Constipation. In bathroom in tears need desperate help

I'm week post partum and I'm so so constipated. Tmi but I've put a finger up and can feel a huge rock hard poo it's right there but won't come out. I've tried breaking it up or fishing it out and I can't it's too solid. I'm in tears. I've done a glycerol suppository and it made for a few wet farts but the mass is still there and will not come out. I've got family here for the night and I've been upstairs for over an hour trying to deal with this and I'm just in tears and don't know what to do I feel so desperate. I've even tried squatting in the shower over a nappy to see if it would come out easier but no. I'm sitting with my knees on a stool, how the hell do I get this poo out Sad

Get someone to go out and get you some lactoulose. I took it Pp and didn't go to the toilet until it was literally coming out- had a section so was petrified!

Sierra1961 · 11/02/2023 17:20

I can sooo relate, this was me last month! I had a C-section and it was incredibly painful to push as it was hurting my tummy muscles which were already killing AND my bladder felt horribly bruised from the catheter, so every time I tried to squeeze I was feeling pain in my fairy too. It was horrible!

I feel so sorry for you. I took Dulcolax, ate lots of fibre and drank a lot of water. Try rubbing your lower back and rubbing around your belly button in a circular motion, search for constipation relieving massage. I hope you go soon love!!

Theeaglesoared · 11/02/2023 17:20

I had the same problem post partum 30 years ago. I still remember it. I ended up gouging the mass out bit by bit, having softened with glycerine suppositories first. It was quite traumatising! Best of luck OP.

GallantGus · 11/02/2023 17:22

I’ve been there after my second. It’s horrendous.

Yes yes yes to lactulose and also get some really cheap made from concentrate fresh orange juice and drink as much as you can with a vitamin C tablet. Good luck.

constipatedcrying · 11/02/2023 17:23

It's done. I can't quite believe the size of what came out of me. And I never want to talk about how I got them out. Thank god I'm done having kids, that was actually worse than childbirth.

Thank you MNetters. Shudder Sad

I had terrible constipation when pregnant. It took an hour for me to poo one night as it was just stuck half in half out. Worst night ever.
What worked was getting in a warm bath. Squatting in the bath and kind of pushing and then clenching which drew water up into my bum and softened the poo. Eventually after about 10 minutes it started moving and I managed to get it out in the bath.

YoBeaches · 11/02/2023 17:27

Well done OP. I find beetroot juice gives me a good clear out now and again and helps prevent constipation.

Aldisfinest · 11/02/2023 17:29

Glad you're feeling some relief now OP. Take care of yourself and lots of fibre

Cassy92 · 11/02/2023 17:29

Well done OP! Needs must and we've all been there. It's part of the secret underworld of pregnancy related issues that never gets talked about 😅go have a G&T if you can!

LulooLemon · 11/02/2023 17:29

Brilliant news OP. Now stock up on kiwis/prune juice/lactulose so it doesn't happen again .

LightSpeeds · 11/02/2023 17:29

Thank goodness for that - what a huge relief (both literally and metaphorically).

Have been there myself and was on the loo for a whopping 8 hours (and felt quite unwell afterwards). 😩💩

You may need a long rest now...

Southstand · 11/02/2023 17:31

Congratulations on the new arrival OP.

(And congrats on the new baby too)

Southstand · 11/02/2023 17:32

(I was the same way after surgery many years ago - they never warn you. I can remember the agony and the panic)

dew141 · 11/02/2023 17:33

If it makes you feel a bit better, my friend did a rather large poo in her future in-law's loo.

It wouldn't flush no matter what she did. Her boyfriend had to go through the lounge (where everyone was sitting) with a wire coat hanger, cut it up so it would flush away and then walk back through the lounge with the now slightly shitty coat hanger.

knobblyribs · 11/02/2023 17:33

Bobby Brown once had to pull a shit out of Whitney Houston's arse because it was like a boulder. There's some trivia for ye.

Glad you've resolved the matter! You pour soul!

TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish · 11/02/2023 17:36

god that brings back memories.... dh had to get the emergency Dr out after dc1 as I was in so much pain he was sure I was dying. (in the olden days when Drs came out of hours and before 111 existed!)

Glad you succeeded OP 👍

MavisFlump · 11/02/2023 17:37

Eating liquorice is good for constipation too.
I truly commiserate OP, I was on high doses of opiates after smashing my ankle, the constipation was almost worse.
keep drinking at least 3 litres fluid/day.

tribpot · 11/02/2023 17:42

Well done, OP - no-one may know in real life but you have been awarded a medal on MN today 🏅

ZforZebra · 11/02/2023 17:45

Milk of Magnesia!

User837463839 · 11/02/2023 17:45

Glad you’re sorted OP it’s bloody awful. I would very strongly advise you buy some Movicol over the counter asap and take at least 1 sachet a day, if not 2. Also drink a couple of litres of water a day. Be careful with loads of fibre it can send you the other way.

whattodo22222 · 11/02/2023 17:47

I had lactulose after my C section, it's safe to take when breastfeeding if that's an issue and you can get it over the counter. It's so horrible isn't it :(

dew141 · 11/02/2023 17:47

I didn't do a poo for nearly a week after my hip surgery. I was desperate to go home on the fourth day but the ward manager was insistent I couldn't be discharged without doing one first. He went off to get something he described as Nurse Ivy's Magic Potion.

Thankfully, I managed to persuade the consultant to let me go in the meantime before Ivy's special juice arrived. It didn't sound a good option.

AlienSupaStar · 11/02/2023 17:49

The relief I felt when I read your post that it was done 🥲🥲🥲. Well done and congratulations.

Ihaveaquestionn · 11/02/2023 17:49

Ugh this is how I ended up with a rectocele! Worst poo of my life

mistermagpie · 11/02/2023 17:50

Thank goodness you're sorted, it's awful.

For anyone with this as a 'regular' issue, I can massively recommend magnesium tablets. Has to be magnesium citrate (I get them off Amazon). I take two a day and they have literally cured my lifelong constipation
