Is this worth a call to doctors

Ds18 has been in bed since last Wednesday. He's complaining of a banging headache, body aches, no energy, really bad sore throat and now green diarrhoea. He's also had 2 slices of toast in 6 days.

Just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong with him and is it worth a call to the doctors?

I think I would call 111 for advice to be on the safe side

Yes thank you. I never thought to call 111

Yes call as soon as surgery opens

The docs tend to do phone consultations in the first instance so your doctor can call you back later today to advise

SouperNoodle · 07/02/2023 07:35

Yes it's definitely worth a call to the doctors 😳

dakel · 07/02/2023 09:05

Thanks all. Waiting for a call back from the gp

How is your DS doing?

How is your DS doing?

The doctor called him said it sounds like flu and can last up to 2 weeks. Said if he starts to feel worse then they will happily see him. Just to keep taking paracetamol and having fluid.

Starts to feel worse? He's been in bed for a week and not eaten how much worse do they want him to be.

Does he have a temp? Check it and ring 111 for a face to face . If hes been unwell in bed for a week then he definitely needs an examination.

Surely green diarrhoea would suggest a specimen needs taking to check for a bacterial infection.

I don't want to alarm you but these phone consults and guessing it's 'probably flu' just aren't good enough, he sounds very unwell. Good luck.

catchingzzzeds · 07/02/2023 18:51

Thank you for the update, your poor DS. I hope he starts to feel better very soon. If there's no change for the better tomorrow I think I'd call again

BadClown · 07/02/2023 18:57

We had this last week. All of us got ill with coughs/headaches/sore throats. DS also had a bad temp and a leaking ear. Went to doctors with him and doctor said it was most likely viral because there were so many symptoms, where an infection is more specific to one body part. We all had green poo for days. I googled and it said it was caused by eating too much spinach? Definitely not! We are much better now but it took a couple of weeks

dakel · 07/02/2023 18:59

I've just taken his temp its 36.5 so normal. He's managed to eat a yoghurt, says he feels better than he did this morning but still absolutely rubbish.

I will see how he is in the morning.
Hopefully he's gotten over the worse of it.

Thanks all

I had exactly this a month ago including the diarrhoea despite not eating anything for 4 days. I was totally bed bound, it was horrendous. I have only started to feel better on the last few days so don't be surprised if it drags on a bit. Doc said it was flu.

Mindymomo · 07/02/2023 19:02

Have you checked his throat to see if there are any white nodules on his tonsils at back of throat, if he does he probably has tonsillitis and will need antibiotics.

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 07/02/2023 19:11

Keep a close eye on him and make sure he’s taking plenty fluids and passing urine etc. he sounds really unwell so I’d have a low threshold for getting back in touch with the doc if he doesn’t pick up soon.

ABitOdd · 07/02/2023 19:20

Have you done a Covid test we all have Covid at the moment my son had the same symptoms

dakel · 07/02/2023 21:03

I've checked his throat and can't see anything, he had his tonsils out when he was little.

Yes did a covid test yesterday and was negative.

He's drinking plenty of fluids and peeing often.
He was coughing an hour or so ago and saw some blood in the phlegm/saliva he spat out, not much only a small trace. Think another to the gp tomorrow is needed

Well he's been seen by a doctor today. The doctor said it's septic tonsillitis but to late for antibiotics because he's been like it a week antibiotics need to be given in the first 3 days!

Mindymomo · 08/02/2023 14:44

Good, glad you got him checked out. At least you know why he’s been feeling so rough.

Antibiotics work whenever they are given. The fact he has been so ill and it's a week later surely suggests he needs them.

I hate to sound like a scaremonger but do take him back if no improvement. 'Septic' I mean what is he on about, if it was sepsis he'd be in hospital. No thanks to them that he isnt as no one checked him in the first place.

I'm all for phone consults for a 2 day cold and a 'see how he goes' but as he was displaying such clear signs of significant illness he really should have been examined when you first contacted them.

Hope he is feeling better, if he isn't go back Thurs.

SouperNoodle · 08/02/2023 15:20

Antibiotics work at any time. Did she get her medical degree online?? 🤦‍♀️ please ask for a different gp or take him to a walk in centre.
Septic tonsillitis is nasty and he needs something for it.

dakel · 08/02/2023 15:36

I thought the exact same thing when he told me. What a load crap!
She's given him something to gargle with to see if it helps.

Will def be calling back if he is no better Thursday/Friday morning

Can’t believe she didn’t give antibiotics .

Lolacat1234 · 11/02/2023 13:59

How is your son now? I've had exactly the same this week, temperature for one day on Tuesday and body aches, chills, nausea, upset tummy and very dry cough. I can't see anything on my tonsils though so I was thinking flu!

He's much better than he was but still not 100%. He's still not eaten really, he says he can't because his throat is still really sore.

I didn't see anything on his throat when I looked but the doctor said she saw something.
Hope you feel better soon
