Constipation. In bathroom in tears need desperate help

I'm week post partum and I'm so so constipated. Tmi but I've put a finger up and can feel a huge rock hard poo it's right there but won't come out. I've tried breaking it up or fishing it out and I can't it's too solid. I'm in tears. I've done a glycerol suppository and it made for a few wet farts but the mass is still there and will not come out. I've got family here for the night and I've been upstairs for over an hour trying to deal with this and I'm just in tears and don't know what to do I feel so desperate. I've even tried squatting in the shower over a nappy to see if it would come out easier but no. I'm sitting with my knees on a stool, how the hell do I get this poo out Sad

Thank god it’s out.
I had the same experience a few days after giving birth. My health visitor gave me a laxative in pessary form that eventually shifted it. But it was awful so you have my full sympathy.

I had that problem after industrial doses of codeine. It lodged part-way out. Ended up getting an old teaspoon and easing it out with the handle. Grim.

It's done. I can't quite believe the size of what came out of me. And I never want to talk about how I got them out. Thank god I'm done having kids, that was actually worse than childbirth.

Thank you MNetters. Shudder Sad

Like others, it was the codeine that caused it for me. I hate to say this but you might not be out of the woods. Mine came back after the first rock of Gibraltar came out. Do go and get some lactulose. It actually tastes rather nice Blush

Place a few kitchen towels on the floor. Or use a bathroom towel.

Carefully lie down flat, raise your knees using your hands to lift, or use a rolled long towel under your knees to lift them up (dont try raising them just using abdominal muscles). Keep your knees apart. Poo may happen.

Otherwise, an enema.

Please use your phone to tell your H or DP that you need urgent help. He needs to attend to you. You may even need to go to an urgent care centre or get an enema for you from there.

This is why visitors in the week after birth are a complete and utter nuisance.

Too late!

Congratulations on your baby brick.

Such a horrible experience Sad

Press hard/massage either side of your anus whilst squating on the loo and rock vigorously, gets my most stubborn poo's out.

How's the front porch?

I've seen tips to put fingers in the vagina and move the mass down that way, but one week post partum, that might not be an option.

Every sympathy though, with my third, I swear the first poo took more effort than the birth. I nearly wrapped it in a blanket and posed for a photo!

🤣

Well done op, on both your deliveries! Rest up well now.

I well remember the panic and sweaty mess I was in a similar situation. And the panic just made everything worse!

I have to say Mumsnet is truly at its best when it comes to constipation relief!
