Fungal toe nail

Has anyone successfully cleared fungal toe nails without medication? I've tried everything but it seems nothing works. The tablets made me very such so had to stop those. Currently, I'm filing them as much as possible and dabbing with Miltons on a daily basis. My next thought I'd to have them removed or at least my big toe nail which is a complete mess!

Obviously chemo is a bit drastic a solution

I’m going to add it to my list of things to try (along with swimming in a radioactive lake) in case things get desperate!

This time last year I had a fungal infection on my big toe nail. I investigated laser treatment and it was going to take over a year and cost more than 1k.
Then I saw a lady who used to be a beautician but now dealt with feet (can't imagine anyone wanting to work with feet!!) And she did a treatment called curanail (iirc) . She drilled tiny holes (not painful, holes not visible) in my nail and I had to treat with lamisil every day. I saw her every 4-6 weeks and It cleared up completely in about 7 months.

I had this...my podiatrist called it lacuna method. Cleared it up

@MissConductUS , did you applied it in its own or diluted una carrier oil?

ive used tea tree oil in the past on its own and made the skin on my toe very itchy.

I bought a small bottle of it on Amazon and applied it right out of the bottle with a cotton bud, putting a light coating on the nail. There was no irritation of the skin around the nail. It also smelled nice, a bit like pizza. 😀

Just to say, I bought the electric nail file and the difference is amazing. Just looks much more presentable. Still have to treat of course. Considering emuaid.

jumpinsback · 02/04/2023 19:21

Emuaid is pricey but it has completely cleared up two of my nails (the two that weren't as bad) didn't work on the others but I'm on to tea tree oil now

norma1980 · 02/04/2023 19:29

@mikado1 which electric nail file did you get please?

Great to know re emuaid. I will look and see name of my file Norma.

jumpinsback · 02/04/2023 19:46

I've been using one of those flat foot files on my toes, not an electric one and it works well

Bonelly · 02/04/2023 19:51

Twice daily tea tree. Weekly file. Occasional oregano oil. Took 6 months but could see it growing out so was worth it

stillherenow · 02/04/2023 19:52

I saw a podiatrist after years and years of this as I wanted to start swimming again. I didn’t want to take tablets, and she said absolutely no need. She removed it and gave me some spray (will come back and give the name as you can get it on Amazon) and also put on a reconstructed nail. I spray x2 daily . The reconstruction is incredible and I’m not at all self conscious now. I don’t even mind if it comes back as I’m happy to keep having it removed and reconstructed. So glad I didn’t risk taking the tablets. Total life changer as I now swim 2k x 3 a week and I wasn’t doing any sport before due to my nail.

Gufo · 02/04/2023 20:26

Vicks works overnight for me, but as soon as I stop using it, the mange comes back!

Bobbi730 · 02/04/2023 20:46

I'm on the tablets. Slight progress so far. I use daktocort cream daily too. I've bought antifungal spray for my shoes and washed all my trainers, slippers etc. on a hot wash. Fresh cotton socks every day and as soon as it's warm enough, I will live in flip flops. It's so annoying. I want it to go before the summer.

newtb · 02/04/2023 20:51

I've seen turmeric mentioned online. Had oral treatment for 6 months, but my liver started to protest.

Spareincoming · 02/04/2023 20:54

Vicks vapour rub twice daily; I suffered for 8 years and by the time I decided enough was enough, 8 toes were affected. The Vicks took about 2 and a half years but it has worked. This year I will be wearing flip flops!

Nitebook · 02/04/2023 20:57

I've tried "everything" and whilst it wasn't a complete cure, Vicks Vapo rub was the most effective. They 're smooth again with just some yellowing at the edges.

Isn't nail removal an incredibly painful operation? Shock

WishingMyLifeAway · 02/04/2023 20:57

Salzburggirl · 17/02/2023 17:11

Well mine fell off after swimming in a radioactive lake in Hungary for 3 hours. The 2 fungal nails just peeled clean off when I was relaxing in a bath the next day.....

And I'd had them for years and tried everything.

So many questions.....

Pootle40 · 02/04/2023 21:03

S it perhaps nail psoriasis?

No , no pain at all. Weird!
the spray is called clinisept. No idea if it will work, but I have normal looking feet now .

stillherenow · 02/04/2023 21:41

I tried Vicks it didn’t do anything long term although helped a little while I was using it

Lilylovetulips · 02/04/2023 21:49

Having had a toenail removed a few years back I can say it's very painful, took ages to heal aswell. Couldn't wear anything but sandals for months.

Now needing my other big toenail removed due to severe fungal nail infection, the nail is not attached properly either. Absolutely dreading it. Tried everything under the sun with no success unfortunately.

i used this and it worked, it is natural ingredients (mostly tea tree) pinned it on for a good few weeks and it cleared up. hasn't come back either.

Hi
I have this and have been filing and applying totally irregularly for a few months now.
Instructions say to wash off afterwards- why is this? Can't I just apply and let it dry off or pop socks over the top?
I'm too busy/lazy/badly organised to apply and wash off before I need to rush out the house!

Yes! I rubbed coconut oil into my nails morning & night for roughly six weeks and my infection went away. Months on, it hasn’t returned.

Did it solve the problem though?

stillherenow · 03/04/2023 07:18

@Lilylovetulips mine just felt like someone cutting my nails, so it might be ok? Might depend on the nail. I’m a wimp too so it really didn’t hurt not just me being tough! It was my big toe nail as well. Mine was in a really bad way.
