A&E or Doctor on Monday

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 15/04/2023 16:52

Had a 360 FDL tummy tuck on 11th March, surgery went well. Lots of fluid build up which was normal, however three weeks later I developed an infection in a small hole I had and ended up in hospital for three days. This is fine now and no fluid coming out of it anymore.

Now I have a soft area, with pain and redness at the front of the scar. With dark brusing?! Underneath.

Do I wait until Monday and go and see the doctor or ring the plastic surgeon who dealt with me while I was in hospital (no idea if they are there) or just go to A&E.

I tried a walk in centre last time and got told off for not going direct to a&e as they couldn't deal with the issue.

Pictures are 1 normal side and 2 of the "bad" side

So my neighbour who is a nurse has popped over and said A&E in the morning, don't wait till Monday morning.

All obs ok for now, obviously if anything changes I will go straight in.

Thank you for everyone's replies x

"I tried a walk in centre last time and got told off for not going direct to a&e "

what does "last time" mean? As in last week or last year or what?

ChocHotolate · 15/04/2023 22:04

@Needanewnamebeingwatched
Sorry, I can't quote a quoted post as I'm on the app

Far more complications from abroad. Yes of course there are complications via surgery in UK and some of those present in ED. However there are also routes available to some post surgical NHS patients which avoids ED - surgical assessment units, follow up appointments. Not all available to everyone but this does lessen pressure on full EDs

The infection rate for tummy tuck surgery in Turkey is astronomical I would love to see official statistics but I doubt anyone is counting. Yet

Panpig · 15/04/2023 22:10

That looks like my C section did before it burst open OP. I think you need to go to A and E ASAP tbh. It turned out I had MRSA in mine and it was not pretty

sunflowerandivy · 15/04/2023 22:17

Paramedic here. Your nurse friend is wrong IMO. That redness and swelling looks like is worsening and progressing quickly. Also, if you need A&E, you go there and then - you don't wait overnight then go in morning.

carly2803 · 15/04/2023 22:22
  • pack a bag and go to a and e.

now.

EarlGreywithLemon · 15/04/2023 22:42

Please please get that seen now. That’s not what a normal scar looks like. If my c section scar had looked anything like that, I’d have been at A&E right away.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/04/2023 23:00

I don't think it looks better in the last photo. It looks to me as if the scar may open
Just go to A&E

Whatevercanbedone · 15/04/2023 23:26

@Throwncrumbs
If you pay private in the UK they are great when things go according to plan but when things go wrong they aren't equipped to manage it in the private hospital and will transfer you to the NHS service. So OP isn't to blame here.

MeinKraft · 16/04/2023 00:03

'The alternative is to pay to have the surgery in a reputable private HOSPITAL, with aftercare in the package in the UK. Not go to a CLINIC in a country where it’s CHEAP for a reason as you get NO aftercare. '

Oh well there you go then OP just jump in your Time Machine and go to a private hospital in the UK

IHateLegDay · 16/04/2023 00:13

OP I don't understand why you bothered asking for advice when you've literally ignored every single person.

You could just be sensible and go to A&E or you could wait it out and give the infection even more time to spread 🤷‍♀️

monsteramunch · 16/04/2023 01:03

Just so everyone is clear OP and doesn't keep posting if it's not going to happen, is there any way you're going to go to A&E tonight? Or is it pointless people suggesting it as you've made your mind up?

Sepsis kills. It looks infected. It's not worth taking the chance and almost every single person on the thread has said you need to go to A&E as soon as physically possible, not wait until morning / Monday.

So is there a chance you'll do that or should people stop suggesting it as you've already decided you won't be going overnight?

This, times one billion.
Sepsis isn't a joke. Go to the hospital

Lizzy1328 · 16/04/2023 01:41

Looks like your wound is going to breakdown, AE now could turn out to be necrotising fasciitis.....

mamakoukla · 16/04/2023 01:46

If it was my mum, I’d drive her in not ask her whether she should get it seen to. Maybe I’m overreacting. It doesn’t matter where the surgery was done; what matters is getting the treatment you need now. I wouldn’t want to look back 24 h later and wonder what if.

FangedFrisbee · 16/04/2023 01:52

@Needanewnamebeingwatched you need to be seen asap. I've seen a woman on TikTok (Sara platt) who contracted a flesh eating bacteria in turkey and all her surgery sites have had to be debrided. She's had surgery every 3 days for 6
Weeks to wash out the infection with a vacuum dressing .

No you're not overreacting. This looks infected

Definately A&E, it looks infected and its getting worse quite quickly by the look of things. Don’t risk ending up with sepsis, go and get seen and if they think its infected they can start antibiotics straight away. Then on Monday you can let the surgeon know. Please listen to what the majority of people on here are telling you and dont wait. (Also ex nurse, was a nurse for over 10 yrs).
hope you feel better soon.

This please 💐

Magnoliainbloom · 16/04/2023 02:58

Terrifyingly risky position to be in. Your latest pic doesn’t look like it’s improved. Quite the opposite. Good luck OP.

AutisticLegoLover · 16/04/2023 09:20

What a pointless thread this has turned out to be.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 16/04/2023 09:29

I am on my way to A&E this morning

Thank you to those who replied, I did not want to add to the A&E list last night.

How many have complications from surgery in the UK?

Against how many have complications from surgery abroad?

The difference is op that people who have private surgery in the uk will have any complications of the op looked after by the private hospital that did the surgery generally. Those who go abroad then burden the NHS if there are any complications, not the private hospital they had the procedure.

And yes, id say that needs A&E.

Willmafrockfit · 16/04/2023 09:37

hope you have a positive result from A & E today op

What if I had the surgery via the NHS?

Would I be guaranteed not to pick up an infection?

I have paid for my own gastric sleeve, same place, lost 8 stone now 10stone and paid for my own plastic surgery.

Unfortunately I picked up an infection

But will probably save the NHS money later as I won't have all those illnesses contributed to being so overweight.

I don't drink, I don't smoke and have worked all my life
