I phoned the GP but no appointments left,
Did an online consultation to 111 and it came back as see a gp.
And now it's the bloody weekend.

Any nurses about? Can this wait or does he need to see someone ASAP?

Please do not go to A&E without first taking a temperature.

If there is no temperature he is fine to wait until you can get to a walk in centre tomorrow.

If he does have a temperature above 38 then do take him to A&E .

Ignore this.

A temperature is not always present with an infection.

Best thing is to watch the redness carefully. If it stays the same then don't worry too much and wait it out. If it travels further up your foot then keep calling and try to bump yourself forward.

Pack a little emergency bag just in case. Battery pack, phone lead etc. My son said he felt sick two days ago then his lips turned blue, I thought I was going to need to do a emergency dash. My phone was practically flat. I hope it turns out to be nothing. I had a manky toe and I left it a bit to long before getting help. It took a while to clear up

familyissues12345 · 31/12/2022 01:11

Wowsers that looks sore Sad, nothing more to add but I'd be getting that checked ASAP

emilyelf · 31/12/2022 01:18

Oh wow that doesn't look good op. These types of things always get serious when it's the weekend and after midnight when you're left with no choice but to wait till the morning but in the meantime, wtf do you do and hope for the best. I'm sure your keeping an eye on it and have drawn the lines but any progress in the area expanding take him to the a&e if it's still out of hours.

classicaltwist · 31/12/2022 01:19

get an appointment asap. Last thing you want is the infection turning into sepsis x

allthelittlelights · 31/12/2022 01:20

That is infected. I can see there are lines tracking up the foot, so it needs urgent care.

nocoolnamesleft · 31/12/2022 01:20

Looks like it's tracking. I think the question isn't so much whether it needs antibiotics, as whether oral antibiotics are going to be enough.

Floralnomad · 31/12/2022 01:23

That looks nasty , ring and see what the wait time is at A & E , it will likely be quicker than waiting for a call back .

SocialLite · 31/12/2022 01:24

I think it's even worse than the line you've drawn. To be it looks like it's tracking further down the foot, it won't let me attach a screenshot though

I agree. I think this might need IV antibiotics. If it doesn't now, if left untreated it soon will.

Arsenalfan06 · 31/12/2022 01:27

I can see the thin red line if that's what you mean.
I've had a call back, the nurse requested a picture. He is currently reviewing it and will call me back.

I would assume that’s cellulitis cooking up.

CockSpadget · 31/12/2022 02:02

It’s definitely tracking, see the red line on the middle of his foot. Needs antibiotics asap.

Arsenalfan06 · 31/12/2022 02:06

Super impressed with 111.
They have sent a prescription to my nearest pharmacy that has the antibiotics in stock.
They open at 7.30 in the morning, so will set my alarm to go and collect them

That's good OP. Hope it clears up quickly.

Helpwithaparcel · 31/12/2022 11:35

I would say yes (pharmacist)

maeveiscurious · 31/12/2022 12:06

Have you considered using a hot poultice? Have a look in google about it pulling out the infection. This was all that was available pre antibiotic

mackthepony · 03/01/2023 23:46

How's he doing, @Arsenalfan06 ?

Arsenalfan06 · 06/01/2023 20:58

He is on his last day of antibiotics, this is his toe now.
Looks awful

Morechocmorechoc · 06/01/2023 21:02

That looks so much better. Infection from down the toe gone. Just looks like fresh pink skin at the top now. Good. Make sure no more picking!

CrotchetyQuaver · 06/01/2023 21:13

What might be helpful for you to know going forward is that when my DD had bad infected (ingrown) toenails the consultant prescribed what he called Willy cream but is more generally known as chloramphenicol cream which I believe is still available OTC.

The a/b tablets never quite got on top of the infection. It also helped the bad toes dry out and be less sore when I got my DD to take off her shoes and socks as soon as she got home from school and wear open toe sandals/flip flops so the air could get to her feet. She has always had very sweaty feet.
