How do you get children to school etc if you are ill?

Not sure what to do. Have been in bed most of weekend with severe chest infection, temp, dizzy etc. though on power antib's now so is improving!

Ds1 also has bad cough and not very good form, but I think well enough for school. I would want to take him to the doctor if not, but actually I do not feel well enough to drive, to school or doctor.

I haven't any friends I can ask and mum is at work today having spent weekend looking after us all, basically.

Not sure what to do.

FA - re: the 10 days sick. This term is always the hardest in terms of bugs, sickness etc. Roll on summer...

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 04/02/2008 16:16

Blimey, I couldn't send my 4yo on his own in a taxi. He'd cry his eyes out.

fryalot · 04/02/2008 16:17

There's absolutely no way you could send a 4 year old on his own with a stranger in a taxi. And in order for FA to go with him, she would still have to a) get dressed and b) pay for the taxi.

I really think she did the right thing. Am not just saying that because I heart her, I really do think she did the most sensible thing.

After Xenia's post I am now consumed with guilt that I failed to get up and take my dd to school the morning after having my appendix out. Dh had to do it.

Hope you feel better soon, FA.

fryalot · 04/02/2008 16:26

pah! sue! you laaaaazy, laaaaaazy fecker

suedonim · 04/02/2008 16:38

Hehe Squonk, I don't care, I'm over the guilt now!

Judy1234 · 04/02/2008 17:31

I just said I was lucky I'd never been properly ill like that. I didn't say other people aren't.

In fact when I was in the car just now there was a nutrition programme on R4 and one item was that in many years in Africa the doctor had only had one gall operation I think it was very few appendices, virtually no cancer and masses in the US simply because we each such a dreadful processed diet here.

Flllightattendant · 04/02/2008 17:45

...Ok I think I have to come back cos the link Squuonky did me will be purple now so you'll know I saw it anyway

Bloody hell that was a good humoured response to a flounce!

Ds definitely has too many sausage rolls.
Really Xenia I am interested in that. I think it's time to actually go back and revisit my wholefood days. Thanks for the kick

You lot...have some ferrero rocher. I think Morrisons went to my head...consider me back...

arghhhhhhhh
Best mates then Squ?

respect RubyRioja!!

I don't think anyone suggested anyone should put a 4 year old in a taxi alone did they?

Someone suggested going in the taxi with them but it all costs £££s doesn't it?!!

I live in Africa and the reason people don't get cancer much is because they are usually dead of other causes by the age that cancer generally strikes. Average life expectancy here is just 51yo and it's much lower in other areas of Africa.

I'm sure a decent diet helps healthwise but I wouldn't set much store by figures for gall bladder ops etc. The vast majority of the population has no access to that sort of health care while those who can afford it go to Europe or the US for treatment. And locals suffer plenty of other terrible diseases instead, it's awful what one sees every single day, hideous.

posieflump · 05/02/2008 12:06

Just wondered how you are feeling today FA?

bozza · 05/02/2008 12:58

I suppose it is all irrelevent and hypothetical now, but I made the point re going in the taxi because fa wasn't up to driving. I have such a bad headache (inc blurred vision) now that I am not up to driving, but am hoping it will go before I need to leave work as I will have to pick the DC up and DH is hundreds of miles away. Might go and sit in the toilets for a bit

posieflump · 05/02/2008 13:00

did suedomim post on the wrong thread?

suedonim · 05/02/2008 13:11

Nah, just replying to Zenia's 17.31 post yesterday.

posieflump · 05/02/2008 13:12

ah yes I see it now

sorry I spelt your name wrong!!

Flllightattendant · 05/02/2008 15:00

Aw thanks Posie
Bit better though rather manic, trying to catch up with everything from last week!
By the way I am a long time flumps fan, if that helps cement our friendship at all I especially liked Pootle...my first TV crush actually.

Hope you feel better soon Bozza, that sounds horrid. Can someone help you out at all?

(more apologies for my awful oversensitivity yesterday! I was more worried by Xenia and MP tbh, still not sure what they were on about but won;t worry about it!)

Well you know that xenia always has her own take on things. I actually find her very interesting, but might not if she was applied to my own circumstances.

I am actually feeling much better, so hopefully should be in the clear by 4.45. I don't think looking at the screen helps but at least with MN I don't need to concentrate (as my general posts will suggest) like I would if I was actually doing my work.

Flllightattendant · 05/02/2008 15:07

Yes Boz, I'm getting the hang of her slowly - never really encountered before! Poor head

Squonk, you...you impetuous Squonk, you!

he's ok. Not my fave, but enjoyable enough. You feeling better today then?

Flllightattendant · 05/02/2008 17:06

I was just reading your profile in a casual, stalkerish way and saw some stuff I could relate to. I have an embarrassing liking for him. Plus I can play them on the geetarr which helps. (nobody knows, though, so keep it to yourself Ok?)

I like Pootle the best too but sadly Pootle had already been taken!!
