an infection.

The surgery was done abroad, in a well researched hospital and recommended surgeon.

Most GPs can't see you at that short notice, all ou rlocal ones have a 2 week wait for appointments, Go to A&E
