Dedicated Swallower of Passion (Fruit) - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

And, I've been wondering - I've been thinking of the 10/10 thread as the official home of the lentil-weavers. Am I wrong?

ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:32

Porridge is my breakfast of choice OR, but I often miss breakfast, even though I don't mean to. Sometimes I just have some fruit or a yoghurt and quite a lot of coffee.

I think it might be the unofficial home of lentil weavers. But I'm not sure, I'm not really sure what a lentil weaver is actually. I don't think I am one, but am tolerated.

Franny you made me LOLOL at being made cross by the boy struggling with the limited means of the art teacher. Ha ha ha. Was very funny. You sound like you got a great haul.

I have been up since 6.00. I am NEVER up at 6.00, now all my dc sleep sensibly or if they don't get up without waking me up too. DS1 was picked up at 6.40 for a day of Chess. The mother who picked him up said 'won't he need a coat?' and I said 'No, he will leave it in Devon and he doesn't feel the cold' and then DS1 did that eye rolling thing, that has become ever common of late, and said 'What she is trying to say is that we will be indoors most of the time, and I don't need it' and then I laughed and he laughed and the mother said 'Do you know you have a poo on your hall floor?'

So that's my morning so far.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:35

Hello OR, I have been hoping to see you. Folk festival sounds marvellous Ds is crazy for a violin but it would sound so ruddy terrible, wouldn't it? We have fobbed him off so far

I eat just plain oats with dried fruit, fresh fruit and seeds added, I should add nuts but don't really like them. You can make a nice muesli mix if you can get hold of things like rice flakes, quinoa flakes, barley flakes etc. Or I have a baked muesli recipe which is easy, and good for children to join in with stirring. I'll dig it out.

Erm I think we are probably the UNOFFICIAL home of the lentil weavers. With a healthy proportion of brie and coffee eaters to stop us drifting off to mung bean land altogether.

LOL very slow cross posts with 100. At least we agree on our unofficial status.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:38

Yes, we are officially unofficial.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:42

so who did the poo? was it JJ? is he going out today?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:43

DD has wanted to learn the violin for ages. And now she is. It is quite excruciating, but is a sweet, diddy little violin and MY GOD she does practice it, which is more than can be said for other great instrument taker upppers I have known, so strangely feel happy to tolerate the squeaking for that reason alone.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:43

Muesli recipe:

3 cups oats
1 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup linseed
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
4 tbsp ground almonds
1 tbsp barley malt
1 tbsp molasses (dissolve this and the barley malt in a little hot water otherwise it is too sticky)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups raisins
Half cup dessicated coconut

Combine barley malt, molasses, oil, vanilla and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix all else except raisins and coconut in another bowl. Mix wet with dry. Stir well until all coated. Spread onto 2 baking trays and bake at 180 / gm 4 for 20 mins, stirring after 10 mins.
Add raisins and coconut and allow to cool. Place in airtight tin or jar in the fridge. Serve with milk as usual.

we need a new title tomorrow
are we doing more kinks or something else? something else suggestive for valentine's day?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:45

Yes, it was JJ. Thank goodness.

He went for his first legal walk yesterday. DH and I went for a walk on Wednesday and we took him illegally.

I took him to the park yesterday. He was in turn excited, overwhelmed (large bush), then frightened (we got barked at by a labrapoodle), charming (lay on ground for OAP to admire his tummy), excited (waving branch of a tree) and then finally tired.

Was exhausting run of emotions.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:45

ds has just asked me:

"How can anyone own Boogie Wonderland?"

and

"Can we make sock manure?"

I wish dp would hurry up and take him out to the swimming pool

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:46

I liked the Kinks one.

What are you doing today Franny?

ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:46

LOL. I hope you answered in the affirmative to the sock manure.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:46

at illegal walk
so if everyone West of here comes down with foot and mouth or something, it is the fault of Johnnny Jet?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:47

I don't know. I feel almost perky so I was slightly considering going to the gym. This would be embarrassing as I have not been for so ruddy long and will have to explain about feeling queasy and lying down and getting enormous and stuff.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:49

Oh yes or bird flu or Norovirus, or anything you like.

No, I think it is that HE would go down with some hideous disease caught from other dogs. He's had all his shots, someone told me there was a 1% chance of him catching anything, and you were just as likely to bring it in on your shoe.

Besides DH and I felt ridiculous going to climb a hill while he lay about on the sofa staring out the window. So he came too.

ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:50

Go for a swim.

I love swimming.

I am thinking of going on a freshwater swimming weekend in the Lake District. I have a cutting.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:52

oh hooray for him being allowed out

I loathe and despise swimming. The boys love it.

ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 08:56

Well I am enjoying chewing the fat with you this morning.

Did I ever tell you about SIL visit over NY? Oh it was nice because I said 'aren't you great to be still bf X, isn't that great, it must be so nice for both of you' and she almost cried. So I was very good person at having learnt things off MN. I think I should have a Good Learner or Great Effort or Hey, Well Done sticker please.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 08:57

bloody HELL that was probably a HUGE thing for her
no-one ever says it you know, you just get looks and things at best and at worst people can really be upsetting...
you can have a "I was kind to my SIL" sticker if I can find one

ds is now showing me where Sweden is on an apple

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 09:00

here you go, this is the best I could do

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 09:03

Thank you. I shall wear with pride.

Fast forward 3 years and I'll have another one for the conversation that goes 'No, I think you're absolutely right to HE X. It'll be great, and he can pursue his own interests and not be beaten down by the pernicious school system.' That one had better be a badge not a sticker, and there will be much throat-clearing from me.

Though actually you are right, it was a big thing for her. And she's still not very happy at all, and she said 'the thing is, I'm not very happy but this is the ONE THING that feels right, but it's the thing everyone criticizes' so that was good because then we got to talk over other stuff.

Right. I am going to rouse the sleeping puppy and see if he'll be persuaded to walk up the road and buy a paper with me.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 09:06

Haw haw, I will make you a sash and tiara if you manage that one

bear in mind you can always keep a few handy phrases up your sleeve such as "well as you know it is not what I would choose to do, but I know you only want what you think is best for dc and I respect your right to do blah blah blah"

then skip home thinking "she is loon but I am Kind SIL"

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 09:14

It has just occurred to me that I am supposed to let a sleeping dog lie, no?

I might ring her up this morning and say it, just for the tiara and the sash. And you know I absolutely WOULD do it if I ever thought it was necessary or anyone was miserable or not getting on at school or whatever. Life is too short.

I just wish SIL was happier. But that's not my business and at least I have learnt what are the proper and supportive things to say.

ahundredtimes · 10/02/2008 09:17

But LOL, imagine the eye-rolling I'd get as I said 'Right now ds1 we're going to go for a walk today and we can think about tributaries and the water cycle if we want to' and he'd roll his eyes and say 'Okay mother.'
