I phoned the GP but no appointments left,
Did an online consultation to 111 and it came back as see a gp.
And now it's the bloody weekend.

Any nurses about? Can this wait or does he need to see someone ASAP?

I'd say so, yes

C1N1C · 30/12/2022 23:08

How did it happen? If it is a physical injury, no, antibiotics won't do anything. If it's a bite or you broke the skin (stepped on a nail etc), then yes, probably.

MrsMorton · 30/12/2022 23:10

Yes.

Arsenalfan06 · 30/12/2022 23:11

It's from cutting/picking his nail to short

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2022 23:11

Arsenalfan06 · 30/12/2022 23:13

How often,twice a day?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2022 23:17

I'd soak it again now ,cover it with savlon and keep

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2022 23:17

** it covered over night and see how it is in the morning then ring 111 or go to urgent care.

kissmelittleass · 31/12/2022 00:08

It does look very sore I would definitely get it seen to asap
Just be aware of any red streaks coming from the site and spreading as my brother had this on his finger and it was sepsis..don't want to scare you I just want you to be aware

urrrgh46 · 31/12/2022 00:09

Yes - the infection appears to be tracking up the toe. I say this is now an urgent case. If you can't get an emergency appointment with an ooh GP tomorrow then it needs to be urgent care centre or worst case A&e if you don't have the other options available to you. But it needs medical attention tomorrow imo. If he gets a fever then straight to a&e.

Spaghetti201 · 31/12/2022 00:16

I would go to A&E, that looks like it could VERY quickly escalate.

Rainraingoaway21 · 31/12/2022 00:26

My DS done this and Dr prescribed antibiotics from seeing the photo. My Ds's didn't look as red as that either. I think it needs looking at ASAP.

LulooLemon · 31/12/2022 00:34

Looks sore. I would seek medical opinion in person, either out of hours GP or A & E

Daisy95 · 31/12/2022 00:34

Hcp here, draw a line where the redness ends. It definitely looks like it's tracking. Do they have a temp?
I needs seeing too asap.

mamakoukla · 31/12/2022 00:36

I’d get it seen to asap. In the meantime, is the redness spreading? If unsure, use a pen to outline the margin on the skin and monitor over time.

JuneOsborne · 31/12/2022 00:36

Geez, I'm not sure that can wait.

You need a doctor's opinion, not ours.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 31/12/2022 00:42

Please do not go to A&E without first taking a temperature.

If there is no temperature he is fine to wait until you can get to a walk in centre tomorrow.

If he does have a temperature above 38 then do take him to A&E .

limitededitionbarbie · 31/12/2022 00:49

I cut my nails down too short on two toes.

Last year. Painful as fuck.

I had my foot in dettol or salt water for about a week. After a week I went the walk in but they were not infected. Didn't get anti biotics. Just told to carry on with the salt water.

My toes looked like that. The nurse advised to keep an eye out for red lines going up my foot.

How long has it been like that? Worth getting the walk in to check it out

Potato28 · 31/12/2022 00:54

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls

VERY Dangerous advice.
Not having a temperature does not mean that he wont get very ill over night!
irresponsible of you to reply saying ‘No temperature, his fine’
When that kind of ‘statement’ can make someone very very ill

Arsenalfan06 · 31/12/2022 00:59

I've called 111 again, waiting for a call back.
Up to 12 hours wait.
Line drawn.
Thanks for the advice.

Good luck OP.

parsniiips · 31/12/2022 01:04

It could move very quickly if it is infected, it's only a small toe but it's definitely worth having it looked at. Hope the wait isn't too long!
