Any Doctors or Surgeons about? I've fallen on my arm and I'm not sure what injury I have.

As the title says really, I tripped over the hose up our drive, landed on my right arm and now I have limited movement, it hurts obviously but the range (or lack of) is concerning me, I can do circular movements no problem, (think DJ spinning records in a circular fashion) but i can barely do forward movements if that makes sense? Imagine putting eye make up on but your arm can't get anywhere near my eye because I'm in agony, it just won't go! I don't think it's broken but I've done something, I can move fingers no problem, thank you in advance!

You need to get it checked. My dh was adamant he had just sprained something when he fell at work - he had a broken elbow!

DanceMonkey19 · 15/03/2023 17:22

No-one is going to be able to diagnose you over the internet are they? You need an x-ray. Nearest a&e or minor injuries unit.

Yes thank you I'm aware of that, I just wondered if any docs had rough ideas before I go and wait 10 hours at A&E

I broke my arm and barely noticed it and very little pain. Sounds like you need to get yours X-rayed

Coffeellama · 15/03/2023 17:25

Phone 111 and see if they can get you an out of hours GP appointment. But even if someone does have a clue it won’t change your need to be seen and would likely be incorrect so id get on the phone to 111 now and see what they can advise.

That's a bummer, hope he's ok now, and I hope I've just sprained mine!

Nobody here can tell you the answer. You need an x-ray. You should go to A & E now, or to a minor injuries unit if there is an open one near you now.

Kingsize · 15/03/2023 17:27

You wont know unless you get it checked. Dh carried on working the rest of his shift, even used the arm as much as he could. It was still broken

Kingsize · 15/03/2023 17:28

Oh, and if a break doesnt get seen and set at the right angle it can leave you with long term difficulties, potentially needing surgery. Dont think you can go easy on it for a few weeks and itll be fine!

ShitIdiot · 15/03/2023 17:29

No medical professional is going to give you any advice other than “you need to see a medical profession”.

you are a grown up, only you can decide - not randoms on the internet.

WisteriaLodge · 15/03/2023 17:29

Thanks everyone, looks like I'll give 111 a call

FFS, is there any need? I was just asking for advice for Christ's sake

Sorry this is bad advice. GPs don’t have X-ray vision or X-rays, she needs to go to a minor injuries unit for an injury or A&E

Let us know how you get on xx It might 'just' be a nasty sprain

WisteriaLodge · 15/03/2023 17:32

Thanks everyone, wish me luck, off to A&E now, hoping they say no damage, just sprained.

No you weren’t asking for advice - you were specifically asking for a doctor or surgeon to tell you what injury you had.

any fool can pretend they are a doctor when online. They can then give shitty advice which can read by anyone. And given how people believe any old shite that any old idiot has written on the internet, they could follow some seriously bad advice. So this does not just affect you.

get It x-rayed - only then you will you be able to access the most appropriate medical treatment.

I got the impression from your OP that you were virtually asking for a diagnosis and hoping not to need to go to the hospital for it. Nobody can give you that here but there can be some who might try, or who may even pretend they could.

The problem is that if anyone gives poor advice here then there is, as @ShitIdiot says, a danger that you and others might follow it, with potentially disastrous consequences. Some people believe absolutely anything at all that they read online and think that because it is on the internet it must be gospel.

I'm not saying that you are one of those people, and I am glad you are now going to A & E. I hope you get seen reasonably quickly and the injury is not too serious/easily treated.

It’s not bad advice, I told her to phone 111, they wouldn’t give a gp appointment if it needs x raying obviously. But she was hoping to avoid a&e at the time and 111 > mumsnet for medical advice.

ticktock19 · 15/03/2023 21:29

It maybe your elbow that has been sprained / bruised / fractured- I made a right mess of my arm last year including a radial head fracture and had it wired together. One of the movements they were very keen for me to regain was bending my arm as if I was doing a bicep curl. I hope it's nothing too serious and you're not waiting too long either. I was seen in the minor injuries area of A&E after being triaged and was called through after about 30 mins

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/03/2023 21:36

You have broken-arm-itus.

Rest it, take painkillers if you need to, and do the recommended physio.
